Chapter 225 -221: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 32
As Dai Lixing spoke, his gaze drifted unconsciously to the sofa, as if that were where he was supposed to go.
‘What the hell? How could I even think that?!’
Seeing his expression, Ji Xiaosong was reminded of his previous visits to her little cottage and couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.
“Marshal, I’m not really going to make you sleep on the sofa.”
She pointed to the new room next to the master bedroom. “Here, that room was prepared for Sui An. Since you want to stay and protect us, you can stay there for the time being.”
Hearing this, Dai Lixing’s heart skipped a beat. He looked at the room Ji Xiaosong was pointing to in disbelief, his gaze lingering on the closed door for a long time.
“Is it… really okay?”
He heard the slight tremble in his own voice.
‘Ji Xiaosong is letting me stay in Ji Sui’an’s room. Does this mean she’s willing to give me a chance to get closer?’
He had been anxious when she asked him to stay and prune the wisteria earlier.
But now that she was letting him sleep here, the implication was self-evident.
As an interstellar marshal who commanded vast armies on the battlefield, he had always been decisive and confident. Yet, standing before Ji Xiaosong now, he was like a flustered teenager at a complete loss.
His gaze fell on Ji Xiaosong’s face again as he tried to find any hint of a joke in her expression. But all he saw was her usual calm, yet distant, look.
Dai Lixing secretly clenched his fists, his nails nearly digging into his palms. He desperately suppressed the surging emotions within him, afraid that one wrong move would expose all the joy and anticipation in his heart.
“Then… thank you.”
He forced the words out, his voice as dry as a desert wind.
Only after speaking did he realize he couldn’t even manage a complete and proper thank-you, and a wave of frustration washed over him.
Watching his tense but composed demeanor, Ji Xiaosong felt a ripple in her heart.
‘This dashing man, a formidable figure across the interstellar expanse, is being so cautious in front of me now.’
She turned her head slightly to hide the fleeting smile in her eyes and said, “It’s getting late. You’ve traveled a long way to get here, so you should get some rest.”
With that, she picked up Ji Sui’an from his crib and turned toward the master bedroom.
Dai Lixing watched Ji Xiaosong’s retreating figure, his feet seemingly nailed to the floor, unable to move for a long time.
Only when the master bedroom door clicked shut did he seem to wake from a dream, slowly walking toward the room prepared for him.
He pushed open the door. The room was filled with the faint scent of milk mixed with a unique fragrance that belonged only to Ji Xiaosong. It was a warm yet unfamiliar smell that instantly enveloped him.
He walked into the room, sat gently on the edge of the bed, and covered his face with his hands, trying to calm his wildly beating heart.
He kept telling himself that this was just a temporary place to stay, but deep down, he secretly hoped he could remain here longer, that he could grow closer to Ji Xiaosong and Ji Sui’an.
Even though he knew Ji Xiaosong might be hiding countless secrets, that she might still be wary of him, he was willing to fall deeper, willing to be humbled to the dust for this inexplicable sense of closeness.
In the quiet night, Dai Lixing lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. His thoughts drifted, his mind filled with images of Ji Xiaosong and Ji Sui’an, and he tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
*
The next morning, Dai Lixing woke up early. Ji Xiaosong and Ji Sui’an were not yet awake.
Ji Sui’an was just a month-old baby and slept a lot.
To take care of him, Ji Xiaosong’s sleep schedule was almost perfectly synced with his.
Dai Lixing took a stroll around the vegetable garden and handled a few meetings before Ji Xiaosong finally emerged from the master bedroom, holding Ji Sui’an.
He heard the sound of the master bedroom door, and his head snapped up, his gaze locking onto Ji Xiaosong and Ji Sui’an.
The moment he saw the mother and son, the corners of his lips curled up uncontrollably into a gentle, doting smile that seemed capable of scattering the morning mist and brightening the entire courtyard.
“Morning. You’re finally up.”
Dai Lixing said as he quickly walked to Ji Xiaosong’s side, his eyes never leaving Ji Sui’an.
The little one was waving his tiny hands and cooing, as if greeting Dai Lixing.
Dai Lixing looked at Ji Sui’an, his eyes filled with affection. He reached out and gently touched Ji Sui’an’s small hand, making the little one giggle.
“I picked some fruit and vegetables from the garden and put them in the kitchen after washing them.”
Dai Lixing scratched his head, looking a little awkward. “Uh… I’m not very good at cooking, so I thought I’d just get these ready to see if I could help. Miss Ji, if you don’t mind, could you teach me how to cook? I want to learn to make something for you two.”
His voice grew softer toward the end, laced with a hint of subtle anticipation.
Ji Xiaosong was slightly taken aback. Seeing Dai Lixing’s earnest and nervous expression, she felt a strange sensation welling up inside her.
‘She never would have imagined that the great interstellar marshal would be so flustered over not knowing how to cook.’
She cleared her throat to hide the turmoil in her heart and said, “Cooking isn’t that hard; I don’t mind teaching you. But the Marshal is incredibly busy. Are you sure you have time to learn this?”
The corners of her lips tilted up with a hint of teasing.
Dai Lixing nodded eagerly, his tone firm. “I have time. As long as it’s for you two, I’ll definitely make time.”
The moment he said it, he felt he had been too forward and grew annoyed with himself.
But Ji Xiaosong didn’t seem to mind. She carried Ji Sui’an into the kitchen, with Dai Lixing following closely behind her.
Ji Xiaosong placed Ji Sui’an in a nearby baby chair, then turned, picked up a piece of fruit, and began explaining the washing and preparation steps to Dai Lixing.
Dai Lixing listened intently, his eyes fixed on Ji Xiaosong’s every move, asking a few questions from time to time.
During this process, they stood very close. Dai Lixing could even smell the faint fragrance on her, and his heart once again began to beat uncontrollably fast.
When Ji Xiaosong occasionally looked up, she would meet Dai Lixing’s focused yet slightly nervous gaze. She would turn her head away slightly, sighing to herself. ‘This man, who wields immense power across the stars, is like a child yearning for approval now that he’s by my side.’
Dai Lixing, however, was completely unaware of all this.
‘He had thought about it seriously last night. This time, seeing Ji Xiaosong, he knew he genuinely liked her.’
‘He liked her so much that he was willing to accept her child, even if it wasn’t his.’
‘As long as…’
‘As long as Ji Xiaosong was willing to accept him.’
‘But… is Ji Sui’an really not my child?’
For some reason, the more Dai Lixing looked at the child, the more this question grew in his mind.
