I went up to the person with the back profile that looked familiar to me, since I had been following that exact person through the library for a while so I’m pretty sure that was him.

I walked up towards the figure of Grant who was facing one of the walls along the corridor, moving to peek around the side to see if my hypothesis was right.

Sure enough... His face was blurred.

Hmm... So either these Faceless Ones mimic people who die here... Or people who die here turn into Faceless Ones...

I looked down at the corridor that was now practically filled with them, easily numbering in the hundreds with how far the corridor seemed to stretch.

I have no doubt there were more of them elsewhere but basically this meant I’m in a corridor with at least a few hundred people who have died in this place.

That was when the crying sound came again, coming from further down the corridor which meant I would have to walk past all these Faceless Ones if I wanted to investigate it.

Seeing that these Faceless Ones all looked quite docile, I decided to just ignore them and head in the direction of the crying.

I mean... There must be a reason there’s crying sounds right? It’s either a trap to lure people there or it’s the marker for where you have to go to trigger the next location or something.

I moved through the corridor, avoiding the Faceless Ones that were dotted along the path, all of them ignoring me and showing no signs of acknowledging my presence.

Also, I noted that most of the rooms were also now filled with Faceless Ones as well instead of being empty. Some of them were strapped on the bed while others were either just standing inside the room or laying around, even when the bed had no mattress on the bedframe.

The corridor seemed to stretch on forever and was impossibly long if this had been real life. But since this was the kind of place it was... It wasn’t surprising.

I simply continued to walk, following the sounds of the crying that echoed around the corridor and getting progressively louder as I got closer and closer to it.

One thing I did notice though... As I walked down the corridor, the place seemed to get darker a little, not that it really affected me to begin with anyway.

A normal person would have needed a flashlight to navigate through this corridor without tripping over anything, since the lights were mostly broken with only semi working lights that were flickering on and off every few dozen meters or so.

But to me, I was able to see the entire corridor like it was dimly lit so I could move through the place perfectly, even when the corridor seemed to darken.

Then, as if I had crossed some kind of boundary, the entire corridor suddenly shifted when I blinked, emptying it of all the Faceless Ones that had been occupying the space earlier.

Hmm... Something tells me that the corridor full of Faceless Ones was meant to be some kind of trap. Maybe they were meant to swarm me if I were to touch one of them or something but since I could see in the dark, it did not trigger so I’m now in the next section or something.

And as if to let me know that I was definitely in a different section of the level, the walls on the corridor seemed a little... Different...

Different in the sense that it looked like they were... Pulsating... Like they were alive or something.

Adding to that, the rooms were now empty again and I was pretty sure I wasn’t imagining it when I saw what looked like shadowy figures out of the corner of my eyes standing in the corners watching me.

But when I turned to face them, they would always disappear as if they had just been my imagination.

As I continued walking towards the crying sounds, I suddenly heard what sounded like whispers echoing from the walls.

At first I just simply ignored them, but then I perked up my ears when a particular whisper caught my attention.

"Aster..."

I stopped in my tracks, looking around to see if I could find the location of that whisper.

Another whisper came from the side, "Aster... You betrayed us..."

Hmm? Betray? Did I betray someone? I don’t think I did, did I?

"You... Let me die..."

Huh? Is that supposed to be Grant’s whispering? Interesting... But the first whisper said ’us’ so either that was a slip or this place managed to get my memories somehow and was trying to use it against me by planting some doubts or whatever to throw me off.

I decided to just ignore it after that and continue walking again, heading in the direction of the crying.

The whisperings were pretty insistent and they started throwing accusations at me like calling me out for killing people and beating my fellow students.

When that didn’t work, the whispers started using the names of my lovers as well, using their voices to start saying mean things like calling me arrogant and disgusting and stuff.

I was obviously not affected since I knew what my girls were really like and I had complete trust in them where they would never say things like this to me.

I completely tuned it out after that and I eventually reached the end of the corridor where it made a turn towards the right.

And as I turned to continue, I realised I had reached the source of the crying.

There, standing in the middle of the hallway, was a nurse dressed in a nurse outfit with her back facing me and crying into her hands.

I turned to look back at the corridor that I had just traversed and... Something tells me that this was supposed to be a chase sequence or something...

Well then...

I cracked my knuckles and my neck before I approached that nurse casually, fully prepared for her to suddenly turn around and run towards me.

When I got within a few feet of it, the nurse suddenly turned around, revealing that its face was not human and had vertical slits for eyes and an impossible wide mouth and no nose.

But as I prepared for the nurse to start running towards me, I suddenly found myself unable to move.

My eyes were locked on the nurse’s and the walls around us seemed to melt away and my vision turned black.

When I could see again, I found myself standing in a dark, empty space.

Then I felt a presence behind me, prompting me to turn back to see there was a copy of me being suspended in the air with thick chains wrapped around my limbs and body, the ends of the chains stretching and disappearing into the darkness.

I didn’t get much of a chance to inspect that sight before it disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving me in complete darkness again.

Darkness that was completely devoid of anything but myself.

So dark and empty...

Dark...

Empty...

Nothing...

Nothing...

Nothi--

I paused, sensing a presence behind me which prompted me to turn.

The nurse was standing there... And for some reason, she seemed to look afraid.

I smiled at her, "There you are."

She took a few steps back and I was right in front of her before she could get away, my hands curling around her neck and squeezing.

Honestly, I was totally intending to just hold her up by the neck to dangle her up as a way to torment her a little but... She turned out to be more fragile than I thought since a light squeeze from me ended up causing her entire body to shatter like glass.

The moment she shattered however, the darkness shattered along with her and I was suddenly back in the hospital corridor again.

The nurse standing in front of me unexpectedly let out a terrified gasp before she turned around and ran away.

Eh?

That was definitely not what I expected to see after everything...

And because of that, I started chasing after the nurse instead, wanting to see if I could get her to show me the way out instead.

But it seemed like this particular floor did not like that and the corridor seemed to stretch itself to slow me down, making me unable to catch up with her when I should have been able to reach her in an instant.

She then turned and ran through one of the open doorways before slamming the door behind her.

The corridor returned to normal and I was there in an instant, kicking open the door to jump in after her.

What I found was a completely empty room and the nurse nowhere to be found.

Great...

Just as I was about to try and turn the room upside down to see if there was a hidden exit, a deep, bone chilling laughter suddenly echoed from outside the room.

So first you cry and next you laugh? What’s next then? You gonna moan?
