Chapter 226 -222: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 33

And so, Dai Lixing continued to stay at Ji Xiaosong’s home. The more time he spent with her, the more suspicious he grew about Ji Sui’an’s parentage.

Seizing an opportunity, Dai Lixing sent a sample of his and Ji Sui’an’s DNA to Xiao Li.

Upon receiving Dai Lixing’s directive, a look of knowing comprehension flashed in Attendant Officer Xiao Li’s eyes. ‘Just as I thought.’

He had previously noted the Marshal’s extraordinary interest in Ji Xiaosong’s livestream and sensed something was off when the Marshal sent her a gift. Combined with the subtle resemblance between Ji Sui’an’s features and the Marshal’s, he had long held his own suspicions.

Now, seeing the Marshal ask him to investigate their genetic relationship, his initial surprise was gone. He quickly stood at attention before the holographic screen, his tone resolute. “Marshal, I understand. I guarantee I will complete the mission and keep this strictly confidential.”

Dai Lixing gave a slight nod, his usual cold and imposing aura instantly enveloping him.

He straightened his back, his gaze as sharp as a falcon’s. His voice was deep, carrying the oppressive weight of a superior. “This matter is of the utmost importance. If even a shred of it is leaked, I will hold you solely responsible.”

Xiao Li saluted again before quickly departing to carry out the secret mission.

Once Xiao Li had left, Dai Lixing reverted to the gentle and cautious demeanor he maintained in Ji Xiaosong’s home.

He tiptoed into the room and saw Ji Xiaosong sitting in a rocking chair, humming a soft tune to lull Ji Sui’an to sleep. Warm, yellow light spilled over them, outlining a cozy silhouette.

Dai Lixing’s heart instantly melted into a puddle. He drew near, softening his steps, and knelt down. Gazing at Ji Sui’an, the corners of his mouth turned up unconsciously in a doting smile. “Little Sui An is sleeping so soundly.”

Ji Xiaosong glanced up at him and nodded slightly, her fingers gently stroking Ji Sui’an’s cheek.

“Of course he is. This child has been so well-behaved ever since I was pregnant with him. I’ve heard many babies can’t sleep on their own after they’re born and need to be held by an adult every day. Sui An has never been like that. When he’s tired, he sleeps, and when he’s hungry, he just whimpers a little.”

Dai Lixing listened intently from the side, afraid of missing a single detail about Ji Sui’an’s growth.

Ji Xiaosong continued in a soft voice, “And when Sui An opened his eyes for the first time, they were wide and round as he curiously sized up the world. You can’t imagine how adorable he looked.”

Dai Lixing was captivated, nodding from time to time as his gentle gaze remained fixed on Ji Sui’an.

Just then, the communicator on Dai Lixing’s wrist vibrated faintly. His heart lurched. Without even looking, he knew it was most likely a message from Xiao Li.

He forced himself to remain calm, trying to keep his expression natural, but his eyes drifted involuntarily toward the communicator.

Ji Xiaosong was lost in her memories of Ji Sui’an and didn’t notice anything unusual about Dai Lixing.

“Miss Ji, I just remembered I have some urgent military documents to handle. I may have to step into the other room for a moment. I’ll be right back.”

He did his best to make his tone sound level, betraying no hint of what was happening.

Ji Xiaosong looked up, a flicker of confusion in her eyes, but she still nodded. “Alright, go ahead.”

Dai Lixing stood up, deliberately treading lightly so as not to disturb the sleeping Ji Sui’an. Then he walked briskly into the adjacent room and gently closed the door.

He quickly activated his communicator, and a holographic image of Xiao Li appeared before him.

“Marshal, the genetic test results are in. The similarity is as high as 99.9%. Ji Sui’an is indeed your biological son.”

Xiao Li’s voice was low and solemn.

Dai Lixing’s body jolted. Although he had long suspected it, he was still overcome with ecstasy the moment the truth was confirmed.

“Are you sure there were no mistakes? Was the testing process rigorous?”

he asked urgently, his voice trembling slightly.

Xiao Li stood at attention, his tone firm. “Marshal, I personally supervised the entire testing procedure. We used the most advanced and precise equipment available. The results are absolutely correct. Furthermore, I cross-referenced them three times before daring to report to you.”

Dai Lixing took a deep breath, trying to calm the turbulent waves of emotion crashing within him.

His gaze wandered around the room before finally landing on the closed door. On the other side of it, images of Ji Xiaosong and Ji Sui’an flickered through his mind.

Every fiber of his being was screaming for him to rush out and tell Ji Xiaosong, to tell the whole world, this incredible news.

‘He, Dai Lixing, had a son!’

But reason was like a heavy shackle, holding him firmly in place.

‘His previous attempts to probe the subject had made him realize that Ji Xiaosong was extremely secretive about the child’s father. If he rashly revealed the truth and angered her, causing her to shut him out again, what would he do?’

Dai Lixing’s hands clenched unconsciously, his knuckles turning white from the force.

He paced back and forth in the room, each step heavy, as if trying to stomp his inner conflict and turmoil into the floor.

After a long while, he slowly opened the door and returned to the room where Ji Xiaosong was.

Ji Xiaosong was still sitting in the rocking chair, gazing tenderly at Ji Sui’an, seemingly unaware of the inner turmoil Dai Lixing had just experienced.

Dai Lixing walked to her side and knelt slightly, looking at Ji Sui’an. “Song Song,” he said softly, “Sui An is just so adorable.”

He had deliberately changed his form of address from “Miss Ji” to “Song Song,” his voice carrying a subtle, probing tone.

Hearing this intimate address, Ji Xiaosong’s body stiffened slightly. A complex emotion flickered in her eyes, but she didn’t correct him.

Catching this subtle change, Dai Lixing felt a secret thrill. ‘Does this mean Ji Xiaosong is slowly starting to accept me?’

His heartbeat suddenly quickened, and his voice trembled slightly with excitement. “Song Song, I feel so happy being here with you two.”

In the next instant, however, his joy was replaced by a deep-seated anxiety.

He looked at Ji Xiaosong, wondering to himself, ‘What on earth did I do in the past to make her take our child and go into hiding, unwilling to acknowledge me?’

This unknown transgression weighed on his heart like a giant boulder.

His eyes filled with self-blame and regret as he said slowly, “Song Song, I know I must have done many things wrong in the past to make you and Sui An suffer so much. I truly regret it. Can you please tell me what I did wrong? I’ll change, I promise. Okay?”

At this moment, his tone was almost pleading, completely devoid of the authority and pride he usually carried as an interstellar marshal.

Ji Xiaosong lifted her head, her gaze meeting Dai Lixing’s.

Her expression was calm, but inwardly, she was screaming frantically.

She sent a message to Rongrong with her Divine Sense: ‘Rongrong, AHHHH! Why is Dai Lixing suddenly asking something like that? Does he know something?!’

Rongrong was floating in the air. She had seen everything Dai Lixing and Xiao Li had said and done just now, so of course she knew why Dai Lixing had suddenly changed his attitude and said such things.

“Dai Lixing already knows Sui An is his son.”

“How does he know?”

Ji Xiaosong froze. ‘How did he find out all of a sudden?’

‘What on earth was Dai Lixing doing in there just now?’

‘Oh well. Since he already knows, there’s no point in struggling anymore.’

‘After all… Dai Lixing didn’t actually do anything wrong, did he?’

Looking at the sincerity and urgency in Dai Lixing’s eyes, the defenses around her heart seemed to crumble just a little.
