Chapter 196: Chapter 192: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 3

Early the next morning, Ji Xiaosong got up to start finishing the interior of her house.

Thankfully, she had plenty of wood, more than enough material for any style she envisioned.

After a full day’s work, she finally finished all the rooms.

The bed in the bedroom was the same elaborate canopy bed she had loved from the very beginning.

The vegetables planted out front, grown from seeds she’d brought from previous worlds, were already ripe for eating.

She didn’t yet know which of Wa Star’s native plants were edible, as this body’s previous owner had subsisted entirely on nutrient solutions.

Someone of her status could only afford the cheap kind.

Tasteless, but it filled her stomach and kept her alive.

To be safe, it was better to grow the plants she had brought with her.

The gopher-beasts watched from a distance, their faces full of curiosity, as Ji Xiaosong picked spinach from her garden.

But their curiosity ended there; they dared not take a single step forward.

"Song, don’t you think you should put a fence around the vegetable patch?"

Rongrong floated in front of Ji Xiaosong, who casually placed the spinach she was holding on her.

"You have a point. I’ll build one right now."

"Actually, you could consider planting a ring of shrubs or thorns. They’d be the first line of defense, with your Barrier acting as the second."

"Alright, your call."

Ji Xiaosong rummaged through her storage space and finally found the thorn trees from the world of the Phoenix Clan.

Although the lack of Spiritual Power to nourish them would weaken these thorn trees, they were still more than enough to handle ordinary flora and fauna.

She planted the thorn trees in a circle around the entire vegetable patch and yard, then watered them with some Spiritual Spring Water. As expected, they were immediately spurred into rapid growth.

In just a moment, the thorn trees grew into a dense, thick wall.

To avoid blocking the sunlight, she kept the thorn trees at a height of about two meters.

"Rongrong, what do you want for dinner tonight?"

"When you’re eating alone, what’s there to make?"

"Just make some noodles. You’ve already picked the spinach, after all."

"Add a few slices of tender beef... perfect."

A short while later, Ji Xiaosong sat at the entrance of her house with a bowl of beef and spinach noodles, gazing up at the star-filled sky.

Warm, amber light spilled from the vine-wrapped doorframe. Ji Xiaosong sat with her legs curled beneath her on the mossy steps, the glow tinting the tips of her hair the golden-brown of wheat fields.

Resin wind chimes filled with fluorescent pollen hung from the eaves. They flickered in the steam rising from her noodles, scattering motes of light into the night wind like crushed stardust, which settled silently on her soup-splashed fingertips.

The defensive Array embedded in the doorposts emitted a faint cyan glow, echoing the distant, phosphorescent rings left by rock-boring worms, though both lights were muted by the Barrier into a hazy, dreamlike radiance, like an ink-wash painting.

The rim of the Margronte bowl resting on her knees was dotted with bits of spinach. The dregs of soup at the bottom reflected the sea of stars above, and with each breath she took, tiny ripples disturbed the reflected starlight.

"Rongrong, what about that mission objective you mentioned?"

Life seemed a little too comfortable. She couldn’t get complacent; it was time to think about her mission in this world.

"Don’t rush. He’ll be arriving tonight."

"What? Arriving where tonight?"

The words had barely left Ji Xiaosong’s mouth when a dark shadow plummeted from the sky.

"There. Your child’s father for this lifetime. His ship malfunctioned and crashed on this planet. In the last timeline, he was unconscious, and with all the venomous beasts and poisonous insects around, he was killed pretty quickly."

"Then what are we waiting for? We have to go save him!"

Ji Xiaosong cast a Cleaning Technique on her bowl, stored it in her space, and ran straight outside.

The moment she opened the door, she saw a pillar of fire lighting up half the night sky.

At the edge of the deep crater gouged out by the crash, twisted metal glowed a molten red. A faded designation number was barely visible on a piece of the Starship’s hull.

More frightening still, dozens of pairs of glowing green eyes began to appear in the shadows of the jungle. Amidst a rising chorus of low growls, a giant black panther at the fore arched its back, ready to pounce.

With a flick of her wrist, Ji Xiaosong tossed out three flares. In the sudden, harsh light, she saw the man lying in the center of the crater.

His silver-gray uniform was scorched to rags, and blood seeped from a wound on his left forehead. Less than three meters away, three venomous vines were silently slithering toward him.

’He’s not bad-looking, and he appears to be human. Good. I was worried there might be reproductive isolation.’

"You’re thinking too much. Reproductive isolation is a real thing. Even in the interstellar age, different species can’t produce offspring, even if they intermarry."

"Fair enough. I’ll take him back now and save his life."

Ji Xiaosong shooed away the venomous vines, tossed the man onto Rongrong’s back, and sauntered back to her house.

’I didn’t expect him to show up so soon. Looks like I’ll have to make him a bed, or he’ll have nowhere to sleep.’

"Don’t bother. Isn’t there a sofa in the living room? Let him sleep on that tonight. This man is the Federation’s number one War God; he’s tough as nails."

Back in the living room, Ji Xiaosong cast a few more Cleaning Techniques to wash the man from head to toe.

She then took out a large blanket and laid him down on the sofa.

"The number one War God? What’s his name?"

The body’s original owner had no memory of him. She had spent every day just thinking about how to survive; how would she have had the chance to learn about the number one War God?

"Dai Lixing."

’The name’s not bad. And look at his genes... my future child should turn out well. I just hope I don’t end up with another son like Lao Wu from the last world. He’d drive me to an early grave.’

"In this world, a child’s genes can be selected. Only the lower classes have children whose genes are a random mix from their parents."

"No wonder. The great families get more and more powerful, while commoners remain stuck in the mud. If this keeps up, won’t the world descend into chaos?"

"Yes. Once the class structure becomes rigid, someone will inevitably try to flip the table. That’s exactly why Dai Lixing was targeted, leading to this crisis. His mother was a commoner, so he grew up wanting to change the status quo. His family found out and decided to eliminate him."

"If you ask me, these great families and the Federation are fools. Why back people into a corner? If they just left a few paths open for commoners to advance, people would have hope and wouldn’t cause trouble. Then society would be stable."

Ji Xiaosong cleaned and dressed Dai Lixing’s wounds, but she was at a loss as to how to fully heal him.

’Even though I’m an accomplished physician, the eras are completely different. I have no idea if my methods will even work on him.’

"Just give it a try. It’s not like he’s going to die anytime soon."

Rongrong’s cheerful, drama-loving attitude made Ji Xiaosong laugh out loud.

"What if I accidentally kill him? Then what are we supposed to do in this world?"

"It wouldn’t really matter. The Star Lord of Destiny chose the father of your child. If this one dies, I’ll just go back to the Star Lord of Destiny and have him swapped for another one."

"He can be swapped?"

Ji Xiaosong never knew that was an option.
