Chapter 1607: Sharing interests

"Then are you hoping to be revived?"

Though this wasn’t something that should be asked directly, Lin Fan couldn’t help asking him in the end.

After all, this was something that he had already encountered before.

This was something that he should have already known how to deal with.

It was just that there was this part of him that wanted to ask this.

The elder didn’t seem offended by this, his expression actually soon changed into a smile. It was almost as if he was amused by the question that Lin Fan had just asked.

He didn’t answer right away as he just looked at Lin Fan as if he was considering something.

But eventually he said, "Even if I wanted to, it isn’t something that’s possible. The moment that my soul leaves this token..."

A chill ran down the spines of the three of them when they heard this.

He didn’t actually need to say anything else for them to understand what he was implying with these words. Everything that they had found had already told them all that they needed to know about the fate of the Dao Sect.

So if the elder were to come out of the token alive...

Even the elder was aware of this and it wasn’t as if he was going to seek death because of it. Which was why it was in his best interest to remain in this token that could hide his presence from the upper realm.

So at the very least, it didn’t seem like there was any risk of the elder actually trying to possess one of them and steal their bodies.

Seeing the looks on their faces, the elder’s expression changed back to the same smile as before as he said to Xiao Mu, "Since I’m your uncle, it’s only natural that I would want to help you."

Then afterwards, he added in a softer voice, "If you were to continue my research and let me see what the results were, then I would be even happier."

Hearing this, the three of them seemed a bit more relieved.

They had an idea of what kind of personality this elder who had been a researcher in the past had. Words like these definitely suited his personality more than anything that he had said before.

So this was something that they could trust.

As for how far they could trust him, it wasn’t as if there was anything else that they could do right now. After all, they still needed the authority that he possessed to accomplish what they wanted to accomplish.

In the end, they had to go along with this elder.

It seemed like they were thinking the same thing, so Xiao Mu gave a nod and reached out towards the token.

The elder hadn’t said a single thing as he patiently waited for them to make up their mind. But once Xiao Mu made up its mind, the elder took the initiative to bring the token forward so that it made contact with Xiao Mu’s hand.

The moment that it did, Xiao Mu’s expression changed.

Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan immediately turned on the elder as if they were prepared to fight him to the death.

The elder just raised a hand to stop them before saying, "Just give it a minute, they need time to process all this information."

When Xiao Mu’s expression slowly relaxed, Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan went forward to make sure that Xiao Mu was alright. This time, the elder didn’t stop the two of them from approaching Xiao Mu.

"It’s fine, it was just that information from this lab suddenly filled my mind. I had to take some time to sort it all out."

With Xiao Mu confirming this, the two of them could relax a bit.

Though it seemed like Ye Qing Huan still couldn’t help glaring at the elder as if she was blaming him for not telling them ahead of time. In a way, it was indeed the elder’s fault for not giving them a heads up.

Still, it turned out that the elder had been sincere about passing the token to Xiao Mu.

In that case, that should mean that they had accomplished what they set out to do.

Lin Fan brought his token forward and Xiao Mu knew what he was doing, so Xiao Mu didn’t hesitate to bring the token forward as well. Only before they could touch their tokens together like this, the elder suddenly stopped them.

"Wait, don’t do that. It won’t end well."

The three of them once again glared at the elder when they heard this.

Only the elder didn’t seem bothered at all by them glaring at him like this. He just calmly explained to them, "It’s very simple, it’ll be different because I’m attached to this token. The moment that you do this, there will be a reaction that will reveal me."

Traces of doubt crept onto the faces of the three when they heard this.

It wasn’t as if they wanted to expose the elder to the world since that would draw the attention of something dangerous, but it wasn’t as if they could ignore this either.

"I’ll do it myself." The elder said with a sigh when he saw the looks on their faces.

He already knew that they wouldn’t give up on this, so it was better for him to do it himself rather than letting them create a mess later.

The elder floated over to Lin Fan’s side and waved his hand for Lin Fan to bring the token up. Once the token was brought up, he pointed a finger at it and there was a glow that came out of his hand that went into the token.

This glow spread out across the token before fading away.

However, Lin Fan could tell that there was something new inside of his token.

It was indeed the feeling of receiving authority over this lab.

The only one that didn’t have this feeling was Ye Qing Huan, both Lin Fan and Xiao Mu could freely move around this lab now.

"Why did you use the same password for all of the doors?" That was the one thing that Lin Fan had to ask in the end.

After receiving the authority, he could tell that it was indeed the same password for the first and second floors. It was only the third floor that had generated passwords, but he found that they all followed the same chain.

This was the kind of password that would be set by those that didn’t know proper password security.

An awkward smile appeared on the elder’s face before he said, "We didn’t know how to set it or to change it. This is just how they were when we got them in the first place."

So they had stolen them from the same place and put them in like this.

Perhaps they had developed the ability to change it later once they developed AI, but there were many other things for them to focus on. At the same time, there was that disaster that wiped them out in the end.

When things like this happened, passwords for doors really were the least of their concern.

"Forget about that." The elder suddenly changed the topic, most likely to hide his embarrassment.

"Now that you have access, there’s one thing that I have to know."

The elder suddenly moved forward so that he was in front of Xiao Mu and Lin Fan before saying, "Which experiment do you like the most?"

The expression on his face was as if there was something that had been ignited inside of him. It felt like there was something that was surging from deep down inside of him that was about to burst forward.

It was a bit sweltering that Lin Fan and Xiao Mu couldn’t help taking a step back.

But in the end, Xiao Mu still answered, "It’s all interesting. All of these experiments are things that I’ve never seen before, so I’m interested in how it works."

"Oh is that so?" It seemed like a proper answer, but the look on the elder’s face made it clear that he wasn’t satisfied with this answer. It seemed like there was something else that the elder had been expecting from Xiao Mu.

When he saw this, Lin Fan couldn’t help making a guess.

"Could it be that he’s also into..."

After a momentary pause, Lin Fan said, "The giant robot."

The elder didn’t seem to react at first, but Lin Fan could have sworn that he saw a twitch from him.

"You mean the..."

After the elder said this, it seemed like their eyes filled with light at the same time.

It was as if two people that shared the same passion had suddenly found something that they wanted to share with each other.

It didn’t take long before the elder and Lin Fan started sharing things that they liked with one another.

Though the elder was a bit surprised that Lin Fan knew so much about these things on the third floor, it didn’t seem to matter to him as he was enjoying this talk too much.

For Lin Fan, this was certainly helpful since the elder was telling him all kinds of new information about the things on the third floor that he didn’t know about. These were things that the research lab had found out about these items stored on the third floor after extensive research.

On the side, Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu looked at the two of them with strange looks.

They just couldn’t understand why the two of them were acting this way.
