Chapter 227 -223: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 34
“Why would you suddenly say that?”
Ji Xiaosong feigned shock, but she was actually trying to figure out how to move past this topic.
If Dai Lixing insisted on digging into it, she really had no idea what excuse she could use to fob him off.
“I just found out. Sui An is my son. Song Song, you’ve had it hard all this time. I don’t know why I have no memory of you or him, but whatever the reason, it must be my fault. I failed to take care of you, leaving you to live alone on this planet.”
Dai Lixing’s eyes instantly reddened. He slowly knelt down, gripping Ji Xiaosong’s hands tightly, his voice filled with regret and self-blame:
“Song Song, I was so wrong, unforgivably so. When you needed me most, I was like a blind and deaf man, completely ignoring you and Sui An. All these years, all the hardships you’ve suffered and the pain you’ve endured on Wa Star—it’s all my fault. I hate myself. How could I have lost the most important people in my life?”
His body trembled slightly, and his tone was nearly a sob, as if he were trying to make up for years of absent companionship and care with words alone.
‘You… you don’t have to go that far.’
Ji Xiaosong looked at Dai Lixing’s state, a mix of complicated feelings swirling within her. She turned her head away slightly.
‘He’s being so humble… it’s making me look like the bad guy.’
‘Ah!’
‘I can’t lose my momentum, or what will I do if he finds out what I did in the past?’
She tried her best to make her tone sound proud and cold. “Hmph. What’s the use of saying all this now? So many years have passed. You think a few apologies can make up for everything?”
Dai Lixing looked up, his eyes filled with anticipation and urgency. “Song Song, I know apologies are far from enough. From now on, I’ll prove it with my actions. I want to take care of you myself, to shield you from all harm, and I’ll never let you suffer the slightest grievance again. For Sui An’s sake, please, give me one more chance.”
He stared at Ji Xiaosong intently, as if trying to see right through her with his gaze.
Ji Xiaosong bit her lower lip. After a moment of silence, she let out a soft “Mm,” her voice as quiet as a mosquito’s buzz.
“Well… alright then. For Sui An’s sake, I’ll reluctantly forgive you this once.”
Hearing this, Dai Lixing’s eyes instantly lit up like stars. An unprecedentedly brilliant smile bloomed on his face, a smile that seemed capable of dispelling all the gloom in the world.
“Song Song, you have no idea how happy I am!”
Dai Lixing shot to his feet, wrapped his arms tightly around Ji Xiaosong, and lifted her clean off the ground, spinning her around several times on the spot.
Startled by his sudden action, Ji Xiaosong instinctively threw her arms around his neck and chided, “What are you doing? Put me down!”
But Dai Lixing paid no heed to her request. He kept spinning as he shouted excitedly, “I, Dai Lixing, finally have you back! I want the entire universe to know that Song Song has forgiven me! Our family of three is going to be together!”
After a few more spins, Dai Lixing finally set Ji Xiaosong down gently. Cupping her face in his hands, he said earnestly, “Song Song, since you’ve forgiven me, let’s get married. I want to give you and Sui An a complete home, one that’s open and blessed by everyone. I want to make you the happiest bride in the universe.”
His gaze was fiery and resolute, filled with longing for the future.
“Isn’t this a little too fast?”
Ji Xiaosong turned her face away, trying to appear calm.
Dai Lixing’s hands trembled slightly. He gently turned Ji Xiaosong’s face back to meet his gaze, his eyes full of unquestionable determination:
“Song Song, it’s not fast at all. The moment I learned Sui An was my son, I wanted to announce to the whole universe that you are my family. I’ve missed so much over the years—I missed your pregnancy, I missed Sui An’s birth, I missed every moment of him growing up. I don’t want to miss another single minute or second with you.”
His voice trembled slightly, filled with deep longing and urgency.
“I know marriage isn’t a game, but we’ve already wasted so much time.”
Dai Lixing knelt on one knee and pulled a medal from his pocket.
“This is the most precious thing I carry with me, and it’s also proof of my identity. Consider it my proposal gift to you. I will arrange the grandest wedding in the shortest possible time and invite all the important figures in the galaxy to witness our happiness.”
He held Ji Xiaosong’s hand tightly, as if afraid she would disappear in the next second.
“Song Song, we can’t wait any longer. I want you and Sui An to stand by my side openly, enjoying the honor and happiness you deserve.”
Dai Lixing stood up, gently placed the medal in Ji Xiaosong’s palm, and then pulled her into another tight embrace.
“Well…”
Before Ji Xiaosong could say anything more, Dai Lixing grew terrified she was about to refuse.
“Don’t refuse me, Song Song.”
“Sigh! I was just going to say, ‘Alright, then.'”
When Dai Lixing heard Ji Xiaosong agree, he froze on the spot, as if he couldn’t believe his ears.
The next second, he abruptly pulled Ji Xiaosong into his arms again, his embrace so tight it felt as if he were trying to merge her into his very being.
“Song Song, you really agreed!”
His voice was thick and nasal, full of the relief of someone who had survived a catastrophe.
“Yes, I agreed. But don’t hug me so tight. You’re squeezing the air out of me.”
Hearing her words, Dai Lixing instantly let go as if he’d been shocked. His hands fidgeted awkwardly at his sides, his face full of chagrin and self-reproach.
“S-Sorry, Song Song.”
His voice trembled slightly, and his eyes were filled with panic. He looked just like a child who had accidentally caused a disaster. “I… I was just so happy, I lost control for a moment. Did I hurt you?”
As he spoke, he cautiously studied Ji Xiaosong’s expression, afraid she might be angry at his recklessness.
He took a small step back, nervously clutching the hem of his clothes, his head slightly bowed. He muttered under his breath, “How could I be so stupid? You finally agreed, and I almost made you unhappy again. I’m really…”
The more he spoke, the more agitated he became. His eyes reddened again, as if he were utterly disappointed in his own behavior.
“Song Song, please don’t be angry. I’ll be careful from now on. I’ll never be so reckless again.”
Dai Lixing looked up, his eyes full of sincerity and determination. “I promise, I will treat you and Sui An gently from now on. I won’t let you suffer even the slightest grievance.”
He took a step forward and gently took Ji Xiaosong’s hand, his voice tinged with a pleading tone. “Please believe me, okay?”
“I believe you. But you don’t have to be so insecure. Since I’ve already agreed, I’m not going to just leave. You go ahead and make your arrangements. I’ll cooperate.”
Ji Xiaosong looked at the man before her. Normally, he was a decisive person whose word was law—otherwise, he never would have become an interstellar marshal.
But in front of her, he was always so cautious and timid.
“So… Song Song, are you willing to come to the Main Star with me?”
