When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal
Chapter 195 - 191: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 2
Chapter 195: Chapter 191: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 2
Ji Xiaosong flew on Rongrong’s back for a day and a night, finally arriving at Wa Star just before dawn.
Wa Star was a spherical planet. They circled the entire world, marking various locations before finally finding a plain to stop at.
To be safe, Ji Xiaosong didn’t land immediately. Instead, she first scanned the entire plain with her Divine Sense. After seeing everything—the rivers and grasslands, both above and below ground—her scalp went numb.
In the river, which had a metallic sheen, ten-meter-tall, transparent, umbrella-shaped creatures were rooted to the riverbed.
Their bells were woven from tens of thousands of tentacles, and the tip of each tentacle had a structure resembling a human iris that could adjust buoyancy based on the current.
Just one glance was enough to make Ji Xiaosong’s skin crawl.
’These things look like giant jellyfish.’
The grasslands were home to animals that resembled groundhogs, and all they seemed to think about was eating.
Beneath the grass, there were swarms of giant, worm-like creatures. Their bodies were covered in basalt scales, and their drill-shaped heads spun as they tunneled forward.
As they gnawed through rock strata, an acidic mucus secreted from their mouths reacted with the minerals, creating briefly glowing "geological rings." These fluorescent patterns were Wa Star’s unique bio-geological clock.
"Song, I took a look. Even though those worms eat through rock, it shouldn’t affect the foundation if we build a house. If you’re still worried, you can just place a Barrier above and below ground around the house."
Ji Xiaosong took a big, red apple from her spatial storage and began to munch on it, mulling over Rongrong’s suggestion.
"You’re right. After looking everywhere, this is the only place suitable for farming. They’re just some worms and groundhogs. And even if there are other bizarre creatures I haven’t seen, I’ll just consider it living in harmony with nature. I’m a sentient plant spirit; you think I’m going to be afraid of some non-sentient animals?"
She gave herself a little pep talk, then used her Spiritual Power to mark out a hundred-square-meter area on the grass.
"Song, do you know how to build a house?"
"I do. Back in the modern era, I collected a lot of tutorials for this kind of thing. It shouldn’t be too hard to build one now."
Ji Xiaosong and Rongrong then flew to a nearby forest, preparing to uproot some giant trees.
The trees here were all at least a hundred meters tall, as thick as ten-thousand-year-old redwoods.
Standing on the grass, which glowed with a faint blue fluorescence, she condensed a ball of cyan Spiritual Power at her fingertips.
She pressed her palm against the trunk of the nearest giant tree. The bark immediately rippled with green light, and the tree’s growth rings unfolded in her sea of consciousness like an ink wash painting.
’The growth rings are evenly spaced. The wood fibers are three times denser than the redwoods on Blue Star.’
She closed her eyes, sensing the information coming from the tree’s core as her Spiritual Power traveled along the lines of the growth rings. ’Age: one hundred and twenty star-cycles, which is about eighty Blue Star years.’
Rongrong was astonished. "It’s that young? To grow so big in such a short time!"
"It must be the soil and water here. With good fertility and an abundant water source, things grow fast."
Without another word, Ji Xiaosong chose four of the trees and pulled them up, roots and all.
After storing the four giant trees in her spatial storage, Ji Xiaosong once again spread her Divine Sense, this time searching for short shrubs with high resin content.
Once she had collected all the timber, she began to cut the raw logs with her Spiritual Power.
The flowing cyan Spiritual Blade was more precise than any laser cutter. The bark automatically peeled off, curling into cylinders that rolled to the side, while the core wood was broken down into planks of uniform size.
’Since I’m the only one here for now, the wooden house doesn’t need to be too large.’
’One bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, a study, and a tool room.’
’The bedroom needs an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in closet. A girl needs her wardrobe, and I’m a plant who appreciates beauty, after all.’
’The living room doesn’t have to be huge; it’s just a place to relax.’
’As for the kitchen, it should be an open plan with the dining area to make meals easier.’
’Since I’m the only one living here, I can set it up however is most convenient.’
’The study must be large, with plenty of bookshelves.’
’In the Interstellar Era, even though cloud data is the norm, physical books have still been preserved.’
’They hold the history of every race, our cultural heritage.’
’And the tool room, as the name suggests, will be for all my farming equipment.’
’After all, I came to this interstellar world to be a farmer. What kind of farmer doesn’t have tools?’
Having carefully designed the blueprints in her mind, Ji Xiaosong began to build the house in earnest.
Construction officially began.
Ji Xiaosong slapped her palms on the ground. Thirty-six peeled logs shot up from the earth, forming a hexagon.
She precisely infused a Barrier and Spiritual Power into the top of each pillar.
The wood grain immediately twisted, growing into precise tenons. The crossbeams slid into place with a crisp CLICK.
’A vent needs to go on the southeast wall.’
She gathered Spiritual Power at her fingertips and sketched a three-dimensional model in the air. Twenty carved wooden planks immediately flew to their designated positions.
When the final piece, a crescent-shaped window lattice with a vine pattern, slid into place, the entire wooden house suddenly pulsed with cyan light. Fine roots sprouted from every seam, twining together to secure the joints.
"I knew you’d come and make trouble."
Ji Xiaosong looked at the worm-like things underground. She decided to call them "Drill-bugs," since "worms" just sounded too disgusting.
She gave a light stomp, and countless fluorescent vines shot out from the ground.
The roots of these plants were entwined with Energy Crystals dropped by the groundhog-like beasts, and they formed a glittering defensive ring of Crystal Stones around the house.
When the Drill-bugs approached again, the vines suddenly sprayed a cloud of golden pollen, sending them scurrying back into the depths of the rock strata.
By the time night fell, a two-story wooden house with high ceilings stood complete.
Ji Xiaosong flattened purple resin to make the windows and wove vines into a movable door that could be raised and lowered.
A nine-layered defensive Array Map was hidden beneath the attic floor, and even the roof tiles were scale-like structures she had formed by compressing wood chips with her Spiritual Power.
’Just one last step.’
She scattered soil from her life-bound space in front of and behind the house. A few drops of Spiritual Liquid fell to the ground, instantly sprouting a patch of green seedlings.
The groundhog-like beasts smelled the Spiritual Energy and swarmed forward, but the instant they touched the fence, the vines wrapped them into furry balls and sent them rolling, RUMBLE RUMBLE, back to their burrows.
She looked at the finished house. The entire building was a hexagonal prism, constructed from the wood of giant trees that shimmered with a silver-blue luster.
The walls were fitted with a living, breathing mortise-and-tenon structure. Whenever a breeze blew past, a pale green Spiritual Energy smelling of pine would seep from the seams in the wood grain.
The roof was covered in fish-scale-shaped tiles of compressed wood, each embedded with a miniature defensive array. In the face of danger, they would stand on end, forming a coat of spiked armor.
Beneath the foundation lay a protective net woven from eighteen layers of tree roots, while the fluorescent vines wrapped around the fence like neon lights.
During the day, these vines absorbed sunlight to store energy, and at night, they sprayed the golden pollen that made the Drill-bugs retch.
At the corners of the house squatted four tree-stump puppet guards, which were in fact automated cleaners powered by the Energy Crystals dropped by the groundhog-like beasts.
After finishing all this, Ji Xiaosong took out a large amount of furniture she had previously stockpiled in her spatial storage.
She tried arranging it this way and that, but in the end, she still wasn’t satisfied.
’Now that I look at it, it’s the interior decorating that’s not right.’
’Oh, well. It’s dark now. I’ll sleep on it. Anything else can wait until tomorrow. I’ll just make do in my spatial storage for tonight.’
There wasn’t another soul on Wa Star right now, so she didn’t have to worry about any other races dropping by for a surprise visit.
