Chapter 1836: Chapter 1076: I’m No Longer Pure

“Damn those Mad Fire lunatics, damn it…”

Onora, truly enraged, cursed as she headed deeper into Fran Fort.

Though dangerous Monsters still filled the fort, Onora regarded it as her territory because of the presence of the Small Safe Zone.

With the Mad Fire raging in Fran Fort, she felt obligated to protect her domain, not letting the forest be completely consumed by flames.

She needed to find a way to extinguish the fire, but this wasn’t a normal blaze that water could snuff out. Perhaps she could try using the Abyss to counterbalance it?

No, the simplest and most direct method would be to clear a firebreak.

“I remember there’s a river mixed with Abyss and swamp near the safe zone. If we cut down all the trees there, it should create a firebreak. Without anything flammable, the Mad Fire can’t spread.”

Onora stated her plan and habitually waited for a response from Chrono, who usually followed her.

But today, strangely, the typically loud and agreeable Chrono was absent.

“Chrono?” She couldn’t help but glance back.

“Huh? What did you just say?”

Chrono jolted awake, looking like he had just emerged from a deep slumber.

“….”

Onora’s expression barely changed. She turned her head and said, “Never mind, go gather the Soldiers to carry out my plan.”

She repeated her plan again, and Chrono seriously nodded this time.

Chrono was the only person Onora could patiently explain a task to while angry; she was relatively tolerant of her best fighter.

Usually, when Onora made a proposal, Chrono would rush to execute it without hesitation.

This time, however, he hesitated before saying, “Lady Onora, the war is finally over. The Soldiers deserve some rest. I can create the firebreak myself quickly; let me go with you instead.”

Onora’s eyes flickered with surprise, but she nodded and said, “Alright.”

Curiously, she vaguely felt something was off about Chrono’s words but chose not to investigate further out of trust in her subordinate.

The two advanced quickly along the path of the Mad Fire, surrounded by a Purgatory-like scene, with burning trees and scorched corpses, and Soldiers screaming in despair amidst the flames, akin to despair burners.

Chrono worked diligently, even cutting down trees beyond the firebreak, allowing burning sections consumed by Mad Fire to fall into the swamp or Abyss.

Mad Fire didn’t extinguish upon entering the swamp, continuing to burn with reduced intensity, but when it reached the Abyss, both forces clashed and wore each other down, resulting in the Abyss successfully submerging and extinguishing the flames.

Onora watched this with a pleased expression.

She observed the hardworking Chrono, despite his uncharacteristic silence, with admiration.

It seemed Chrono had finally matured, and perhaps it was time to reward him more.

Onora’s feelings towards Chrono were akin to a Pokemon raised at home finally learning to venture out and battle, filled with a sense of gratification.

The firebreak was quickly and thoroughly cleared.

Thanks to Chrono’s efficiency, higher than nuclear-powered cattle, and Fran Fort’s ever-present Abyss, the firebreak successfully halted the spread of Mad Fire.

Half of Fran Fort still twisted into Ash amidst yellow flames.

Onora watched, her hatred for the Mad Fire God Sect growing deeper, determined to wipe out those lunatic bastards entirely!

But at that moment, her steps suddenly halted.

They’d reached the most crucial part of the firebreak, where the Abyss enveloped the area, blocking the Mad Fire consuming the trees on the other side completely.

An ordinary person here might be tempted to dive into the Abyss, mesmerized by its allure before even witnessing the Mad Fire’s insanity.

But Onora was unaffected, standing at the Abyss’s edge, feeling a complete sense of joy.

If the forest across didn’t hide ambushes from Mad Fire Cultists, she’d be even happier.

In her sight, the burning Mad Fire clearly revealed several Demon Clan figures, akin to a noble like her perceiving them as if having X-ray vision.

Unexpectedly, remnants of Mad Fire Cultists remained.

Good, she could vent her fury on them.

Onora displayed a cruel smile, slowly raising her hand, seemingly ready to unleash a powerful attack on them, sending the Cultists to meet their beloved Mad Fire God.

“Hmph hmph ha aaahh—”

Suddenly, a foul cry erupted from behind her, so outrageous that it startled her.
