Chapter 1104: Chapter 123: Mira

In the end, Chen Wen still decided to move together with Arseny’s team.

On the way, Arseny kept talking about what he had seen and what he guessed regarding that mysterious employer.

Chen Wen kept committing it all to memory.

By the time they were almost at the lakeside, Chen Wen had more or less gotten a clear picture.

They boarded a speedboat, and Chen Wen and Arseny’s group headed for the place they’d arranged to meet the employer.

While on the boat, Arseny used the comms device to notify the employer, and after receiving the news, the employer immediately expressed his approval of Arseny and the others and urged them to approach quickly.

On the way, Chen Wen looked at the Northeast Tiger and started muttering something softly in Chinese.

The Northeast Tiger listened to Chen Wen’s words and let out a low “wuwu,” half understanding and half not.

Arseny glanced over curiously, but since he couldn’t make anything of it, he didn’t interfere.

Before long, the trees in front of Chen Wen’s eyes began thinning out, and human buildings started to appear ahead.

Very soon, what seemed to be a small town came into view before Chen Wen.

He narrowed his eyes and took in the situation in the town.

There weren’t many people in the town itself, but at the pier right now a fair number of people had gathered.

“This is our Hunter town. Aside from a handful of residents, the rest are Hunter Clubs that provide Hunter Guide and other services for those who like hunting.”

Arseny came to stand beside Chen Wen and introduced in a low voice, “Also, those people standing on the pier are the employers. That man in the black suit at the very front, wearing square sunglasses, he’s something like the leader of this group. And that little girl in the black padded jacket should be the employer!”

While Arseny was speaking, the Northeast Tiger was also telling Chen Wen what it saw: “I see her! Hey, Chen Wen, that’s the friend I told you about, that little girl. I call her Mira, because that’s what most people call her.”

As it spoke, the Northeast Tiger forced itself to stand up, looking a bit excitedly at the little girl in the distance.

And the little girl on shore, when she saw the Northeast Tiger, a look of delighted surprise suddenly broke through her previously somewhat haggard face.

She couldn’t help taking a few quick steps forward, but was stopped by the person next to her.

The Northeast Tiger spoke quietly to Chen Wen: “I don’t like the one stopping her. Back when I was at Mira’s house, he often used his hands to shoo me away, and sometimes he’d make sounds that made me really uncomfortable.”

Chen Wen kept the Northeast Tiger’s words in mind, then said, “Stick to the plan later. Hold it together. Don’t go forgetting everything the moment you see your old friend and get too happy.”

At that, the Northeast Tiger nodded over and over, indicating that it definitely wouldn’t forget what Chen Wen had told it.

It quickly lay back down in the cage, putting on a very weak appearance.

…

The speedboat pulled in to the dock.

The crowd began to lead the Northeast Tiger off the boat, while on another speedboat, people were driving another group of Hunters ashore.

The man with the square sunglasses strode over quickly. He took one look at the Northeast Tiger, confirmed it was the one they’d lost, and then gave Arseny a satisfied smile. “Not bad. Looks like we didn’t put our trust in the wrong people. You finally got it back.”

Arseny gave a slight nod.

But right then, from the back of the crowd, the girl in the black padded jacket—Mira—showed an expression of anger on her face. “What is this! Didn’t I tell you that Wuwu must come back without a single scratch? What happened to it? Why is it still hurt? And its condition doesn’t look very good either!”

So the Northeast Tiger used to be called Wuwu?

That name’s… kind of interesting.

Chen Wen thought.

Hearing this, Arseny said unhurriedly, “That question, you’ll have to ask this Hunter team you invited.”

He clapped his hands, and Boris immediately dragged the Hunter captain to the front.

The man’s face showed a defeated look.

Before he could speak, Boris laid out everything this group had done.

When she heard how, for money, they had brutally mistreated Wuwu, anger appeared on Mira’s face.

“Very good! You’re all very good!”

Mira looked at the man with the square sunglasses, her tone suddenly turning icy cold, and said something in Russian.

Chen Wen didn’t understand, but seeing the serious look on the sunglasses man’s face, Arseny’s slight frown, and the Hunter captain starting to sweat—

He couldn’t help but silently offer a moment of mourning for that Hunter captain.

This Mira really looked like the type with a very arrogant, overbearing temper. He wasn’t sure if his plan could still go through.

The man with the square sunglasses waved a hand to his subordinates, and several burly men immediately took the Hunter captain and his people away.

Judging by the direction they went, they were probably heading toward a hotel in the town.

Chen Wen didn’t bother with those rule-breaking Hunters. If he’d caught up with them alone earlier, he’d have made them suffer a bit himself; they had it coming.

What mattered most now was this girl called Mira.

After venting her rage, Mira’s expression looked slightly better.

She said in English, “You did well. I’ll make sure they pay according to the contract.”

With that, Mira quickly walked over to the Northeast Tiger.

She said something in Russian and reached out, trying to slip her hand into the cage to stroke the Northeast Tiger.

But at that moment, Chen Wen suddenly stepped in and blocked her. “Hold on! Don’t touch it yet!”

Mira’s expression changed instantly, and the man with the square sunglasses stepped in front of Chen Wen.

He looked Chen Wen over, frowning slightly. “This… is a member of your Hunter team? Why does he look like some kind of wild man?”

Arseny knew what Chen Wen intended to do and also knew how to cooperate.

So he said, “He’s not one of ours. But we only managed to find Wuwu thanks to his help. He’s also the one who calmed Wuwu down, soothed it, and treated its wounds.”

Listening to Arseny, Mira snorted and said, “Since you contributed so much, I’ll give you a chance to explain. Why can’t I touch it?”

At that, Chen Wen exchanged a look with the Northeast Tiger, Wuwu.

He said leisurely, “It’s like this. Have you heard the term ‘psychological trauma’?”

Mira said impatiently, “Just explain. Don’t ask me questions!”

Good grief, that temper really was terrible to a certain degree.

Chen Wen shook his head and said, “Psychological trauma means that during this operation, this Northeast Tiger, Wuwu, developed a very serious fear of humans. You can try it. As long as you put your hand in front of it, it’ll have a stress reaction.”

The sunglasses man murmured a couple of sentences beside Mira, and Mira frowned. “Is that for real?”

She looked at the Northeast Tiger, Wuwu, and reached out her hand, as if wanting to test it.

But Wuwu, already knowing what Chen Wen wanted, immediately put on a terrified look. Its body kept curling in on itself, looking like a hedgehog that had been attacked by wild beasts, wanting nothing more than to shrink itself into a ball.

Mira instantly pulled her hand back and didn’t touch it.

Watching from the side, Chen Wen couldn’t help silently complaining about the Northeast Tiger Wuwu’s acting skills.

So realistic!

But it really worked!

Looked like this girl Mira did care about Wuwu quite a bit—made things much easier.
