Chapter 293: Chapter 221: Unexpected Harvest: The Transformation School’s Ultimate Answer—All Spirits
Seeing Isaac put the Magic Book away, Fiona let out a long sigh of relief. It was safe.
For a Legendary Mage, one could never have too many good, suitable stories. They were useful at every level, and their effectiveness wasn’t dependent on one’s rank. This prevented the common issue where Magic that was powerful for an Official Wizard would become useless for a High-level Mage or even a Grand Wizard.
So, while Fiona only urgently needed one story for now, these two would be useful once she advanced to Tier Four, significantly reducing the difficulty of her future progress.
After the trade was complete, Fiona didn’t linger in Isaac’s castle. She left immediately. After all, she was a High-level Mage herself—a veteran one, first-class in both seniority and power. Naturally, she had her own Wizard Tower.
In fact, when most High-level Mages collaborated on a research topic, they didn’t gather in one place like Low-tier Mages. Typically, they would work separately and then meet at a predetermined time to exchange their findings.
Or, if one of them achieved a breakthrough, they would gather to synchronize their research progress.
After all, whether an Arcanist or a Legendary Mage, anyone who reached the stage of a High-level Mage was no incompetent fool. They were all juggling multiple research projects—some personal, others for different groups—so they naturally couldn’t be tied to one location.
Isaac understood this, so he didn’t press her to stay.
Of course, and more importantly, he was extremely curious about the *Essentials of Transformation Magic* Fiona had left him. He was already itching to study it and had no desire to make her stay.
With Fiona’s departure, Isaac’s research team was officially formed. But this wasn’t the final step. To truly establish the research group, all members first had to gather in the Sect Dimension and apply for a Mage Tower to serve as their laboratory. Second, Isaac needed to provide a more detailed research direction than what was in the initial proposal.
Then, Isaac would also need to provide the Sect with tasks that Official Wizards and Grand Wizards could undertake, such as collecting materials, gathering data, and performing analyses.
Finally, Isaac needed to provide a sum of funds.
That’s right. As the project initiator, Isaac had to contribute his own money. The funds provided by the Sect were only a partial subsidy. After all, at the High-level Mage stage, no research was easy; every project was a veritable money pit.
This was especially true for research that required the collaboration of several High-level Mages.
This was one reason why research applications from High-level Mages were approved so easily.
Of course, none of this was a major issue for Isaac. He had already made most of the preparations and was just waiting for the others to find a time to travel to the Sect Dimension.
So, after Fiona left, faint spatial fluctuations materialized behind Isaac and swallowed him whole. When he reappeared, he was already inside his Mage Tower.
Inside the Mage Tower, Isaac sat down at a desk and opened Fiona’s Magic Book. A faint light flickered in his eyes as he began to study it rapidly. Before long, aided by his Analysis Authority, Isaac had completely mastered its contents.
Of course, Transformation Magic was different from most other forms of Magic. Simply learning the principles was useless; one also had to engage in a certain degree of Cultivation. Otherwise, you couldn’t use the Magic, no matter how well you understood the theory.
Well, that was Isaac’s previous understanding of Transformation Magic. Now, however, his perspective had changed completely.
He finally understood why the Transformation Stream, a school of magic riddled with flaws, had managed to exist for so long.
In the scientific community of his past life, scholars divided Truth into absolute truth and relative truth. Absolute truth referred to principles that held true under any conditions, while relative truth referred to principles that were only valid under specific, limited conditions.
By definition, an absolute Truth was considered nonexistent; there were only relative truths that infinitely approached it.
And in the current Magic Realm, a similar concept existed.
The difference was that the relative truths of his past life were merely principles, whereas the relative truths of the Magic World possessed immense power.
Take the Alchemy School, for example. It had the conceptual object of the Philosopher’s Stone. Theoretically, the Philosopher’s Stone could be directly transformed into anything in the world. It could grant any wish, a truly all-powerful wish-granting machine!
Naturally, such a thing couldn’t possibly exist.
The Philosopher’s Stone was thus the absolute Truth of the Alchemy School. Consequently, the various sub-disciplines within the Alchemy School each had their own relative truths.
In Magic Potion Science, for instance, there was the concept of the Universal Medicine. Of course, this also didn’t exist. Thus, within different fields of potion-making, subordinate "ultimate answers" emerged—like the Ten Thousand Dragons Potion being researched by Lilith, a High-level Mage from the Flesh Sect specializing in Dragon Blood Potions!
A single potion that could strengthen Sub-Dragons of various Dragon Species, perhaps even allowing them to surpass the very source of their bloodline: a Pure-blooded Giant Dragon!
The schools of Transformation Magic had something similar, but it wasn’t just about completely turning into another creature. That wasn’t worthy of being called an ultimate answer—at least, not yet.
A High-level Mage could already accomplish that, but none of them would be so foolish as to do so.
The ultimate answer pursued by the Transformation School was to cultivate a single transformation capable of turning into any creature in existence!
In other words—All Spirits!
This was the reason for the Transformation School’s existence. It had many flaws, but it also had immense potential!
Never mind if that potential was real or how much of it could be realized. The point was, it had potential!
And that was the meaning of its existence.
Even though the path was difficult and the practitioners weak, the one thing this world never lacked was geniuses. Sooner or later, a genius would walk this path.
For example, Fiona Morgan, the High-level Mage who gave Isaac this Magic Book...
Or, for another...
Isaac Solomon!
Yes, he was now prepared to formally study the magic of the Transformation Style. After finishing the Magic Book, he had habitually used his Golden Finger to check the school’s probability of leading to the ultimate answer of Transformation Magic, and...
He saw a string of zeros!
Yes, not just one zero!
A whole string of them!
Isaac didn’t bother to count how many zeros there were after the decimal point; it didn’t matter. The fact that his Golden Finger reacted this way meant this was the correct path. At the very least, it was a step in the right direction.
For Isaac, that made it worth learning.
A low success rate didn’t matter. He could rely on his Golden Finger’s ability to "find and fix flaws" to slowly perfect the method. If the success rate increased, he knew he was on the right track. If it decreased... well, that would be self-explanatory.
Clicking his tongue, Isaac looked at the Magic Book in his hands. After the initial shock, he shook his head in amazement. ’What an... unexpected windfall.’
He put the Magic Book away, pulled over a sheet of parchment, and began to write and calculate the Magic Model for his first transformation.
Learning Transformation Magic was generally a multi-step process. First, one had to master the foundational magical principles of the Transformation Style. Second, one had to choose a species to transform into and design its corresponding Magic Model. Third, one had to collect the necessary materials, such as a complete corpse of the target species. Only then could one begin the actual Cultivation of the Magic.
Only after completing all these steps could you be considered to have learned Transformation Magic—or rather, a single transformation.
This was why there were so few Wizards in the Transformation School; the demands on both one’s energy and finances made its Cultivation incredibly difficult to sustain.
For Isaac, however, the process was even more complex. He had already completed the first step. But for the second, Isaac needed to think very carefully, because his goal was the ultimate answer of the Transformation Style: All Spirits.
Therefore, he needed to find a base creature capable of integrating and fusing the traits of other beings, using it as a foundation to continuously evolve toward All Spirits.
Of course, Isaac didn’t expect to achieve this in one fell swoop—that was hardly possible. This approach would, however, allow him to accumulate more experience. Besides, the foundation could always be changed later.
And so, as Isaac immersed himself in his new magical research, time slowly slipped by. Soon, the day arrived for Isaac and his team to travel to the Sect Dimension and formally establish their research group.
