Westminster Bank
Chapter 532 - 292: Killing Intent Grows Like Weeds (Part 2)
"Well, well. It seems Mr. Constantine has taken issue with me." Elder Pence’s hand tightened slightly on his cane.
Baron shook off Kasha’s grip and repeated, word by word, "I just want to ask you, Elder Pence. Tell me, do you like the feeling of being hunted all over the world?"
Elder Pence said, "Has Mr. Constantine eaten a Dragon Heart as well? Why else would you be spouting such nonsense."
"Tell me, do you like the feeling of being hunted all over the world?" Baron repeated the same sentence.
The onlooking Law Enforcers realized something was amiss and looked on in confusion at the Dragon Knight and Elder Pence.
Abraham stopped the Demon Hunters who were about to maintain order. He shook his head at them and said,
"Don’t worry, Baron Constantin won’t act. If he can escape so many hunts and even manage to turn the tables, he’s no fool who lacks a sense of the bigger picture."
It wasn’t just Abraham; the other Old Blood Clan Elders and the upper echelons of the Law Enforcement Organization felt the same. They all believed the Dragon Knight’s sudden outburst was likely a play to extort some benefit from the Hestia Family.
Even Governor Howard thought so. In his impression, Baron Constantin had always been more rational than emotional and exceptionally skilled at adapting to changing circumstances. His answers during the interview had proven this from every angle.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given Baron an "S Level" in his interview evaluation—an assessment of his compatibility with Westminster Bank’s culture, not a measure of the strength of his Destiny.
After all, in his view, killing a veteran Old Blood Clan Elder in front of so many Law Enforcement Organizations and Old Blood Clans was an extremely irrational act, one where the reward was inversely proportional to the risk.
Furthermore, even if Baron did attack, there were nearly twenty Bronze Tier Law Enforcers present, including the several silent Old Blood Clan Elders and high-ranking officials from the Law Enforcement Organization.
And that was to say nothing of the two Silver Knights from the Holy Hall and the Golden Demon Hunter, Abraham Van Helsing.
The power of the Golden Tier wasn’t a simple exponential increase; it was a power that touched the very essence of the Law. By Howard’s estimation, even if everyone present attacked at once, they would struggle to make Abraham use even a tenth of his strength.
Although he was currently constrained by the Golden Mage’s restrictions here and couldn’t easily make a move, subduing Baron would still be a simple matter.
Thus, Howard wondered with a businessman’s rationality, ’What benefit is Baron trying to get from the Hestia Family? Is he trying to extort Taboo Items or Gold? Or is this just a simple provocation?’
’But none of that matters,’ Howard thought. ’As long as Baron Constantin stays alive.’
Most of the false accusations against the Dragon Knight had already been cleared. Now, as long as Westminster Bank spent some money to bribe the jury and used a few tricks to pressure the presiding judge, they should be able to clear him of the remaining charges.
Elder Pence said lightly, "Mr. Constantine, you must be mistaken. I am but a common Elder of the Hestia Family. I simply don’t have enough power to make so many Law Enforcement Organizations and Old Blood Clans hunt you."
"They were merely acting on the verdict issued against you by the Prole Court. That is all."
After listening to Elder Pence’s explanation, Baron simply continued to stare into the Elder’s eyes, repeating word by word, "Tell me, do you, or do you not, like the feeling of being hunted all over the world."
"Baron Constantin, you despicable Lawbreaker! You’d better make your tone more respectful! Elder Pence is not someone you can boss around!"
A Griffin Knight stepped out, positioning himself between Baron and Elder Pence.
But Baron just swept a glance over him, and the Knight instinctively shut his mouth. He shivered, a strange illusion taking hold of him—’I should just kneel!’
’How is that possible! Even when I first received my Knight’s Lawbook and was glanced at from afar by the Griffin King, I never felt a presence so powerful, like countless knives hanging over my head!’
Only when the Lawbreaker’s gaze moved away did the Griffin Knight begin to gasp for air, suddenly realizing his back was soaked, as if he had just fought a desperate battle in a dense fog.
’This... is the pressure of a Dragon Knight!? It’s truly this terrifying!’
The Knight’s reaction did not go unnoticed by the higher-ups of the Law Enforcement Organizations. They exchanged glances, each seeing the grave look in the others’ eyes.
And it was at this moment that Baron turned back to Elder Pence and repeated, word by word, "Tell me, Elder Pence, do you like the feeling of being hunted all over the world?"
Repetition again... As everyone knows, repetition implies emphasis.
Howard’s brow twitched. He signaled for Stella to pull Baron back.
Stella adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses and sent a telepathic message using her Spiritual Power, telling Baron to be mindful of the situation and not get carried away. He was representing Westminster Bank now, and with so many Law Enforcers and Old Blood Clan Elders watching like vultures, he absolutely could not act rashly and give them an opening.
Baron did not reply.
’Based on her years of experience in reading people, he might actually be furious.’
Her training as an excellent secretary dictated that her first move should be to report this to the governor, and then let him decide whether to drag Baron Constantin away by force, or knock him unconscious before dragging him away.
But when Stella saw the battered and bruised Baron and thought of Jack lying in the Holding Ring, she sent him another telepathic message:
"In any case, if it comes to that, I can find you the best lawyer in London for your appeal."
She then told Governor Howard, "Mr. Constantine just wants to use this opportunity to humiliate Elder Pence. It’s perfectly normal. People need to vent."
Beneath her black veil, Kasha’s emerald eyes flashed.
"Tell me..."
"Is that all you want to ask? Very well, I’ll tell you."
Seeing everyone’s eyes on him—including those of his fellow Old Blood Clan Elders—and wanting to stop this madman from spouting more nonsense, Elder Pence interrupted.
"The Prole Court’s verdict against you has absolutely nothing to do with the Hestia Family! Even if you didn’t assassinate Anthony, and even if your collusion with the Dragon Witch is just a rumor, the facts that you blew up King’s Cross Station and killed and attacked Law Enforcers are indisputable.
"The Knights and Demon Hunters were simply acting in accordance with the Law! There was never any talk of deliberately targeting you!"
"I don’t care about that." The Dragon Knight, however, just shook his head. "I’m only asking if you like the feeling of being constantly hunted."
Elder Pence froze for a moment, then after a brief silence, said, "I don’t."
"Is that so?" the Dragon Knight said coolly. "Neither do I."
He suddenly began walking toward Elder Pence.
An Old Blood Clan Elder shouted for him to stop, or he would be killed without question.
As he spoke, he signaled the Griffin Knights to advance, brandishing their weapons and flaring their Spiritual Pressure in a show of force.
And indeed, the Dragon Knight stopped.
Seeing this, the Old Blood Clan Elder breathed a sigh of relief. ’No matter how brilliant this Dragon Knight is, he wouldn’t dare make a scene with so many Law Enforcers and Old Blood Clan leaders present.’
Howard also let out a sigh of relief. ’I thought Constantine was really going to kill Elder Pence right here, consequences be damned.’
’But it’s fine. Constantine is the S Level talent I personally evaluated; he would never make such an unprofitable move.’
Just then, he saw Constantine standing his ground. Facing him were the Griffin Knights, poised for battle, yet it was as if the Dragon Knight didn’t see them at all. His iron-black eyes reflected only the figure of Elder Pence.
And reflected in those eyes, Elder Pence’s face, usually as placid as a still well, showed a complex mix of emotions for the first time: anger, fear, surprise... and killing intent.
