Chapter 224: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 31
Chapter 224 -220: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 31
Holding Ji Sui’an, Dai Lixing unconsciously paced around the room several times until Ji Xiaosong reminded him, “You should put the baby back in his crib. It’s time to eat.”
He snapped out of his daze and carefully placed Ji Sui’an back in the crib. He even gently tucked in the blanket, looking as if he were guarding a priceless treasure.
Ji Xiaosong pushed the crib into the dining room and sat down at the table. It was laden with steaming hot dishes, completely different from the cuisine on the Main Star, all giving off an enticing aroma.
After Dai Lixing sat down, his gaze kept drifting toward the crib, his thoughts still lingering on the adorable little one.
Ji Xiaosong saw what was on his mind and said with a smile, “Don’t worry. He’s very well-behaved. He can play by himself while we eat. He won’t cry and fuss the whole time.”
Dai Lixing picked up his bowl and chopsticks, but his mind was elsewhere.
After a long moment of hesitation, he finally mustered up the courage to ask, “Xiaosong, Sui An’s father… what kind of person is he?”
As he asked, his heart suddenly began to race. He stared intently at Ji Xiaosong, afraid he might miss the slightest change in her expression.
Hearing his question, the chopsticks in Ji Xiaosong’s hand trembled so violently they nearly fell.
She forced herself to remain calm, lowering her gaze to the food before her. A thousand possible answers flashed through her mind, but none of them felt right.
After a brief silence, she looked up at Dai Lixing, managed a faint smile, and said, “Him? He was a great man.”
‘Out of all the answers I considered, this is the most fitting one,’ she thought. ‘After all, I don’t even know what I should say.’
‘I can’t just tell him he’s the father, can I?’
‘His memories were taken away. It would sound completely absurd if I told him.’
When Dai Lixing saw her complex expression and the flash of melancholy in her eyes, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of bitterness.
‘I thought the boy’s father might have died, maybe heroically in service to his country or something.’
He pressed on, “Does he know about Sui An?”
Ji Xiaosong’s heart tightened, but her expression remained calm. She slowly shook her head. “He doesn’t know. And there’s no reason for him to.”
Dai Lixing opened his mouth, the words “I can take care of you both” almost tumbling out.
But the words died on his lips. He suddenly realized this was the first time they had truly met, and such an abrupt promise would likely just frighten her.
The words swirled on the tip of his tongue before he forced them back down.
He lowered his head slightly, pretending to be focused on his food, but in reality, his mind was in turmoil.
His gaze swept over Ji Xiaosong, and when he saw the flash of tension and defensiveness in her eyes, a sharp pang of pain shot through his heart.
‘What kind of past does she have that makes her so sensitive about the topic of her child’s father?’ Dai Lixing wondered.
‘And what could have happened to make her expression so complex whenever he’s mentioned?’
Silence stretched between them, broken only by the occasional gurgles and coos from Ji Sui’an in his crib, which did little to ease the tense atmosphere.
Dai Lixing forced himself to calm down, trying to find a more tactful way to express his intentions. “Miss Ji, life on Wa Star must be filled with inconveniences. If you run into any trouble, please don’t try to handle it all on your own. I know we’ve only just met, but… I really want to help you.”
His voice held a barely perceptible tremor, and his eyes were filled with sincerity and concern.
Ji Xiaosong looked up at him, a flicker of surprise in her eyes that was quickly replaced by her usual calm.
She nodded lightly and said softly, “Thank you for your kind offer, Marshal. But I’ve lived on Wa Star for a long time now. I’m used to it, and I can manage just fine.”
Her tone was polite but distant, as if she were deliberately keeping him at arm’s length.
Not willing to give up, Dai Lixing pressed on. “It looks like there’s a lot of farm work to do in this yard, and you also have a child to care for. It must be exhausting. I have plenty of All-Purpose Robots. If you need help tending the yard or a few extra hands to look after the baby, I can arrange it.”
As he spoke, he discreetly watched her reaction, afraid she would refuse him again.
Ji Xiaosong was taken aback. She had expected him to drop the subject, but he was surprisingly persistent.
Seeing the undeniable sincerity in his eyes, she hesitated for a moment, then lightly bit her lip and nodded. “In that case… thank you, Marshal.”
When Dai Lixing saw her agree, a look of delighted surprise flashed in his eyes, and a relieved smile spread across his face.
He hastily pulled out his communicator and contacted his Attendant Officer, his voice urgent yet tinged with joy. “Teleport ten All-Purpose Robots to Wa Star immediately. I’m sending you the coordinates now. Make it quick!”
With that, he quickly keyed in the commands and sent the specific coordinates for Wa Star.
Before long, a faint spatial ripple emanated through the air, and ten brand-new All-Purpose Robots materialized in the yard.
The robots had sleek designs, their metal shells glinting with a cold luster in the twilight, exuding an air of advanced technology.
Dai Lixing rose and walked to the window, pointing at the robots in the yard. He turned back to Ji Xiaosong and said, “These robots are fully equipped. They can expertly handle the farm work and precisely manage a child’s daily care. You can program them with commands to suit your needs.”
“Not bad, not bad at all.”
Ji Xiaosong took one look at them and started planning. ‘When I eventually leave this world, I should take a few of these robots with me.’
‘If I go to another world, a robot like this could help me with countless tasks.’
Seeing that Ji Xiaosong seemed pleased, Dai Lixing breathed a sigh of relief.
His gaze fell on Ji Sui’an, who was waving his little hands in the crib. He sighed, “It’s so hard raising a child alone. The father… how could he have the heart to leave you both.”
Ji Xiaosong followed his gaze to her son, her eyes filled with tenderness. “It’s alright. With Sui An by my side, life is quite fulfilling. Besides, what’s past is past. Right now, I just want to focus on taking good care of Sui An.”
‘This is so incredibly awkward,’ she thought. ‘I can’t even imagine the absolute disaster it’ll be if Dai Lixing ever finds out that Ji Sui’an is his son.’
Just then, one of the robots entered the dining room with light yet steady steps.
It gave a slight bow, its voice soft and natural. “Owner, please grant me a name.”
Ji Xiaosong thought for a moment. “Your name will be Ji Dan.”
‘This is my first All-Purpose Robot,’ she thought. ‘I’ll probably take it with me when I go.’
‘The character ‘Dan’ means birth, a beginning.’
“Thank you for my name, Owner. I have familiarized myself with the basic layout of this residence. From now on, I will be serving you both.”
With that, it expertly began clearing the dishes from the table, its movements fluid and seamless.
Dai Lixing looked at Ji Xiaosong and explained, “It has deep-learning and autonomous decision-making capabilities. It can adapt to different situations and needs to handle all sorts of tasks. Taking care of the baby, managing housework, farm labor—it can do it all.”
A flash of surprise crossed Ji Xiaosong’s eyes, followed by a deeper curiosity.
She watched Ji Dan’s every move. After placing the dishes in the kitchen’s smart cleaning unit, it quickly returned to the dining room, picked up a clean cloth, and began wiping the table.
As it worked, it automatically adjusted its wiping pressure and frequency based on the toughness of the stains. In no time, the table was sparkling clean.
Then, Ji Dan walked over to the crib and bent down, gently touching Ji Sui’an’s little hand with one finger. It said softly, “Hello, little one. From now on, I will be here to play with you and take care of you.”
Ji Sui’an seemed to be amused, and he let out a happy giggle.
“By the way, Miss Ji,” Dai Lixing asked, “where will I be staying tonight?”
