Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 469: She Only Has Eyes for Quentin Blackwood

  • Next Chapter

"He’s rushing back?" Ivy Sherwood knew that if Quentin Blackwood found out something had happened to her, he would rush back immediately.

But it wasn’t necessary. ’I’m not some fragile porcelain doll, and it’s not like I can’t live without Quentin.’

Quentin rushing back would actually just put more pressure on her.

Still, all those calls from him meant he was definitely worried.

Beside her, Elijah Hawthorne said icily, "You’re pregnant, yet he left you here to get into trouble. If a man can’t even protect the woman he loves, what’s the point of keeping him? You might as well break up."

Ivy Sherwood looked up, her eyes wide with surprise. "You know I’m pregnant?"

"The doctor insisted on telling me."

It wasn’t like he’d gone around prying into her private affairs.

But Ivy Sherwood just smiled. "But no one can be by my side every second of the day. He’s already doing a great job, all things considered. He has his own life, and his world shouldn’t revolve around me."

"Besides, he should be at work. There are people at the company who need him more than I do. Their livelihoods depend on that work. I shouldn’t be taking up his time."

Elijah Hawthorne hadn’t expected her to think that way. A small smile played on his lips. "You’re unbelievable."

"You are too," Ivy retorted, then immediately caught herself. "I don’t mean you’re unbelievable in a bad way. I mean, your company has a lot of people who need you too. You and Quentin are both exceptional people. You should be at work, not wasting your time on me."

Ivy had a clear-headed perspective on things. Any other woman would have been dying to announce to the world that she had two powerful men wrapped around her finger.

But Ivy was discreet. Even being with Quentin, she never once showed off or acted ostentatiously.

Ivy said, "Mr. Hawthorne, you should get back to your work. I’m fine now, and I’ll be able to leave the hospital soon."

"I don’t have much to do in Lustre. Just consider me a tourist."

"Well, I need to investigate something, so I won’t be able to keep you company for a bit."

"Go ahead." Elijah Hawthorne waved his hand.

"Alright."

Ivy got to work. She wanted to look into what had happened with the Blackwood Family, but to her surprise, Zane Linton called her first.

"Miss Sherwood, President Blackwood asked me to contact you. He’s already on his way back."

"I know. Really, I’m fine. He doesn’t need to come back."

Zane Linton said, "You know President Blackwood. Once he’s made a decision, no one can change his mind—except you. Besides, he won’t be able to rest easy until he sees you with his own eyes."

"Before he got on the plane, he also had me look into the Blackwood Family. There’s something I think you should know. Anna Nash’s child... died."

"What?" Ivy was shocked. She never thought the child would be gone. ’Didn’t I just see Silas Blackwood and Anna Nash at the hospital the other day?’

Zane continued, "The child wasn’t Silas Blackwood’s. The entire Blackwood Family knows now, and all hell has broken loose. Silas is trying to divorce Anna, but she’s pregnant again. Caleb Blackwood has her set up in a hotel."

Zane briefly explained the course of events. After all, they had people planted in the Blackwood Family, so it was fair to say the family was under Quentin Blackwood’s surveillance.

Ivy couldn’t believe so much had happened in just a few days.

"Then who’s the father of the child Anna is pregnant with now? Does the Blackwood Family know?"

"Other than Caleb Blackwood, no one else should know."

’That makes sense,’ Ivy thought. ’If Caleb didn’t know, why would he be supporting Anna?’

Ivy immediately guessed that Caleb’s move against her was probably at Anna’s behest.

"I understand. Zane, could you do me a favor and pull the hospital’s surveillance footage? I’ll send you the time and the camera location."

"Of course."

"Thank you."

Zane was incredibly efficient. Soon, the surveillance footage was in Ivy’s hands.

Ivy watched the footage and saw that while she had been talking with Anna, Sylvia Blackwood had been standing not far away. After they left, Sylvia immediately went to find Silas. It looked like she had told him everything.

"I could have helped you with all of this, you know," Elijah Hawthorne remarked from the side.

Ivy gave a light smile. "I wouldn’t want to trouble you."

"You’re willing to ask someone else for help. Why not me?"

’You’re the ’someone else’ here,’ Ivy thought. ’Besides, Zane and I are pretty well acquainted.’

But if she said that out loud, Elijah would definitely not be happy.

Speaking of which, the first time Elijah had rushed into the Blackwood Group to save her, it had also been because of Anna’s schemes. And now, here she was again.

Ivy got out of bed. "Mr. Hawthorne, something’s come up and I need to be discharged. I’ll treat you to dinner next time to properly repay you for this."

"I’ll go with you. You’re going to see Anna Nash, right? What if it’s dangerous for you to go alone?"

Ivy thought for a moment. "You have a point. I’ll wait a little longer then. Quentin should be here soon. I’ll go with him."

With Quentin there, he wouldn’t have to worry so much.

’If I go alone, or with Elijah, that king of jealousy will be furious.’

Elijah Hawthorne: "..."

He shouldn’t have even bothered saying anything. It was clear that Ivy only had eyes for Quentin.

This only made Elijah more curious. He wanted to see for himself just how deep the feelings between Quentin and Ivy really ran.

Ivy didn’t stay idle at the hospital. She called Anna Nash and asked to meet.

Anna already knew her plan had failed, because Caleb Blackwood had been captured by Quentin’s men.

Anna knew Ivy wouldn’t let her off the hook. She wasn’t stupid enough to agree to a meeting.

Ivy said, "If you’re not willing to come, then we’ll see each other at the Blackwood estate."

Anna instantly regretted it. "Ivy, what are you planning? What do you want to talk about? You pick the place. I’ll meet you."

"Too late."

Ivy hung up. After making a few more arrangements, a figure rushed into her hospital room not long after.

The moment Quentin Blackwood saw Ivy, the heart that had been lodged in his throat finally dropped back into place.

He pulled Ivy into a tight embrace, his hand stroking her hair.

"I’m sorry," he said, his voice hoarse.

Ivy blinked. "What are you sorry for? I’m perfectly fine, the doctor said so too. You really didn’t have to rush back."

"I couldn’t rest easy until I saw you." The moment he’d heard Ivy was almost hurt, Quentin had been truly terrified.

Even though it had been a hassle to rush over, Quentin didn’t regret it for a second.

"I was just about to head to the Blackwood estate."

"I’ll go with you."

"Okay," Ivy agreed.

Only then did Ivy realize that at some point, Elijah Hawthorne had quietly slipped away.
