Chapter 199: Chapter 195: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 6

"I’m not going to go. Wa Star is a great place for farming, and I’m happy here. I don’t feel like venturing into the outside world just yet."

Ji Xiaosong refused without a second thought. Humans lived long lives in the interstellar age, and her current body was only twenty years old. By interstellar standards, she had just come of age.

’Since I’m still young with plenty of time to learn, there’s no need to be in such a hurry.’

Dai Lixing thought of his own unresolved problems. If he suddenly brought a woman back with him, it would undoubtedly cause a huge stir.

He had almost died. If he went back, he couldn’t be certain he could protect Ji Xiaosong at all times.

"Alright. In three days, I’ll register the necessary accounts for you. You can add my Star Network account, and we can stay in touch."

Dai Lixing didn’t press her further. In his current situation, managing to steal three days of peace was a rare luxury.

After they finished breakfast, Ji Xiaosong had Dai Lixing clean up the kitchen himself.

By the time he finished everything and came out to the courtyard, Ji Xiaosong was watering her fruits and vegetables.

The patch Dai Lixing had picked clean last night was already flowering again today.

"Why do the plants here grow so fast?"

Dai Lixing didn’t quite understand. He knew full well how much he had eaten last night, but he was surprised to see that the eight rows of strawberries had grown back already.

The cucumbers and small tomatoes were also in bloom. At this rate, he might just get to eat another round tonight.

"Wa Star has plenty of energy, so naturally the plants grow well. I live alone and can’t eat all this food, so with you here, you can help me deal with some of it."

Ji Xiaosong quickly finished watering the vegetable garden and walked into the strawberry patch.

She casually plucked a strawberry, wiped it on her apron, and began to eat.

’So sweet!’

’And it has a creamy aroma.’

Dai Lixing gazed at the ends of Ji Xiaosong’s hair, edged in gold by the sunlight, and suddenly felt his throat go tight.

Her fingertips were still stained with strawberry juice, and when she wiped them on her apron, they left behind a few faint red specks, like an overturned box of rouge.

"Want a taste?"

Ji Xiaosong offered him a strawberry, and the scent of cream, mingled with the faint grassy fragrance about her, washed over him.

As if compelled, Dai Lixing lowered his head and bit down. The moment the sweet and tart fruit burst on his tongue, he noticed the small canine teeth, revealed by her smile, were also dusted with a fine, sugary sheen.

The hum of the automatic irrigation system starting up drifted from the distance, and water droplets on the plastic greenhouses refracted shattered rainbows.

The girl, always wrapped in a faded denim apron, was now on her tiptoes reaching for a high tomato vine, the cotton fabric outlining a waist so slender you could wrap your hands around it.

"How about we try some strawberry cream pancakes this afternoon?"

As Ji Xiaosong turned, the strawberry hairpin in her hair caught the sun with a mischievous glint.

"The cream is fermented from a new strain of bacteria I developed. It has a very thick and smooth texture."

"What’s that? I’ve never heard of it."

Dai Lixing truly hadn’t heard of them. In fact, he couldn’t name most of the things in her garden.

He wouldn’t have known what they were if Ji Xiaosong hadn’t told him.

These things only existed in diagrams unearthed during archaeological digs.

"It’s a dessert, and it tastes pretty good. You’ll know once you’ve tried it."

Dai Lixing heard his own heart pounding like thunder, as if it were about to shatter the life support system in his protective suit.

He gazed at the blade of grass on the tip of her nose and suddenly realized it wasn’t just the plants that were growing uncontrollably.

"By the way, you haven’t changed your clothes. Is it because you don’t have a spare set, or for another reason? You can use my bathroom; it’s not like there’s another one here."

’He hasn’t changed today.’ Ji Xiaosong immediately remembered that after she’d used the Cleaning Technique on him yesterday, he hadn’t taken a bath himself either.

’She couldn’t be with a man who wasn’t clean.’

’Otherwise, sharing a bed would be disgusting!’

"This protective suit has a self-cleaning function, so it doesn’t need to be changed every day."

Huh?

’It’s that advanced?’

Ji Xiaosong immediately thought of many ways it could be used for all sorts of jobs.

Seeing Ji Xiaosong’s confusion, Dai Lixing began to explain the functions of his protective suit.

Dai Lixing pointed to the faint silver markings near the collar of the protective suit. "These fibers can automatically break down stains, just like living skin. For instance, the strawberry juice you wiped on my sleeve will vanish completely in under three seconds."

He raised his arm, and sure enough, the dark red stain was already fading.

Ji Xiaosong leaned in to get a closer look, the ends of her hair brushing his shoulder.

Dai Lixing subtly took half a step back. "The temperature regulation system can adapt to extreme environments, from -238℃ to 2000℃. Even if I took you to the mouth of a volcano right now, it would maintain a perceived temperature of 22℃."

He added, as if suddenly remembering something, "Of course, this suit’s main function is to block all kinds of radiation. We often travel through space, where there’s a lot of radiation that can harm the body. With a protective suit like this, our lives are protected."

"Then..."

Ji Xiaosong poked the bulky device on his hip. "What’s this thing that looks like a waist pack?"

"Energy Core."

Dai Lixing pulled back the outer protective layer to reveal a deep blue crystal. "It can store energy equivalent to twenty stellar power stations and can maintain the self-cleaning and protective functions for three years without a recharge. However..."

He suddenly grinned. "If you were thinking of taking it, this little thing could be traded for ten terrestrial planets on the black market."

Ji Xiaosong rolled her eyes and turned to walk away, but he stopped her. "Oh, and the suit has a hidden function."

He activated a holographic projector on his collar, and a three-dimensional topographic map materialized in the air. "It can pinpoint lifeforms in real-time within a fifty-thousand-kilometer radius."

His finger traced over a blinking red dot. "For example, right now, there’s an Earth Rat Beast stealing berries in the southwest corner, just outside the courtyard."

"Wow!"

Ji Xiaosong immediately perked up. "Can I borrow it to catch pests, then?"

"No."

Dai Lixing deactivated the projection. "This is military-grade equipment. No one can activate it but me."

Seeing the disappointment on her face, he found himself adding, "However... once you learn how to operate the Star Network, I can teach you how to use the civilian version."

"The civilian version... is it impervious to blades and bullets, water and fire?"

’Ji Xiaosong was more concerned with its practical applications. If this technology could be used for the military, she couldn’t even imagine how rapidly a nation could advance.’

"Of course. Those are just basic functions, nothing special. Even the most low-end protective suit can do all that."

"So, does that mean you can wear this one suit and never have to change clothes again?"

"Ahem..."

Dai Lixing coughed awkwardly. "Well, not quite. Protective suits come in many different styles. Since you’re on Wa Star, you might not be familiar with the outside world. Almost all clothing out there is a type of protective suit; they just vary in functionality."

"So you’re saying all fabrics have these functions, and the only difference is the level of functionality and comfort?"

"Right."

"The outside world sounds so amazing."

Ji Xiaosong was filled with even more anticipation. "Then you’d better fix your ship and the Star Network quickly. I can’t wait to find out more."
