Who Says I'm Not a Proper Adventurer?
Chapter 149: Too Fierce, Causing the Technique to Collapse?
Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Too Fierce, Causing the Technique to Collapse?
At that moment, Lance shot out his hands, gripping the necks of two Goblins that had just lunged at him.
The two green-skinned monsters kicked their legs feebly in mid-air, letting out agonized wails.
"What do you mean by that?"
Lance twisted his hands, snapping the monsters’ necks, and took the chance to ask.
"Because you’re just so different from that idiot Karen! Karen wasn’t nearly as handsome as you!"
Elisya covered her mouth and giggled.
"With such a huge difference between you two, you can’t possibly graft much of his fate onto yourself."
Lance kicked up the Lizardman’s spear from the ground.
He gripped the spear and hurled it with immense force, skewering two approaching Kobolds and pinning them to the ground like a shish kebab.
Hearing the Witch’s teasing words, a few dark lines appeared on Lance’s forehead.
"My apologies, Lady Witch, but the answer to this is very important for my future. Please be serious."
"Alright, alright, handsome. You really can’t take a joke."
Elisya’s smile vanished, and her tone grew serious.
"But I wasn’t wrong earlier. The greater the difference between your personality and habits and Karen’s, the less of his fate you’ll be able to successfully graft."
"I don’t know why the creator of this Technique chose you to graft Karen’s fate onto."
"But just looking at your brutal combat techniques and style, you’re far too different from Karen."
"What was Senior Karen like back then?"
Lance shattered a Gnoll’s jaw with a single punch and immediately pressed for an answer.
The Witch touched her chin with a translucent finger, putting on an expression of someone trying hard to remember.
"Karen liked to use those wide Heavy Swords, and he was interested in all sorts of complex Knowledge."
"He especially loved to study arcane knowledge related to Spells. He would even occasionally use a few support Spells in battle."
"And he was a very patient, good-tempered person..."
Elisya rattled off a long list of compliments, beginning to ramble on about the time she and that man had spent together.
But Lance only needed to hear the first few conditions to understand everything completely.
’The other party hasn’t failed to make a move; rather, my own choices have thrown their plans off course.’
’That mysterious person hiding in the shadows must have originally planned to cultivate me slowly using the legacy of the Ethereal Silent Demon Swordsman.’
’If not for the accident that led me to choose the advanced Profession of Pale Guard ahead of schedule...’
’...then right now, I would probably be training desperately to combine the Heavy Sword and Spells, all to successfully become a Demon Swordsman.’
’If that had happened, I would have perfectly matched Karen’s combat habits.’
’It seems my choice of Profession back then was a stroke of blind luck, completely derailing their long-held plans.’
The rambling Witch suddenly fell silent.
She seemed to have remembered a crucial point and added,
"But you need to be careful. Once this kind of Technique Array is activated, the total amount of fate being grafted won’t just decrease for no reason."
"It will just become less precise."
"The powerful performance you’re putting on now will ultimately attract a suitable piece of fate and forcibly graft it onto you."
"That’s what makes this forbidden Technique truly formidable."
’The life path of another person?’
Lance’s eyes narrowed slightly.
He didn’t know what kind of unknown trouble having a random fate grafted onto him would cause.
But as long as it disrupted the mastermind’s original plan, it was a fantastic outcome for him.
Today, he had taken this opportunity to catch a small glimpse of the mastermind’s true objective.
’This matter is definitely related to what the Star Night Witch left behind.’
’As long as I secretly investigate in this direction, sooner or later, I’ll be able to expose them.’
Lance lifted his right leg and stomped down hard, snapping the neck of a still-twitching Gnoll at his feet.
He raised his head and looked toward the gloomy forest in the distance.
From it, a constant stream of red-eyed monsters continued to emerge.
Tonight’s battle had really only just begun.
Moreover, his keen Perception Power detected a sense of danger faintly brewing in the depths of the forest.
But faced with this situation, not only did Lance feel no fear, a fanatical excitement welled up within him.
「As time slowly passed.」
The battle on the shallows grew increasingly brutal.
The severed limbs of various Demons piled higher and higher at Lance’s feet, eventually forming a small dam against the water.
Even the edge of the clear lake water was now stained with a thick, viscous layer of red.
At this point, Lance was no longer unscathed.
His crude Leather Armor had been completely shredded by countless claws and teeth.
Tattered scraps of cloth hung from his body, revealing his well-defined, sturdy muscles.
Visible white steam was constantly rising from the surface of his scalding skin.
As for Elisya, who had been floating in mid-air the whole time, she was now completely dumbfounded.
This one-sided defensive slaughter had already lasted for over an hour.
During the first thirty minutes of the battle, she could still float casually nearby, chattering away with Lance.
By the second thirty minutes, watching the endless carnage below, she was starting to feel some visual fatigue.
And when the third thirty-minute mark was reached, the Witch’s gaze had become utterly vacant.
She was completely stunned by the inhuman endurance displayed by the young man before her.
He had been using those violent Body Techniques for nearly the entire duration.
Yet his stamina was like a vast ocean, seemingly bottomless.
Even an Extraordinary Level Senior Adventurer would have been exhausted to the point of collapse from this kind of high-intensity, no-holds-barred brawl, especially while mowing down enemies at such a rate.
But looking at Lance now, he wasn’t even breathing heavily.
The Witch observed him for a long time and could only tell that his lips were a little dry, as if he was merely a bit thirsty from sweating so much.
Among all the Professionals she knew, if a Talent like Karen’s could be praised by the world as genius, then the black-haired youth fighting tooth and nail in the shallows was, without a doubt, a monster in human skin.
After her shock subsided, Elisya quickly detected an anomaly based on the principles of the Spell.
’Something has gone terribly wrong.’
’According to the normal operational rules of the Technique, after withstanding a Demon attack of this intensity, the fate-grafting ritual should have already concluded.’
’But this historical Projection Space shows no sign of ending.’
’There must be a major problem somewhere in the process.’
She used the Witch Race’s unique soul spell to analyze the space.
She soon realized that the core condition for this historical projection to bestow its fate was for the participant to withstand the Demon Tide’s assault for a certain length of time.
The key was the word "withstand."
However, perhaps because the combat power the boy displayed was simply too terrifying, he wasn’t defending at all. Instead, he had cleanly and efficiently slaughtered every single wave of the Demon Tide that rushed him.
’Killing every enemy—in the judgment logic of the Technique Array, can that still be called "withstanding"?’
And so, the rigid Array could only continue to generate new waves of Demons.
Furthermore, to achieve the Effect of pressuring his defensive line, each new wave of Demons was slightly stronger than the last.
But in the face of the boy’s unreasonably terrifying strength, it was as if the Demons’ health and defense had some kind of fixed execution threshold.
As long as a monster’s durability didn’t cross that red line, no matter how many of them came, he would slaughter them with his most brutal Body Techniques.
Because the passive "getting hit while defending" phase was absent, the time limit of the entire historical projection was forcibly and indefinitely extended in this unique way.
And the blood-soaked youth standing atop the pile of corpses... as he stood atop the pile of corpses, his Dark Gold eyes grew ever more feverish amidst the endless slaughter.
It seemed he was getting lost in the thrill of battle.
