Chapter 1351: A conference?

Chapter 1351: A conference?

The banquet was quite the luxurious one, even though the matter that they came to discuss was quite dire.

It seemed like they were keen on showing off their wealth and power as much as possible with how the banquet was being held.

It really didn’t seem like they were here to discuss an important matter.

Lin Fan couldn’t help frowning at this place since there were plenty of people that came over to talk to him.

The problem was that they were all here to talk about him rather than talk business. After all, most of them were the young women that had been brought along to find a partner and their parents.

It was clear that there was only one reason that they were approaching him.

Which was why Lin Fan just simply said to them, “I already have a wife.”

The young ladies and their parents were caught off guard when they heard this.

All of them knew that any young people brought here were brought here to find someone to be with, so why would he say something like this?

Was it because he wasn’t satisfied with them?

But if it was, he would have said something that would have had more tact than this since it was a matter of looking down on the other side if he was this blunt. It didn’t seem to make any sense why Lin Fan would be acting like this.

That was until they heard from Agnus.

“His partner is the princess of our Laver Empire.”

All of them were surprised to hear this, but the nobles responded quickly to situations like this.

They immediately figured something out and came to a conclusion.

“So he’s been sent to build his prestige instead of actually being sent here to find a partner. It makes sense since his partner is the princess of the Laver Empire.”

It was with this that they started treating Lin Fan differently.

Though the things that they discussed were still things that Lin Fan didn’t want to discuss with them.

After all, it was clear that they were still looking down on him and ignoring him in any real discussions. They all thought that he was nothing more than a man that was being raised by a woman.

To them, the princess of the Laver Empire was the real person that they should be wary of and Lin Fan was nothing more than an accessory. To them, Lin Fan was considered their way to reach the princess.

Which was why he disdained talking to them and had the frown on his face the entire time.

Though that wasn’t the only reason that this was the case.

The other reason was that Lin Fan didn’t waste any time as he spread out his spiritual sense. Though before he did release his spiritual sense, he did test it to make sure that he didn’t attract any attention.

It seemed that the people of this magic continent didn’t have the same detection for spiritual sense like the cultivation continent.

Though if there were stronger experts here, Lin Fan wouldn’t have done this. The people that were here were nothing more than nobles that had come to represent their countries in this matter.

With this spiritual sense, he was able to hear several conversations.

It was those conversations that made Lin Fan disappointed since there wasn’t a single piece of useful information.

The only thing that these people discussed seemed to be gossip.

They only cared to gossip and didn’t seem to care about the imminent war that was about to happen.

The more that they acted this way, the more that Lin Fan thought that this situation wasn’t as serious. Or he thought that the people of the magic continent didn’t seem to care about this matter at all.

Was it because they had confidence or was it something else?

When the banquet was over, that was when they finally went to a conference room.

Though from the state that many of these nobles were in, it really didn’t seem like they were in any kind of state to hold a proper conference.

In fact, the only thing that was really discussed was that they were here to talk about some recent intruders. Other than this general description, there really wasn’t much that was discussed.

Lin Fan really felt like if something happened to the magic continent, it was something that they deserved.

Only he needed information since he wanted to protect the Heavenly Demon Sect. After all, he knew that the Heavenly Demon Sect wouldn’t get involved in this matter unless they were pulled into it.

So it had to be someone else that was plotting against everyone.

“With that, we’ll adjourn for the day. Let’s continue our discussions tomorrow.”

Everyone seemed satisfied with how the conference ended except for Lin Fan. He was the only one that seemed to be agitated over all of this, but it wasn’t as if there was anything that he could do about it.

So he had no choice but to follow Agnus to the manor that had been prepared for them.

When they arrived, Agnus waved her hand for Lin Fan to follow her into a room.

Then before he could say anything, she put a finger to her lip for him to be silent before taking out what seemed to be a magic scroll. It was only after she ripped this scroll and released its power into the room that she finally spoke.

“You’re disappointed, aren’t you?” She said in a tone that almost seemed like she was teasing him.

Lin Fan couldn’t help revealing a wry look when he heard this, but then he said in a serious voice, “It doesn’t seem like a conference at all. This seems like nothing more than a socializing party.”

“Well, you’re not wrong about that.” Agnus said in a casual voice.

Lin Fan couldn’t help knitting his brows before glaring at Agnus.

She just calmly looked back at him before saying, “There’s no need to look at me like this. I know what you’re thinking, but we are here for something important. Otherwise, there was no reason for you to come along.”

“I can think of a reason.” Lin Fan said with a soft snort.

Agnus just ignored this, but the faint smile on her lips showed that she knew what he was talking about.

After that faint smile disappeared, she said, “This conference itself isn’t important, it’s what happens under the scene that’s important.”

“Building relationships?” Lin Fan asked in a confused voice.

Agnus responded to this with a shake of her head before revealing another faint smile to say, “It’s the secret meetings between smaller groups that mattered. That is where the real conference is being held.”

Lin Fan slightly knitted his brows when he heard this, but it didn’t seem like he was convinced. After all, he had been using his spiritual senses to listen in on the secret conversation between the nobles and it didn’t seem like they were exchanging any important information.

In his eyes, it seemed like they were doing nothing more than gossiping with one another. It really didn’t seem like there was anything that was worth learning from them.

Agnus looked at him as if she could guess what he was thinking before saying, “It’s just that you’re not familiar with the signs that nobles use. This is something that’s quite common among the nobles, but someone like you who isn’t from this place wouldn’t know that.”

Lin Fan raised one brow in doubt, but there was a part of what Agnus said that was convincing.

It really didn’t seem like there was anything that he could say to refute this.

Still, that didn’t mean anything since it wouldn’t allow him to gather the information that he wanted.

Once again, it was as if Agnus had read his mind as she said, “Don’t worry, you just have to follow me. I’ve already arranged everything.”

Lin Fan once again raised one brow in doubt, but this was more surprise than it was doubt. After all, he knew how capable Agnus was, so it wasn’t as if there was anything for him to doubt.

It was just that he didn’t think that she would bring him along that easily.

“If we were just going to mess with you, then I wouldn’t have been sent. This time, the situation really is serious.” When her voice fell, there was a serious look that appeared on Agnus’ face.

Lin Fan couldn’t help being a bit taken aback since it was rare for Agnus to show this kind of emotion.

In fact, the emotion that she showed earlier wasn’t the kind of emotion that she showed normally either.

The normal Agnus was the cool and collected kind of person after all.

Since she was going this far, Lin Fan just gave a nod to show that he understood and would trust her. Even if he didn’t know what she had done, he believed that she wouldn’t say this for no reason.

Agnus just gave a simple nod before saying, “Go and rest up. We have a long day tomorrow.”

Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling a chill run down his spine when she said this.

If Agnus considered it a long day, there was a part of him that wondered just how hard it would be.

He had an idea of how much she did normally without complaining, so it must be quite a bit if she was calling it a long day.

Now there was a part of him that wondered what he had gotten himself into…
