What Do You Mean There Are Other Transmigrators In My Harem Fantasy?
Chapter 1539: Eerie Hospital
I got past that level so fast I think it should have been a new record, to be honest.
Looking back, I could still see the parts of the playground that I destroyed and I think I see movement in the playground itself below me, which I believe belonged to the entities that prowl this level.
Turning back, I reached for the button beside the lift doors and pressed it, prompting the doors to open and for me to step in--
My foot phased through the ground and I found myself falling into the floor of the lift like they weren’t even there.
I immediately spread open my wings, intending to slow my fall, but that seemed to be unnecessary as the fall was a short one and I landed on my feet before my wings could fully unfurl.
I straightened myself, looking around to get my bearings.
I was at the end of a dark corridor that was devoid of light and it stretched forward a few meters before opening up to what looked like a reception hall with the reception desk on the left and a few plastic chairs facing the reception counter on the right.
The corridor then continued past the reception hall to a T-junction where a single lightbulb shone at the intersection, flashing erratically from time to time.
I realised this place was a hospital by the sight of the rusted and half broken gurney that was placed at the side of that corridor.
Without a source of light, I would guess that normal people would find it hard to navigate through here but not for me since I could see in the dark anyway.
The place was eerily quiet, with the faint hum of static and the smell of antiseptic in the air.
I moved to the reception hall, finding it empty and devoid of life.
There was an old television hanging above the reception table which was showing a static screen which was the source of the static noise I was hearing.
The place also looked old and worn, like this hospital had been abandoned and left to rot for a while.
Amongst the plastic chairs that served as the waiting area for patients, most of them were broken in some way or another, making them more akin to piles of scrap than proper seats.
At first, I was thinking about just breaking through the walls to get through the level but... This might be one of those places that required you to find something to get to the next level. Maybe it was a reaction to me destroying the last level that they decided to put me in here?
Moving past the hall, I entered the next corridor where there were doors on either side before it reached the T-junction, both of them with a small window at the top to allow you to peek inside the room.
I first looked at the one on the right, finding it to be a patient room with a broken bed in the corner and nothing else inside.
Moving to the other door, I found that it was similar to the first one except the bed was more intact.
Before I could move away however, a pale, human face suddenly appeared from the side of the window, their eyes wide and staring straight at me before suddenly disappearing.
I was startled by it, since I was completely caught off guard and took a few steps back.
I waited to see if anything else would happen but... The door remained shut and the person that had appeared at the window disappeared completely, not even coming out to attack me or something.
Thus, I went ahead to nudge the door open with the tip of my foot.
The door creaked open to reveal a completely empty room, the person who had appeared at the window nowhere to be found.
And no, there was no one under the bed either or on the ceiling, I checked. It was like that person just vanished into thin air.
I shrugged, not really bothered by it and simply walked to the T-junction to see what else there was around here.
Both corridors stretched to different parts of the hospital and there seemed to be a sign on the wall with arrows pointing to the left and right but the words on it were faded and smudged to the point that I could no longer read it.
I decided to just pick a random direction so I went right.
But right before I fully entered the right hallway, I saw a white figure out of the corner of my eye, standing at the reception hall where I had just vacated.
I immediately stopped in my tracks and took a step back, looking back at the reception hall to see who it was.
The only problem was... I was no longer looking at the reception hall.
Instead, it was what looked like an operating theatre with the doors broken off its hinges and an operating table inside that was soaked with dried blood that seemed to cake the entire surface.
I frowned at the sight, wondering if I got transported to another location again but the corridor I was standing in looked similar.
I took another step forward before moving back again, looking back to see if the scenery had changed again.
It made no difference as the operating theatre was still there, so I decided to check out that place first.
Stepping past the broken doors that were laying on the floor, I looked around the operating room, figuring that it might be some kind of clue to the next floor.
After all... I was here to complete this floor and I’m not sure if there are rules to this place that I need to fulfil before I could get out of here and move to the next floor.
The operating room was... Basically nothing special, aside from the bloodied table and the broken pieces of medical machines that I don’t recognise.
I even checked the operating table itself to see if there was any clue on it but aside from just looking disgusting, there was nothing remarkable about it.
I made a face at the fact that I wasted my time here, right as I noticed a white figure moving past the T-junction that I had been in earlier.
I immediately snapped my head to face the hallway, only to see no one there.
Without hesitation, I rushed over to the hallway and looked in the direction of where the white figure had been moving in, only to see nothing but an empty hallway.
I clucked my tongue in annoyance because I was sure that I wasn’t seeing things and there’s some white figure that was messing with me right now.
Deciding not to dwell on it since whatever that was most likely wouldn’t show itself to me unless it wanted to, I continued walking down the hallway that I had intended to walk down to begin with.
The corridor was quite a mess.
There were the broken ceiling tiles, the scratches on the wall and broken plaster, the rusted gurneys and wheelchairs lining up the corridor, and also furniture and stuff stacked at the side of the corridor.
On each side were more doors that led to patient wards, all of them in various states of disrepair and completely empty, which I was able to see at a glance since all of them had the glass windows at the top of the door.
Each time I peered in, I was kind of half hoping that face would appear again because I was fully prepared to kick the door in the moment the face reappeared.
I really want to slam the door on the bugger who jumpscared me.
As I moved to the next door, I stopped in my tracks when I noticed that in this particular room, the room was not empty.
There were four beds in this room, three of them broken with two of them missing the mattress while the last one was still relatively intact.
On the bed that was intact, there was a person laying on it and it looked like they were strapped to the bed as well to hold them down.
I pushed open the door carefully, checking inside to see if there was anyone else but aside from the person on the bed, the room was empty.
I also waited to see if the person would react but... They just continued to lie there, not saying anything or even moving despite the loud creaking sound from the door I pushed open.
I then decided to step inside the room and I could somehow tell the atmosphere had changed slightly.
Looking behind, the door and the corridor were still there but it just felt different somehow.
Ignoring that for now, I went over to the bed to check the person out, only to see that... They had no face... Making him one of the Faceless Ones.
I clucked my tongue and stepped back from it, right as I heard the sound of someone crying coming from the corridor.
I went to peek outside, only to recoil slightly as I realised the empty corridor was no longer empty.
The corridor was now filled with various Faceless Ones, all of them either just standing around, sitting on the wheelchairs or laying in the gurneys and completely unmoving.
And yet... There was still a crying sound coming from somewhere...
Right as I wondered if I should do anything to them, I saw the back of a guy who was wearing modern clothes that had a sling bag behind him.
Is that... Grant?
