White Dragon Lord
Chapter 393: Confrontation
A High-Tier Legendary red dragon stepped forward, raising its head high to glare at the White Dragon Lord.
"Lord Amos, based on your arrangements, you've appointed yourself the leader of these Allied Forces, haven't you?"
The White Dragon Lord raised a brow. Before he could speak, the Ancient Gold Dragon beat him to it, rebuking the red dragon.
"If Amos isn't the leader, then who? You? What qualifications do you have? In terms of contribution, Amos brought a precious Floating Tower to win this war! In terms of effort, Amos mobilized 500,000 Murlocs from his own territory to blockade the coast and monitor the Titans! In terms of leadership, Amos has led us all the way from the Muxinge Plane to where we are now!"
"I admit everything you say is true, but we are Chromatic Dragons! Not you Metallic Dragons!"
The red dragon glared back at the Ancient Gold Dragon.
"We Chromatic Dragons have always respected strength above all else. Whoever is the strongest gives the orders."
"Whether Chromatic Dragons or Metallic Dragons, we are all of the Dragon Race! All children of Io!"
A flash of anger crossed the White Dragon Lord's eyes. Fighting over leadership was normal—everyone had their own selfish motives—but stirring up internal division on the eve of a major battle crossed the line.
Catching the cold gazes of the numerous Metallic Dragons, the red dragon realized its slip of the tongue. But having ridden the tiger this far, it was impossible to dismount; it could only double down.Radiating battle intent, the red dragon locked eyes with the White Dragon Lord.
"I, Wings of the Scorching Sky, am confident I am stronger than you. I challenge you for command of the dragon army."
"I have no idea where you found the confidence to challenge a High-Tier Legendary Mage sitting in a Floating Tower."
With a thought from the White Dragon Lord, the massive magical crystal at the peak of the White Tower pulsed with intense magical fluctuations as the Metamagic Railgun began to charge.
Sensing the lethal threat of the Metamagic Railgun, Wings of the Scorching Sky stepped back in alarm.
"This is cheating! Who uses a Floating Tower in a duel?!"
"Cheating? Ridiculous."
The White Dragon Lord raised a claw, its sharp talons gleaming with a frigid light.
"Is there any difference between the Floating Tower and my claws? They both belong to me. They are both part of my strength. Is utilizing my own power considered cheating?"
Wings of the Scorching Sky was rendered speechless by the retort, yet remained completely unconvinced, glaring indignantly at the White Dragon Lord.
Seeing this, the White Dragon Lord let out a mocking laugh.
"Very well! You look dissatisfied! Then I will thoroughly convince you!"
The power of the White Dragon Lord's avatar was only at the standard High-Tier Legendary Rank tier. If his avatar were to face a High-Tier Legendary red dragon alone, he might actually end up capsizing in a ditch.
In Blackrock Fortress, the White Dragon Lord's true body received the news and frowned. If they weren't in the Abyss right now, he would have teleported over immediately.
"What a troublesome avatar, making a mess for me at a time like this."
After grumbling a few words, the White Dragon Lord took action.
Soul Transfer!
Soul Transfer was a unique ability connecting the White Dragon Lord's true body and his avatar, allowing his soul to instantly shift to the avatar, and vice versa. This was originally his trump card for investigating the plane where the Winter Crown was located, but he hadn't expected to use it first just to handle a challenge from his own kind.
In less than a heartbeat, the White Dragon Lord's soul transferred into the avatar.
The avatar opened its eyes, a sharp gleam flashing within them. Wings of the Scorching Sky suddenly felt as if the White Dragon Lord had been replaced by a completely different dragon. The aura rolling off him surged wildly, reaching the absolute peak of the High-Tier Legendary Rank. The numerous High-Tier Legendary Dragons were inwardly startled.
The White Dragon Lord flexed his claws, familiarizing himself with the new body.
The avatar's physical form was still a bit weak, but it was more than enough to deal with this hothead.
Thinking this, the White Dragon Lord lifted his head and looked at Wings of the Scorching Sky. At the exact same moment, his surging dragon might erupted in all directions. Even though they were of the same Dragon Race, the ordinary dragons still felt an unbearable pressure. Wings of the Scorching Sky looked as if it had just seen a ghost.
"Are you the one challenging me?!"
Watching the show from the sidelines, the King of the Thunder Prison reacted to this, realizing this had to be some special ability linking the main body and the avatar, capable of instantaneously transferring the main body's power.
"Wings of the Scorching Sky! You should just surrender! You probably don't even know who you're challenging!"
The red dragon flew into a humiliated rage.
"Save your sarcasm! Who else could it be?! Isn't he just..."
Prompted by the King of the Thunder Prison's warning, Wings of the Scorching Sky suddenly recalled a white dragon that had recently stolen the limelight on the Blood War Battlefield. That white dragon, who had breached several Demon fortresses and slaughtered a number of illustrious High-Tier Legendary Demon lords, was also apparently named Amos.
At this realization, Wings of the Scorching Sky's heart lurched.
One had to understand that any High-Tier Demon capable of securing a Demon lord position on the frontlines of the blood war was a powerhouse who had clawed their way up from among countless High-Tier Legendary Demons. In other words, Demon lords were the absolute best of the High-Tier Legendary Demons, yet this being had managed to slay several of them.
"Hey! Are you still going to fight or not?!"
The White Dragon Lord looked at Wings of the Scorching Sky, then swept his gaze across the many High-Tier Legendary Dragons present. Among all of them, only the Black King and the Breath of Extinction left the White Dragon Lord without absolute certainty of victory.
As Wings of the Scorching Sky stood frozen in a dilemma, the Breath of Extinction stood up.
"Cough, cough, cough. Lord Amos, your military arrangements are impeccable. I am willing to place my faith in your talents and accept your command."
Flame of the Molten Mountain chimed in. "Although I don't really like you, I have to admit you are the dragon most likely to lead us to victory."
The Matron of Venom bowed gracefully.
"Her Majesty the Dragon Queen trusts you deeply."
The White Dragon Lord raised an eyebrow. The Matron of Venom's words revealed a great deal of information, but it didn't exceed his expectations.
The focal point of the myriad planes—the Blood War Battlefield—was naturally a place to build a reputation. Having made a name for himself there, it would have been harder for the White Dragon Lord not to draw Tiamat's attention.
"..."
While the dragons spoke, Wings of the Scorching Sky quietly slipped back into the ranks. No other dragon stepped forward to challenge the White Dragon Lord's authority.
The White Dragon Lord surveyed the dead-silent crowd of dragons.
"Thank you for your trust. I cannot guarantee much else, but I swear to do everything in my power to seize the crown of victory for the Dragon Race!"
"Victory to the Dragon Race!"
His magically amplified voice echoed across the gathering. The martial intent and unwavering conviction in the White Dragon Lord's words infected the others. Thrilled, the dragons tilted their heads back and roared, their many voices ultimately merging into a single cry—Victory to the Dragon Race!
"Victory to the Dragon Race!"
"Victory to the Dragon Race!"
The enraged roars of the dragon pack pierced the clouds, a deafening battle cry that shook the heavens.
...
On the other side, the High-Tier Legendary Titans who had answered the call of the God of the Dark Titans to support their kin gathered within the Floating Tower of the Mother of Lightning. Astraeus's High-Tier Legendary priest—the Power of Dark Erosion—had seized command of the Titan army.
Exactly as the White Dragon Lord had predicted, the Titans had been continuously monitoring the chaotic coastal skirmishes. They were planning a sudden offensive to encircle the dragons engaged in the melee, aiming to lure even more dragons to their aid and drag the Dragon Race into a war of endless attrition.
"Hmph! The dragons have a cunning leader on their side! They've all retreated!"
"Damn it! Where exactly did our plan go wrong?!"
"We scoured the area for magic surveillance and wiped it clean!"
"..."
Perhaps the Titans would never know that the spies planted by the White Dragon Lord were right outside their city, boldly operating right in front of their eyes.
The Sincaro Titan World also contained lower-level monsters like gnolls and kobolds. The White Dragon Lord had simply used Portals to import some common monster civilians, instructing them to blend in with the local natives. They hung around major thoroughfares and city perimeters, keeping a close watch on the Titans' movements.
The White Dragon Lord's strategy was a resounding success. Much like humans paid no mind to ants on the ground, the Titans completely ignored these weak, savage creatures.
"Forget it! Right now, the Titan Race holds the numerical advantage! We'll crush them with absolute power! Victory to the Titans!"
"Victory to the Titans!"
"For the glory of the Titans!"
...
Inside the White Tower, the White Dragon Lord spotted a Floating Tower approaching in the distance. The structure made no effort to conceal itself, advancing openly into the dragons' line of sight.
This was the Mother of Lightning's Floating Tower, and trailing behind it was a massive army of Titans. The White Dragon Lord's gaze turned heavy.
"They finally couldn't sit still anymore!"
After securing command of the dragon army, the White Dragon Lord, out of an abundance of caution, had ordered the dragons to avoid the coastal areas entirely.
Time was on the dragons' side. The total numbers of dragons and Titans within the Evil Scale Fortress and the Gloomy Sanctuary were roughly equal, as were the numbers rushing to provide support. However, due to the dragons' limited number of Teleportation Platforms, their current reinforcements were fewer than the Titans'.
The White Dragon Lord compared their forces. There were currently nearly 10,000 dragons inside the White Tower, while the Titan army numbered between 13,000 and 15,000.
The situation was far from optimistic!
The White Dragon Lord could see the Titans, but the Titans couldn't see the cloaked White Tower.
Under his watchful eye, two detachments split off from the main Titan army, consisting of two different Titan sub-races.
One comprised pale-blue-skinned Storm Titans. Their upper halves resembled bare-chested humans, while their lower halves were composed of swirling miniature tornadoes. They wielded Spears of the Titans shaped from violent air currents.
The other detachment consisted of dark-green-skinned Tide Titans. Their most prominent features were their seaweed-like hair and the thick, lip-covering beards that came as standard. They gripped Spears of the Titans condensed from rushing water.
The Storm Titans took to the sky, spreading out into a net-like formation to conduct a carpet search of the land below, while the Tide Titans marched into the ocean, vanishing from the White Dragon Lord's sight.
Just like the dragons, the Titans organized themselves by sub-race. The dragons weren't surprised by this; large-scale clashes between dragons and Titans had been fought this way since ancient times.
"Everyone! Let the battle begin! Don't let the Titans look down on us!"
With the Titans fully on guard, launching a sneak attack with the cloaking array was impossible. The White Dragon Lord simply deactivated the stealth spell entirely and steered the White Tower higher into the sky. Dragons of every color came pouring out of the citadel.
The massive Flame of the Molten Mountain led the red dragon flight to the very front, followed closely by the Black King leading the black dragons. The King of the Thunder Prison guided the blue dragons through the air between the reds and the blacks. Green dragons circled the base of the White Tower, while the white dragons hovered at a low altitude not far above the sea.
Meanwhile, the numerous High-Tier Legendary Dragons remained inside the White Tower alongside the White Dragon Lord, watching the distant Titans.
As the dragons adjusted their formations, the Titans did the same.
Most of the Titans touched down on the ground. The cyan-skinned Rock Titans took the vanguard; boasting astonishing defense, they had always formed the indomitable bulwark of the Titan Race.
The Thunder Titans positioned themselves behind the Rock Titans. Crackling with arcs of lightning, they wielded Spears of the Titans forged from solid thunderbolts. Their spears were the fastest and most devastating of all, making the Thunder Titans the historic main force of the Titan armies.
The Storm Titans flew through the sky in erratic, unpredictable trajectories; they were the agile warriors.
The Tide Titans stepped into the sea and disappeared. Possessing the unique ability to merge with seawater, the ocean was their absolute home ground.
Seeing the Tide Titans vanish at the shoreline, the White Dragon Lord ordered the white dragons to unleash their Dragon Breath upon the ocean. Over a thousand white dragons exhaled as one, turning the surface of the sea into a stage veiled in a fog of dry ice.
Fierce, freezing air sealed the seawater in ice, layer upon layer, completely severing any chance of the Tide Titans launching a surprise attack from beneath the waves.
Though the two great races had yet to formally clash, their commanders had already begun a battle of wits.
The two armies confronted each other, neither willing to make the first move.
With fewer dragons than Titans, the White Dragon Lord couldn't order his forces to charge onto the continent for a head-on collision. Doing so would mean abandoning the dragons' absolute superiority in aerial combat.
The Titan commander also thoroughly understood their respective strengths and weaknesses. Aside from the Storm Titans, none of their forces could match the dragons in the air. Thus, forcing the battle on the ground was their ideal scenario.
"Udyr Sighing Wind, these dragons need a little stimulation!"
Beside the Power of Dark Erosion, the corner of a High-Tier Legendary Storm Titan's mouth curled up.
"Understood!"
Udyr Sighing Wind flew out of the Floating Tower, soaring past the Storm Titan ranks and heading straight for the dragon camp.
Maintaining a safe distance, Udyr Sighing Wind cast a sound-amplifying spell on himself.
"You damned chromatic lizards! You go around shooting your mouths off about how dragons are the strongest race in the multiverse? Bah, I spit on that!"
Mockingly, Udyr Sighing Wind raised a pinky finger.
"As far as I'm concerned, you're just a bunch of @#¥%...&*!"
However, the White Dragon Lord had cast a massive soundproofing barrier the moment Udyr Sighing Wind made his move. Therefore, in the eyes of the dragons, Udyr Sighing Wind looked exactly like a clown performing a pantomime, striking ridiculous poses in midair.
Although he couldn't hear a word, Udyr Sighing Wind's thoroughly punchable expression and mocking gestures still rubbed the White Dragon Lord the wrong way.
"Everyone, when the battle starts, if there's an opening, butcher this guy first!"
The High-Tier Legendary Dragons nodded in agreement.
Udyr Sighing Wind cursed until his mouth was completely dry, yet the dragons didn't react at all; a few of them were even yawning. The Storm Titan couldn't help but doubt his own taunting skills, flying back to the Titan Floating Tower with a dark, sullen expression.
"Lord, I failed. These dragons didn't react at all."
