With My System, I Can Even Tame Gods
Chapter 1606: An uncle all of a sudden
Ye Qing Huan still wasn’t able to understand what the elder meant by this, but Lin Fan was clear.
It was just that he wasn’t certain what the elder meant by this exactly.
The elder turned to look at Lin Fan and it seemed like there was a trace of surprise in his eyes. It seemed like he didn’t expect anyone to understand what he meant when he said this.
After all, it wasn’t as if AI or mechanical beings were things that were common in the cultivation world. Or it was better to say that they were things that shouldn’t have existed in the cultivation world.
At most, there were those puppets that were created by the puppet cultivators, but they weren’t really considered mechanical beings either.
So the elder had been expecting to explain what these things were and then find out the source of Xiao Mu. But now it seemed like there was someone that already knew about these things.
Still, the elder didn’t bother having any suspicion towards Lin Fan since he knew that a long time had passed since the Dao Sect had been in this world. There were all kinds of things that could have happened and someone could have discovered these things.
Since that was the case, the elder continued by saying, "We’ve done experiments with similar beings in the past and we’ve encountered our fair share of incidents in the past, so we’ve set up countermeasures for these things."
"Did you really have to go as far as preparing things to neutralize them as soon as they were found?" Lin Fan narrowed his eyes to look at the elder as he asked this.
But this time, it seemed like the elder was confused by what he said.
"What do you mean by neutralizing them as soon as they were found? The defense system is only set up to fire a warning shot at them, nothing more."
Lin Fan thought about how that was the case for them as well, but he couldn’t help pointing out, "A warning shot? Something like that is enough to take some people’s lives."
"If that was enough, then they shouldn’t have come to this place. It’s not enough to do anything to the ones that we wanted to protect." The elder just acted as if this wasn’t his problem at all.
This attitude was certainly the attitude that one would expect from a bigshot and this elder did qualify for that title.
In the end, the elder did add, "They were valuable to us, so it’s only natural that we would try to harm them as little as possible."
The way that he said this made the two of them a bit annoyed since it was still as if he didn’t sound like he cared about what happened to the ones targeted by the lasers.
But then again, it wasn’t as if it really mattered since the elder had died a long time ago.
Even if there were things that he wanted to do, it wasn’t as if he would be able to do anything now with the state that he was in.
That was the one thing that they could at least take comfort in knowing.
"You look like you’re expecting me to suddenly attack you."
When the elder poked at their weak point like this, the two of them couldn’t help revealing wry smiles once more. It was just that the elder didn’t seem like he wanted to make things difficult for them.
"Don’t worry, I’ll put your friend on the exception list and let them come in here. If I don’t, they won’t be able to come in here and meet me. After all, I’m not able to leave this office because it’s the place that I’m bound to."
"Huh?"
Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan were caught off guard by this sudden confession from the elder. But there was a part of them that couldn’t help feeling a bit comforted because of this confession.
The fact that the elder was willing to say all of this should mean that he held no ill intentions towards them.
It was just that there was a part of them that was very confused why the elder was acting this way. It wasn’t as if there was any special connection between them and this elder.
So the only thing that they could think of was that there was something that the elder wanted from Xiao Mu. Or else the elder wouldn’t have done all of this just to let Xiao Mu enter this place.
When they discussed this with Xiao Mu, it accepted the suggestion of the elder.
It seemed like Xiao Mu wanted to see what the elder was up to.
"If we had to define it, we could say that I’m your uncle. That’s why I wanted to meet you and take a closer look at you."
"Huh?" Even Xiao Mu couldn’t help saying this when it heard what the elder said.
The three of them just looked at the elder as if it was crazy, but the elder just had the same smile on his face as if he wasn’t bothered by any of this.
Once they slowly came back to their senses, that was when Xiao Mu suddenly said, "What do you mean by this? In the first place, it isn’t as if I have any parents."
The elder said with the same smile, "You consider the one that created you as your parent, right? The one that created you was my brother, which is why I would be considered your uncle."
Once again, the three of them were caught off guard when they heard this before they all looked closely at the elder. As they looked closely at the elder, they couldn’t help feeling that there was indeed something familiar about this elder.
It seemed like there were parts of this elder that were similar to the one that they had seen before in the training hall. Though for Lin Fan and Ye Qing Huan, it wasn’t as if they were that certain of this.
That elder was someone that they had only met once and had only seen for a few minutes, so it wasn’t as if they were that familiar with that elder.
They had to depend on Xiao Mu to see if it could confirm this.
Xiao Mu didn’t say anything as it looked at the elder floating there, but eventually it said, "Yes, I do see the similarities."
When even Xiao Mu said this, it was almost certain that this was the case.
Only even if that was the truth, it wasn’t as if it would change the current scenario.
Once Xiao Mu said this, the elder continued by saying, "Since I’m your uncle, it’s only normal that I should give you a present as we’re meeting for the first time."
Then his tone changed as he said, "But it seems like I’ve changed my mind. After watching you move through this lab, I’ve decided to give you more than just a meeting gift."
After the elder finished saying this, there was this badge that suddenly came out of a hidden compartment in the desk. This badge floated over to where Xiao Mu was and remained floating there in the air in front of it.
After sending the badge there, the elder said, "I want to pass on my inheritance to you. You’re someone that shows the spirit of a researcher, so it would be fine to pass this place to you."
Xiao Mu didn’t reach out to take the badge even though it was just floating there in front of it.
No one would have taken something like this since it just seemed too shady.
There was no such thing as a free lunch in this world and that was what this was right now. So anyone in this situation would have felt that this was a bit shady.
Seeing that Xiao Mu didn’t take it, the elder didn’t actually panic.
It even seemed like the elder was confident that Xiao Mu would take this thing in the end.
"Your soul is bound to it? You’re not just a soul fragment?"
Lin Fan was the one that suddenly said this.
The elder turned to look at him with a surprised look before giving a nod to confirm this.
When the elder confirmed this, the three of them were even more shocked.
After all, a soul was completely different from just a soul fragment.
A soul that had been preserved since the time of the Dao Sect, one didn’t even need to doubt just how much knowledge was preserved in this soul.
At the same time, this soul was something that could be revived as long as a proper vessel was found. Unlike a soul fragment that was already destined to disappear once its power was used up, a soul was something that was complete that would be able to sustain itself.
Only it didn’t make sense how a soul had been passed down since the days of the Dao Sect.
The upper realm that had come to destroy the Dao Sect would have already made sure that everything related to the Dao Sect would be destroyed. That included this badge that would have contained the soul of one of the elders of the Dao Sect.
"You’re wondering how I was able to survive all this time? It’s actually very simple."
Pointing at the badge, the elder said, "This badge is something that I created, it allows one to hide things inside of it without being detected by anything. Though there’s only a small capacity for things that can be hidden inside of it."
