Chapter 1574: Negotiating or bribing?

Lin Fan didn’t answer right away as he looked at this little child that appeared in front of him.

A child certainly wouldn’t appear in a place like this without reason, so there had to be something special about this child’s identity.

Though from the aura that this child gave off, it was actually quite easy for Lin Fan to guess who this child was.

"It’s the spirit of the illusion array?"

He had some understanding of arrays because of what he had been taught and there were a few things that he had learned from exchanging with the system. So he knew that there were things like array spirits once an array reached a certain point.

But it seemed like this array spirit wasn’t that developed.

Not only did it look like a child, it was also acting like a child.

Though there was no mistaking that this array spirit should be much older than him since it was something that was created by the Dao Sect. It really was hard to tell just exactly how old this array spirit was.

"It never developed properly since there was nothing that helped it develop."

After all, this illusion array was abandoned by the Dao Sect after it was destroyed by the disaster. For the array spirit to develop, it would need to have contact with different things that would teach it new things.

When it was isolated like this, it was only natural that the array spirit would still have the mental capacity of a child since there was nothing that would teach it how to grow.

Array spirits were different from normal children after all.

Seeing that Lin Fan wasn’t saying anything in response, the array spirit slowly seemed to lose his temper. Though from Lin Fan’s point of view, it was almost as if he was watching a child throw a tantrum.

So he said, "Alright, alright, it wasn’t my intention to harm you. I apologize for scaring you like that."

"Then why are you doing this?" The array spirit didn’t seem to calm down even though Lin Fan had apologized. This array spirit really looked just like a child that was throwing a temper tantrum and it was getting worse by the minute.

But even though he was throwing this temper tantrum, it didn’t seem like he was actually planning on doing anything to Lin Fan.

From the way that he looked at Lin Fan even made it seem like he was a bit afraid of Lin Fan. Especially the way that he didn’t actually dare to look directly at Lin Fan even though he was throwing this temper tantrum.

"He’s afraid because nothing he does has any effect on me." Lin Fan couldn’t help giving a bitter laugh when he figured out why the array spirit was acting this way.

However, this did make things easier for him.

"All I was trying to do was free my friends from the array, so I had to use this forceful method." Lin Fan said honestly in the end before turning to look at Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu.

The array spirit wasn’t surprised to hear this since he had been watching them the entire time. The array spirit naturally knew that they were together and he knew that the Iron Fist King in the second room was also related to them.

But it wasn’t as if the array spirit was going to take this lying down still.

"This is the trial of the heart, this isn’t something that you should be messing with. You should let them pass on their own instead of trying to forcefully pull them out." The tone of the array spirit’s voice was as if he knew that he was right.

"Then it seems like we can’t come to a compromise." Lin Fan said without any hesitation.

When the array spirit heard this, there was a stunned look that appeared on his face.

He looked at Lin Fan as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing, but that wasn’t strange since Lin Fan didn’t seem to have any intentions of negotiating with it at all.

The array spirit could already hear from Lin Fan’s voice that he meant what he said, so he couldn’t help feeling afraid again. There was even this unconscious tremble that came over the array spirit’s body.

A bitter feeling filled Lin Fan when he saw this since he couldn’t help feeling like he was bullying a child with the way that the array spirit looked.

Still, he couldn’t back down since this was something that was related to the people he cared about.

Which was why Lin Fan started moving towards the corridor that led to the fifth room without a single word.

The array spirit didn’t do anything other than watch Lin Fan at first, but then he couldn’t help asking, "Are you going to come back?"

"Until they’re released, I’ll keep coming back."

"Wah!"

Lin Fan froze the moment the array spirit burst into tears like this.

He couldn’t stop his face from twitching when he saw the array spirit crying like this. This was an array spirit from the Dao Sect that had lived for countless years more than him, yet he had bullied into crying like this.

This was a feeling that he didn’t know how to describe, but there was one thing that it did make him feel.

"This is so awkward..."

It didn’t seem like the array spirit was going to stop crying with how more and more tears were coming out of his eyes. It really felt like the array spirit would keep crying until the entire cave was filled with his tears.

So in the end, Lin Fan couldn’t help saying, "Alright, stop crying already. Here, have a taste of this."

He didn’t know what to expect from this, but he took out some candy from the system store and handed it over to the array spirit.

The array spirit was still crying, but his attention was drawn in by Lin Fan. In particular, the array spirit’s attention seemed to be focused on the candy that Lin Fan had taken out.

This candy was quite colourful, which was what had attracted the array spirit at first. But then it seemed like the array spirit was attracted by the scent of the candy as well.

Lin Fan couldn’t help wondering how this array spirit was even experiencing these sensations, but then he remembered how realistic the illusions shown by the illusion array were.

If the illusion array had the ability to create such realistic illusions, then the array spirit of that array should be able to create a real form. It was almost like turning illusions into reality, but it didn’t seem like it was strong enough to create a form that was too powerful.

This small form was most likely the limit of what the array spirit could do.

Eventually, the array spirit took the candy and his face lit up the moment that the candy went into his mouth. It really looked like he was just a child that was having candy for the first time.

The enjoyment from the candy that the array spirit felt caused it to stop crying. However, that sensation didn’t last long since the candy was only so big.

Once it was done with the candy, the array spirit looked at Lin Fan as if he was asking for more. However, Lin Fan didn’t give the array spirit more candy.

Instead, Lin Fan calmly said, "I want to bring them out of the array one way or another, but that doesn’t mean that I have to use force. As long as I can get some kind of control over this array, I wouldn’t mind stopping."

Then as if he thought of something, Lin Fan raised the token in his hand up for the array spirit to see.

The array spirit didn’t seem to react to Lin Fan’s words at first, but then he reacted when he saw the token. The array spirit didn’t answer right away as he looked at the token like he was examining it.

After looking at the token for a bit, the array spirit looked like he was even considering something. Though from the look on his childish face that couldn’t hide his emotions, he seemed to be struggling with this idea.

Once the array spirit was done thinking this through, he finally said, "Since you’ve already passed the trial and you have the token of the next sect master, then you can control parts of the array. I can’t give you full control, but I can give you access to certain actions."

Lin Fan let out an internal sigh of relief when he heard this, but the array spirit had more to say, "However, I do have a condition first."

Lin Fan knew that it wouldn’t be that easy, but he still prepared himself for what the array spirit had to say.

"I want some more of the thing that you just gave me."

It seemed like he had been thinking too deeply into this.

In the end, the array spirit still had the mentality of a child.

So it seemed like this array spirit was actually quite easy to trick.

Taking out the candy, there was a part of Lin Fan that didn’t know what to make of this situation.

"Am I negotiating with it or am I bribing it?"

From the way that the array spirit inhaled the candy, it really felt like he was bribing it.

"Still, at least that’s dealt with."
