He checked the time. It was almost 5:00 PM. Yang Hui had to go pick up Wenren Du’er and take her to her classmate Feng Yan’s house to apologize. Zhu Jing didn’t dare to stay in bed any longer, either; who knew what Xia Jie would think if she came home and found her lying around in the middle of the day.

As he was leaving, Yang Hui added a final compliment, "Zhu Jing, this is a nice place you’ve rented. I’ll be coming by often."

Feeling energized and refreshed, Yang Hui drove his Mercedes-Benz E-Class toward Wenjing Yunlu.

As he neared the vehicle entrance to the complex, he saw a young, elegant, and sophisticated-looking woman walking not far ahead. The hem of her beige dress swayed with each step, creating flowing ripples.

Her waist swayed so delicately, one might worry such a slender figure could snap. From her silhouette, it had to be Yang Bing. Remembering what she’d said yesterday about fulfilling a duty on behalf of Du’er’s mother, Yang Hui flicked on his right turn signal, preparing to pull over and greet her.

The weather was dry, and a water truck had just passed, washing the road clean. As Yang Hui pulled over, he failed to notice an AD Calcium milk bottle some jerk had left by the roadside. He ran over a corner of it, and the angle was so perfect that the bottle flew up and smacked Yang Bing right on her rear, making her cry out in pain and spin around to see who had attacked her.

She turned just in time to see the passenger-side window of a black Mercedes E-Class roll down, revealing that jinx’s face. ’Oh, God—nothing good ever comes from running into him.’

Yang Bing despaired. She knew he hadn’t done it on purpose, but ’doesn’t he realize he’s a walking disaster? Can’t he just stay away from me?’

Yang Hui smiled sheepishly. This was really awkward. Her dress clung to her rounded rear, which was now smeared with muddy water—residue from the water truck that had been on the bottle.

Yang Bing could only feel the sting; she couldn’t see what had happened behind her. Yang Hui called out, "Teacher Yang, your butt’s all dirty!"

She shot him a vicious glare and glanced around. His shout had made all the nearby pedestrians turn to look at her. Fuming, she stomped her foot, wishing she could just kick his Mercedes into orbit.

"Why don’t you get in the car? I can wipe it off for you."

Yang Bing was livid. ’Does this guy even hear himself?’ But the damp spot on her behind had already soaked through her dress. She could feel the chill and could well imagine what it looked like.

’This is so humiliating.’ People kept walking by, some even pointing at her. Unable to bear it any longer, she marched over, yanked open the Mercedes door, and sat down inside.

Yang Hui pulled out a wet wipe. "Teacher Yang, just lean over, and I’ll wipe it off for you."

Yang Bing gave him a cold sneer. ’Hmph. Pervert. You think I don’t know what you’re up to?’

"No, thanks. If you’re heading to the underground garage, just drop me off at Building 5."

Yang Hui heard her and realized she had a point. If he was taking her straight home, there was no need for him to wipe her butt.

"Oh, right. I guess I was just grasping at straws. Don’t mind me."

Yang Bing stared out the window, not believing a word. ’Grasping at straws? He wasn’t grasping at straws, he was just horny and impatient.’

’So she lives in Building 5, not too far from my place. If I remember right, Building 5 has the smaller units. I wonder if she lives alone or with family.’

"Teacher Yang, do you live alone?" They had arrived, and just as she was about to get out of the car, he hit her with that question. Yang Bing instinctively covered her chest, asking warily, "What are you trying to do?"

’This woman is way too sensitive. I’m a perfectly upstanding young man, why is she treating me like some kind of creep? I’ve been around the block. I have an incredibly beautiful girlfriend, Shen Meng, who’s just as stunning as Yang Bing, not to mention a devastatingly hot friend-with-benefits in Liu Shasha. And that’s before we even get to other prospects like Zhu Jing and Xia Jie, who are ripe for the picking. Am I really that thirsty?’

"I was just thinking about when you fulfill that duty for Du’er’s mother. Should we do it at your place, or my place?"

With one leg already out of the car, Yang Bing paused, half her body still inside. She shot him a venomous glare. "I don’t know."

With that, she got out, grabbed her small purse, and stormed into the elevator lobby with a sway of her hips.

’This woman... She was the one who offered to fulfill the duty, so how can she go back on her word now? "Only women and petty men are difficult to raise." The ancients were not wrong.’

He shook his head, finding her impossible to understand. He started the car, drove to his own building, and called upstairs, telling the little girl to come straight down to the B1 parking garage.

Du’er came skipping out of the elevator lobby, clearly in a good mood.

"Something good happen at school today?" Yang Hui teased as the little girl hopped into the back seat.

"Teacher Yang called Feng Yan and me into her office today. I gave her a sincere apology, and she already forgave me."

"Sincerity is an attitude. It’s not just about saying the words." He drove the Mercedes out of the underground garage and headed straight for Feng Yan’s house. Judging by the girl’s cheerful state, he failed to see anything sincere about it.

Her classmate Feng Yan may have forgiven her, but Yang Hui still felt they had to go. It was a matter of showing the parents’ attitude; otherwise, the other family might think they were ill-mannered.

"Du’er, about the clothes in the back seat—the bag on the floor is for Feng Yan. You can carry it in and give it to her. The other bag is for you. Remember to take it upstairs when we get back."

Wenren Du’er opened the bag and glanced at the price tag. "Whoa!" she yelped. "Daddy, I promise I’ll never pull a prank like this again!"

He didn’t understand the sudden outburst until she added, "These two outfits cost several thousand yuan! The family has suffered a terrible financial loss."

So that’s what this was about. Yang Hui chuckled. "You should be glad if money is all it takes to solve a problem. If she hadn’t forgiven you, given that this could be considered school bullying, you would’ve received a major demerit at the very least. That would go into your permanent record. Wouldn’t that be a stain on your life?"
