Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Every Step Beyond the Mysterious Person’s Expectations

Witch Elisya, who had been floating in midair, watched the series of clean and efficient killing moves and was now completely certain.

The Close Combat Skills this young man was using.

They were definitely the exclusive skills of that Giant Dragon.

You see.

That Giant Dragon, in human form, had ultimately succeeded in marrying that renowned Legendary Witch.

And this set of fierce Combat Skills was recorded in detail by that Witch and preserved for posterity.

However, because this Combat Stance was too frenzied, the strain it placed on the body was absurdly high.

So, even though the secret manual for it was circulated, very few normal humans would ever actively learn it.

Because even though these techniques were executed by that Giant Dragon in a human body,

when they were created, there was no consideration at all for whether an Ordinary human’s frail physique could withstand them.

You could say that every single move of this Fighting Skill was aimed at an explosive burst of power at the absolute limit, and it was all extremely dangerous close-quarters combat.

If a person didn’t have a Giant Dragon’s formidable stamina and monstrous Defense Power,

forcefully learning these Combat Skills, which would inflict eight hundred points of damage on oneself for every thousand dealt to the enemy, would just mean that person had a death wish.

Back when she was traveling with Karen,

she had even entertained the thought of having Karen learn these powerful Martial Arts.

But after she examined the art closely, she discovered that these Martial Arts were indeed extremely ill-suited for humans.

In the end, she couldn’t bear the thought of what it would do to Karen and completely gave up on the idea.

At that moment,

Lance took advantage of the brief lull in combat after slaying the Lizardman.

He turned his head and picked up the topic that had been interrupted earlier.

"Ms. Elisya, can you now explain in detail what exactly Life Track Grafting means?"

Hearing this form of address, the phantom floating in midair frowned, her pretty brows furrowing in displeasure.

"Hey, don’t call me ’Ms.’"

She put her hands on her hips, her tone carrying a hint of a young girl’s playful pout.

"Even though this is all happening in the future, the me that’s stuck in this time point is still a young, beautiful girl, you know."

"Calling me ’Ms.’ just aged me by over ten years."

"My apologies."

Lance sidestepped slightly, dodging a bone spear thrust by a Lizardman.

He tossed out the perfunctory, insincere apology.

Then, his right hand shot out, grabbed the spear’s wooden shaft, and yanked hard. His left fist slammed heavily into the Lizardman’s head, smashing the ugly skull to pieces.

"Hmph, you clueless men are all the same."

Elisya watched Lance’s dismissive attitude and pouted with some dissatisfaction.

However, she didn’t press the issue of the title any further. Instead, her playful expression vanished, and she began to seriously explain the concept of "Life Track Grafting."

"So-called Life Track Grafting is a very taboo and advanced Destiny Technique."

"The Caster consumes a vast amount of Magic Power to create this historical projection."

"It forcefully places intruders like you into specific historical roles."

"Then, the Technique will judge the degree to which you’ve successfully embodied the historical figure based on all your actions within the projection."

"As long as your level of embodiment reaches a certain preset standard for the Technique,"

"then when the projection ends, this Array will strip a specific track of destiny from the historical person you played and graft it onto you."

Lance nodded and was about to say more.

Just then, two short Goblins silently rushed into his blind spot.

They flanked him, one from the left and one from the right, tightly gripping poisoned Bone Blades as they lunged straight for Lance’s eyes.

Meanwhile, at the edge of the shallows a short distance away, a Goblin Shaman was raising a deathly pale Skull Staff high into the air.

A foul-smelling Acidic Rotting Fireball was rapidly forming at the tip of the staff.

In that instant, it could be said that this combo attack had completely sealed off every possible angle for Lance to dodge.

But in Lance’s vision at that moment, a researched Trait was flashing on a translucent screen of light.

[Mutated Weakness Insight: Goblin Action Prediction (0.5 seconds)]

This brief half-second advantage represented absolute dominance in a true close-quarters battle.

Lance remained expressionless and simply took a half-step to his right.

The Goblin lunging from the right instantly widened its eyes, realizing in horror that its own thrusting motion seemed to have voluntarily delivered its fragile neck into Lance’s hand.

Without hesitation, Lance’s fingers tightened.

With the crisp sound of breaking bones, the Goblin died instantly.

Immediately after, Lance put his strength into one arm, using the corpse in his hand as a makeshift meat shield and slamming it directly toward the Bone Blade stabbing at him from the left.

The sharp Bone Blade sank into its companion’s body with a wet SQUELCH. The Goblin holding the blade let out a shriek as it was thrown back by the immense impact.

Lance took a step forward, his left fist smashing the creature’s head like a sledgehammer.

The grating shriek came to an abrupt end.

Then, Lance put power into both arms, swinging the two mangled Goblin corpses and hurling them like heavy projectiles directly at the Shaman casting in the distance.

Just half a second before the Acidic Rotting Fireball in the Goblin Shaman’s hands was fully formed,

the two heavy corpses struck it with perfect accuracy.

The out-of-control Acidic Rotting Fireball immediately underwent a violent Suicide Bombing.

A sickly green light exploded with a BOOM, instantly illuminating the entire shallows.

The Lance of today could be considered a fully qualified Goblin slayer.

All the Goblins’ tactical coordination and attack intentions were seen right through by his eyes.

After that series of violent movements, Lance wasn’t even breathing heavily.

He turned his head toward the Witch’s phantom in midair and continued his questioning.

"Lady Witch, since the other party expended so much effort to set this trap, there must be something about you and Mr. Karen that they covet."

"That’s why they need to graft destiny through my actions, to obtain that hidden item."

"Can you think of anything you might have that would be worth a High Tier Professional plotting for?"

Elisya floated left and then right in midair.

She furrowed her brow and thought for a long time, but she really couldn’t think of any treasure worth someone going to such great lengths to plot for.

After all, at this specific point in time, she and Karen were merely two Outstanding Level Adventurers.

To those High Tier beings at the apex of power, their current net worth was simply not worth mentioning.

"It must be that the future me and Karen did something earth-shattering."

Elisya spread her hands, offering a reasonable speculation.

"But you don’t have to worry at all right now. The moment you stepped in here, their evil scheme was already completely foiled."
