Chapter 207: Chapter 203: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 14
When Ji Xiaosong and Rongrong returned, Dai Lixing was still asleep.
Morning light filtered through the carved window lattice, casting tiny flecks of light onto Dai Lixing’s eyelashes.
Ji Xiaosong leaned over the edge of the bed, twirling a pale golden Spiritual Power Ball on her fingertip. She watched it flicker like a firefly above the space between the man’s eyebrows.
"Hey, lazybones! The sun is high in the sky!"
She poked his well-defined nose with the Spiritual Power Ball, watching the orb sink into his soft skin and then spring back, just like a hopping Golden Canary.
Dai Lixing unconsciously furrowed his brow and buried his face in the pillow.
Suddenly, the Spiritual Power Ball WHOOSHED down his collar.
Ji Xiaosong rested her chin on her hand, watching it slide down his collarbone and create a mischievous little bump beneath his undershirt.
When the orb traveled to his heart, the man’s eyelashes fluttered violently, and a muffled "Song Song..." escaped his throat.
"That’s right!"
Ji Xiaosong’s eyes curved into crescents as her fingertip tapped his chest.
"As a reward, you get to have this good little ball~"
As she spoke, the Spiritual Power Ball dissolved into golden dust, seeping into his skin from beneath her fingertip.
Dai Lixing jerked suddenly, his arms pulling her into an embrace. He nuzzled his forehead against the crook of her neck, just like a big, affectionate cat.
"Ah!"
Ji Xiaosong, tickled by his nuzzling, giggled and pushed at his shoulder.
"You little liar, pretending to sleep!"
But she realized his breathing was still long and steady. He was clearly still sound asleep.
In the morning light, the tips of the man’s ears were suspiciously red. Tiny beads of sweat clung to his eyelashes, and his palm was unconsciously caressing the soft flesh at her waist.
Ji Xiaosong suddenly nipped his earlobe, tugging gently. "When you wake up, you have to take me to the back mountain to pick dewdrop grass, okay?"
Her fingers traced the throbbing pulse on his wrist. The golden thread transformed from the Spiritual Power Ball was coursing through his veins towards his heart.
The crisp sound of birdsong came from outside the window. Dai Lixing’s fingers suddenly tightened around her wrist.
Ji Xiaosong thought he was waking up, but he just rolled over, buried his face in the crook of her neck, and drifted back to sleep, his breath carrying the faint scent of ambergris.
"Greedy..."
With a smile, Ji Xiaosong tickled his nose with the tips of her hair. She watched him frown in his sleep before she carefully climbed out of bed.
In the morning light, her shadow overlapped with the young man’s, creating the pattern of two intertwined carp sleeping on the ground.
"Song, why isn’t he awake yet? Didn’t you erase his memories? Why does it feel like he still remembers?"
Ji Xiaosong left the bedroom and went to the strawberry patch in the vegetable garden. She casually picked a strawberry and slowly replied:
"I only erased his memories from last night, I didn’t touch anything else. The reason he’s acting like this is, most likely, because he thinks he’s still dreaming."
Sure enough, not long after, Dai Lixing slowly woke up.
Dai Lixing startled awake to see the morning sun casting the shadow of the carved window lattice onto the bed curtains.
He pressed a hand to his throbbing temples, and his fingertips came away damp. It was cold sweat.
’How did I end up in Xiaosong’s bedroom?’
The bedding, fragrant with sandalwood and a young woman’s natural scent, was wrapped around his powerful frame. The man looked down to see he was only wearing an undershirt, its collar crooked and gaping open.
On the nightstand sat a half-empty cup of cold ginseng tea, its rim stained with lipstick.
’Last night...’
His Adam’s apple bobbed. His memory was like a crumpled piece of paper, only tattered fragments left fluttering through his mind.
The burning touch of a high fever, the warmth of soft lips pressing between his brows, and that smiling phrase, "Greedy..."
"KNOCK KNOCK."
Ji Xiaosong pushed the door open, carrying a celadon bowl. A freshly bloomed peony was tucked into her hair.
On reflex, Dai Lixing yanked the blanket up to cover his torso, the tips of his ears red enough to bleed.
"Xiaosong, I..."
"Eat your porridge!"
Ji Xiaosong shoved the bowl into his arms, the porcelain spoon CLINKING against the rim.
"You had a high fever and were delirious last night. You grabbed onto me and wouldn’t let me leave, so I had to make the great sacrifice of sleeping here with you."
Dai Lixing choked and coughed, not even noticing the scalding hot porridge splashing on the back of his hand.
He saw the faint red marks on her neck and was suddenly reminded of the warm, soft skin he’d bitten in his dream.
"Was it really just..."
"Or what?"
Ji Xiaosong suddenly leaned in, their noses almost touching.
The morning light fractured into gold foil in her pupils. "Or did you want to do something to me?"
The man flinched back as if scalded, the small of his back bumping against a cold bedpost.
As Ji Xiaosong turned, he saw a strand of her hair sweep across the pillow where he’d slept last night, where a clear indentation remained.
"I’m really sorry."
"It’s in the past. Don’t worry about it. I’m heading out; the tomato seedlings need watering."
The moment Ji Xiaosong turned to leave, Dai Lixing threw off the covers to get out of bed, only to find a torn piece of an undershirt at the foot of the bed.
The fabric was stained with dark red blood, and it looked like it had been torn by sharp claws.
"Xiaosong!"
He clutched the fabric and rushed out the door, only to see her squatting in the vegetable patch, watering tomato seedlings. The morning sun edged the tips of her hair in gold.
When she turned at the sound, her fingertips were still smudged with dirt. She smiled, and her prominent canines sparkled.
"What’s wrong?"
Dai Lixing’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and on a strange impulse, he blurted out, "Last night... did we...?"
PFFT!
Ji Xiaosong suddenly laughed out loud, pulled a strawberry from her apron pocket, and stuffed it in his mouth.
"Have you been having lewd dreams or something? You were delirious with a fever all night. I didn’t even take off your clothes."
The man froze in place, the sweet and sour strawberry in his mouth. As he watched her skip away, he suddenly noticed a few salt stains on the hem of her skirt.
The wind rustled the bronze bells under the eaves, and their DING-DONG mixed with the light tune Ji Xiaosong was humming:
"A warm spring slumber in the scent of ambergris, my bedside love more delicate than a blossom~"
Dai Lixing touched his chest. A tingling numbness, left behind by the Spiritual Power Ball’s journey, still lingered there, though he had no idea what it was.
’After today, his spaceship would be repaired.’
’I don’t want to go. I don’t want to go at all.’
’But I still have my responsibilities. I can’t just walk away.’
Sighing, Dai Lixing returned to his spaceship to continue his maintenance checks.
Once all the tests were completed without issue, he disembarked from the ship and headed for the back mountain.
’That’s where the dewdrop grass Xiaosong mentioned grows. I’ll transplant a pot of it onto my ship.’
’I wonder if it’ll survive.’
’If not, I’ll press it and keep it as a specimen.’
He had just placed the dewdrop grass in the spaceship and come back down when the scent of caramel wafted from the kitchen. Ji Xiaosong was on her tiptoes, reaching for a jar of honey in the cupboard.
As if guided by some unseen force, Dai Lixing walked over. "I’ll get it."
The moment his warm chest pressed against her back, he saw the tips of her ears flush red, exactly as they had in his dream last night.
Just as Dai Lixing’s fingers touched the honey jar, he felt Ji Xiaosong’s finger poke him gently in the waist.
Sweet honey spilled onto the stove, the golden syrup running down the girl’s wrist and drawing a glistening thread in the morning light.
"Ah! It’s all your fault for being so tall!"
As Ji Xiaosong turned, she deliberately bumped into his chest, her honey-coated fingertip tracing a lopsided heart on his shirt.
"Are you going to lick it clean for me?"
The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the edge of the cupboard.
The peony in her hair brushed against his chin, its sweet fragrance mingling with the scent of honey. The memory of teeth breaking skin from his dream suddenly became vivid.
"Xiaosong, stop fooling around."
His voice was as hoarse as grinding, rusty gears. "I... should go."
Ji Xiaosong suddenly rose onto her tiptoes and licked the honey from the corner of his lips, her eyelashes casting a sly shadow below her eyes.
"So what if your spaceship is fixed? You clearly don’t want to leave."
Her fingertips slid down his tense arm to his wrist. The moment they touched, a golden thread made of spiritual power lit up between them.
Dai Lixing jerked back half a step, the small of his back hitting the cold ceramic tiles.
The salt stains on her skirt were now brushing against his trouser leg, a seeming reminder of the torn undershirt and bloodstains from the night before.
He suddenly thought of the newly transplanted dewdrop grass in his ship’s cargo hold. He had just collected it from the back mountain, its roots still damp with the morning dew Ji Xiaosong loved so much.
