Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 1118: Chain Reaction

  • Next Chapter

After the clothes brought down the clay, a small gap suddenly expanded into a hole the size of Fred’s thumb.

The fierce wind instantly poured in through the hole.

Fred’s face changed, and as he just sat up, some broken snow entered the shelter through the hole, making him shiver.

“Damn it, I did something stupid!”

Fred cursed himself while hurriedly trying to find a remedy.

He looked around and still felt that using clothes to block the hole was more suitable.

Therefore, Fred moistened some clothes again, intending to stuff them into the hole to block it.

But Fred had not yet managed to stuff the clothes.

The clay around the hole seemed to be affected by a chain reaction and began to flake off.

As the wind intensified, the clay began to crumble like weathered stones.

Fred panicked.

And in his panic, Fred accidentally knocked over the rice bowl placed near the fireplace, causing the water inside to spill directly onto the burning firewood in the fireplace.

The firelight instantly disappeared, and Fred’s vision went black.

At the same time, a burning smell filled Fred’s nose.

In darkness, if it’s always black around, the human eye can barely see some things, but when the light source disappears instantly, the darkness is very intense.

Fred was affected by such darkness.

Darkness was stimulating his vision, and the burning smell was stimulating his sense of smell, causing Fred to lose his composure.

He originally thought to fix the hole first but failed to locate the right spot.

In confusion, Fred stepped on the supplies piled in the shelter, causing him to sway and fall to the ground.

As luck would have it, while falling, Fred instinctively reached out in an attempt to grab something to regain his balance.

But his hand pushed onto the just extinguished fireplace.

The high temperature made Fred scream instantly; he quickly withdrew his arm and crashed heavily into the windward side of the wall.

In the next moment.

Crash, thud!

Along with the screams, chaotic sounds echoed throughout the camp.

“What the hell!”

Chen Wen was awakened; he immediately activated his perception skills.

However, he looked around and found no problem in his camp.

Could it be that someone else had trouble?

Thinking this, Chen Wen hurriedly left his shelter and went outside to see what was happening.

Others, upon hearing the noise, quickly checked their own shelters’ condition and then swiftly came out to examine the situation.

The crowd quickly noticed the anomaly with Fred’s area.

But there wasn’t any fire tonight, nor the light of stars or the moon. In total darkness, others didn’t dare venture out rashly.

Moreover, they were still enduring the blizzard; the outside wind and extreme cold were unbearable for everyone.

They only stayed near their shelters, leaning against the door to perceive the outside situation.

However, Chen Wen wasn’t as fragile as the others.

He decisively left the shelter, heading outside.

Chen Wen looked around and quickly confirmed that there was a problem on Fred’s side.

Braving the wind and snow, he walked over to Fred, shouting loudly on the way, telling others to stay calm and stay in the shelter without moving.

[Red-Nosed Rudolph], [Cold Resistance], [Cold-Loving]…

The cold-resistant skills acquired for survival during this time played a role, making Chen Wen almost unaffected by the cold wind.

Upon hearing Chen Wen’s shouts, the originally tense hearts of others gradually calmed down.

Chen Wen quickly arrived at Fred’s location.

He looked at Fred’s situation and frowned: the damage to this guy’s shelter is quite severe! How did he manage to do that?

Despite thinking this, Chen Wen had no time to ask further.

He cleared the collapsed stones on one side of the shelter slightly, then dragged Fred out.

After Fred stood up sheepishly, he said loudly, “My shelter collapsed! But the supplies should be fine!”

“Forget about the supplies for now!”

Chen Wen shouted loudly, “Follow me, let’s go to Roland’s shelter!”

Roland’s shelter had fewer stored supplies and larger empty space, making it perfectly suitable for Fred to stay overnight in an emergency.

Soon, relying on the slight night vision and memory provided by [Close to Nature], Chen Wen found Roland’s shelter.

The two knocked on the door, and Roland immediately opened it, letting them in.

Once inside, Fred couldn’t help but shiver.

He sneezed and instinctively moved a little closer to the bonfire.

Roland made room, hurriedly took out his hot tea, and let Fred hold it in his arms to keep his core temperature from dropping.

“What happened? Why did one wall of your shelter collapse?”

Chen Wen looked at the disheveled Fred, unable to resist asking.

He was somewhat puzzled.

After all, the shelter was set up by him personally; it shouldn’t have such a collapse under normal circumstances!

Fred sighed while holding the hot tea, having recovered quite a bit by now.

So, Fred spoke gloomily, “You might not know, but this time I hit rock bottom with misfortune!”

After saying this, Fred began to recount what had just happened.

After listening to the story, Chen Wen and Roland still kept tense faces, but they were honestly both speechless and amused.

No way?

Fred was truly unlucky!

He tried to fix one hole, but ended up with a whole wall, this chain reaction reminded Chen Wen of an absurd comedy movie, the Naked Gun series.

In it, a policeman barges in to catch criminals, triggering traps even when not attacked by anyone…

Fred was really a bit outrageous!

Chen Wen took a deep breath, organized his words.

Then he said, “Don’t think about it too much now. You rest here at Roland’s place for a while. I’ll manage the supplies and find a chance to fix your shelter later.”

Upon hearing this, Fred nodded.

At present, this seemed to be the only option.

However, Chen Wen was still somewhat puzzled why everyone else’s shelters were fine, but Fred’s had problems?

Could it be that the raw materials used while building the shelter were not so good?

Chen Wen and Roland asked Fred for more detailed occurrences, and soon, they realized the problem.

Since moving into the shelter, Fred hadn’t checked its condition or maintained its walls.

It’s known that others had checked and maintained their shelters at least twice.

Chen Wen and Roland did it four times.

Finally, Chen Wen and Roland found the reason.

Fred sighed repeatedly upon hearing that the unexpected situation was due to not maintaining the shelter regularly.

There’s still a gap between him and these top-notch players!

He shook his head helplessly, lying on the ground somewhat injured.

Roland let him sleep on the bed, but Fred refused. It was Chen Wen who went out to bring back several pieces of leather to pad Fred, preventing him from being affected by the low ground temperature.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen checked Fred’s injuries.

Due to his long-term survival and frequent labor, the burns were not too serious, with some bruising on his body, but none were severe.

Just that this incident somewhat hurt Fred’s feelings.

He lay on the leather for quite a while without speaking.

Chen Wen didn’t disturb him much, let Roland keep an eye on Fred, and went to handle the matter.
