Chapter 223 -219: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 30

Ji Xiaosong lowered her gaze to hide her smile and turned toward the kitchen. “You can stay, but first, go prune the wisteria outside the courtyard.”

Dai Lixing immediately rose to his feet, but he staggered, having knelt for too long.

He watched Ji Xiaosong’s back disappear behind the wooden door. Looking down, he realized his palms were slick with sweat. Not even the military’s most classified documents had ever made him this nervous.

The evening breeze, laden with the aroma of braised pork, wafted across the courtyard. Dai Lixing took a deep breath and suddenly felt as if every speck of dust on this unnamed planet was whispering of destiny.

Dai Lixing went outside the courtyard and looked at the overgrown wisteria.

Its vines sprawled wantonly, some already twining around the adjacent wooden fence.

He reached out and grasped a thick wisteria vine. It was rough to the touch, bearing the marks of time.

He picked up the pruning shears and carefully began to trim the vines.

With every snip, the cut ends oozed a little sap, releasing a faint, clean fragrance.

As he pruned, his gaze was repeatedly drawn to the fruit in the vegetable garden.

The fruits were plump and round, gleaming enticingly in the twilight glow of the setting sun.

Finally, he couldn’t resist any longer. He walked to the edge of the garden and plucked a cherry tomato.

The tomato’s skin was smooth, and a gentle squeeze threatened to make the juices overflow.

He took a bite, and a sweet and tangy flavor instantly exploded in his mouth.

The familiar taste made him freeze. Something seemed to be stirring in his memory.

He stood there, chewing the fruit, his gaze growing distant.

In a daze, he seemed to see two figures moving through the garden, their laughter echoing through the air.

He shook his head hard, trying to dispel the phantom image, but it only grew clearer.

He took another bite of the fruit. The sense of familiarity intensified, as if he had experienced this exact scene before: tasting this same fruit on a similar evening.

Dai Lixing’s hand trembled slightly. He didn’t understand why he was feeling this way.

He looked toward the wooden cabin, and in his mind’s eye, Ji Xiaosong’s figure began to overlap with a blurry shadow from his memory.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, and went back to pruning the wisteria.

But the images flashing through his mind made his movements sluggish. He was lost in a feeling of déjà vu, unable to pull himself free.

With every snip of the shears, the sense of familiarity deepened, as if he had already spent countless evenings just like this on this planet, doing this very same thing.

“Come and eat.”

After calling out to Dai Lixing in the courtyard, Ji Xiaosong turned and went back inside. She needed to check on Ji Sui’an, who was sleeping.

It was about time for him to wake up for his bottle.

Ji Xiaosong gently pushed open the bedroom door. The light inside was soft. In the crib, Ji Sui’an was squirming slightly, letting out soft whimpers.

She hurried to the crib, bent down, and gently lifted the child. Her movements were practiced and light, as if she were holding the most precious treasure in the world.

“My little treasure, are you hungry?”

Ji Xiaosong murmured, her voice filled with adoration.

She sat in the rocking chair by the bed and brought the bottle of prepared formula to Ji Sui’an’s lips.

The little one instinctively opened his mouth and latched tightly onto the nipple, sucking eagerly. His small face was a picture of earnest concentration as the milk in the bottle gradually disappeared with each swallow.

Watching her son’s adorable expression, a smile unconsciously touched Ji Xiaosong’s lips, her eyes shining with maternal love.

Outside, Dai Lixing heard Ji Xiaosong’s call and froze for a moment before it registered.

He put down his shears, brushed the clippings from his clothes, and strode quickly toward the house.

When he reached the doorway, he subconsciously straightened his military uniform, trying to look less disheveled.

As he pushed open the door, the rich aroma of food washed over him. His gaze was immediately captivated by the scene in the bedroom.

The sight of Ji Xiaosong holding the baby to feed him made his heart lurch.

His feet moved toward the bedroom of their own accord. He stopped at the doorway and hesitated before finally asking, “Can I… come in and see?”

His voice was tentative, a far cry from the ruthlessly decisive man he was on the battlefield.

Ji Xiaosong looked up, saw Dai Lixing standing in the doorway, and gave a small nod for him to enter.

Dai Lixing walked into the bedroom, his eyes never leaving Ji Sui’an.

The little one, now full, smacked his lips contentedly and looked around with wide, round eyes.

Dai Lixing’s gaze met Ji Sui’an’s, and in that instant, he felt as if he’d been struck by an invisible force.

His hand lifted slightly before freezing in midair. He stammered, “I… Can I hold him?”

His voice held a note of longing that even he hadn’t noticed.

Ji Xiaosong looked at Dai Lixing, a flicker of hesitation crossing her mind. But seeing his nervous yet expectant expression, she nodded gently. “Be careful. He’s still so little.”

Upon hearing her words, as if he had just been granted a priceless treasure, Dai Lixing slowly held out his hands.

Ji Xiaosong stood and carefully placed Ji Sui’an in Dai Lixing’s arms.

Dai Lixing’s arms were stiff as he held the child, his body tensed, and he found himself subconsciously holding his breath.

Ji Sui’an seemed curious about this unfamiliar embrace. He stared up at Dai Lixing with wide eyes and gave a little squirm.

The squirm from the soft little baby in his arms made Dai Lixing’s heart leap into his throat. He lowered his head slightly to meet Ji Sui’an’s gaze and said, his own throat dry, “Hello there, little one.”

His voice was gentle, as if he were afraid of startling the baby.

Watching Dai Lixing’s clumsy yet earnest expression from the side, Ji Xiaosong couldn’t help but laugh. “You can relax a little. He’s not that fragile.”

Only then did Dai Lixing relax his muscles a bit, but his gaze remained fixed on Ji Sui’an, the tenderness and curiosity in his eyes growing more intense.

“What’s… his name?”

Dai Lixing asked, his voice still gentle.

“Ji Sui’an.”

Ji Xiaosong replied, her gaze also falling upon the child, her eyes full of love.

Dai Lixing repeated the name. “Ji Sui’an… It’s a beautiful name.”

He held the baby and began to pace slowly around the room, his steps light and careful, as if he were handling a piece of fragile porcelain.

In his arms, Ji Sui’an seemed to be growing accustomed to the embrace. He waved his little hands and made cooing sounds.

Watching the baby’s every move, the corners of Dai Lixing’s mouth curled up unconsciously, his face breaking into a smile he had never worn before.

‘He had already taken a look around; there was absolutely no sign of a man living in the little courtyard. That meant Ji Xiaosong was very likely single.’

‘Then…’

‘Did he have a chance?’

‘Had they really shared a past, and was she still waiting for him?’

His heart trembled at the mere thought.
