Westminster Bank

Chapter 531 - 292: Killing Intent Grows Like Wild Grass

"If Westminster chose to act on these debts right now, I wonder what would happen to all of your families and organizations?"

At Governor Howard’s words, everyone fell silent.

This included the Holy Hall, the Holy Hall, and the Holy Mechanism—the core organizations vying for Baron.

Abraham even let out a laugh, a note of dark humor in the sound.

Baron whispered, "Debts? Westminster lent these people money? What happens if they all refuse to pay it back?"

In his past life, Baron had heard rumors about debt collectors being surrounded and beaten up by an entire village of debtors, with even the police being helpless to intervene upon arrival.

In the Inner Side, with so many self-proclaimed Old Bloods who were, in reality, just troublemakers, if all these families and organizations banded together, Westminster might not be able to collect its debts.

Kasha said with surprise, "Lending? No, Mr. Constantine, you’ve got it all wrong."

"It’s not Westminster that lent to them, but they who lent to Westminster."

S Level agent Kasha explained, "They’re afraid Westminster Bank won’t repay the money it owes *them*."

Baron: "..."

’Figures the finance guys would be this badass,’ Baron thought. ’As a mere corporate drone in his past life, he couldn’t even have imagined such a move.’

"Since no one has any objections, we’ll consider a consensus reached."

Governor Howard, looking triumphant, snapped his fingers. Down the mountain, the Pure-blood Ancient Dragon let out a cry, then lowered its body, like an airplane putting down its boarding ramp, ready for them to embark.

He glanced back at Traitor’s Cliff and said to Abraham, "The Wizards from London Tower probably won’t be able to make it for a while."

"Why? Did the London Tower blow up?" Abraham quipped.

To Abraham’s surprise, Governor Howard actually nodded. "Something did blow up, but it wasn’t the London Tower. It was the various stations in Inner London."

Abraham’s expression grew grim. "What did you say? All the stations in Inner London were bombed? Where’s the Golden Mage?"

Howard replied, "The Golden Mage is in the East for an ’academic exchange.’ At least, that’s the official story from the London Tower."

He looked up at the sky. "But by my estimation, that fellow has likely already foreseen everything that’s happened here. If I’m not mistaken, the Vice Tower Master should be arriving shortly."

Howard looked at Baron, who understood the unspoken message. His eyes met Isabella’s, and he gave her a nod in farewell.

He silently scanned his surroundings and let out a heavy sigh. What filled him was not a sense of safety, but one of absurd unreality.

’My life as a fugitive... it’s over, just like that?’

’All those days of running, all those days of fighting... and it all just comes to an end here?’

Just then, Stella returned. Baron asked about Jack’s body, and Stella replied faintly, "He’s lying in my Holding Ring."

Baron nodded. He didn’t say anything, nor did he ask.

Some things were better left unsaid.

He turned and followed Howard.

As he passed the Law Enforcers, he saw Freya watching him in silence. The Lancelot Family Head stood beside her, his gaze just as silent, his eyes flickering with an emotion that was impossible to name.

Baron understood that emotion. There was a time when he had been swept forward by that very same feeling.

Even now, that emotion still made him feel anger and sorrow... yet the very people who caused it all simply watched him with cold indifference.

He slowly turned his head and saw Wilder walking away toward Wizard K. The Celestial Horse Yisur looked at him with disgust, but Baron knew it wasn’t hostility from Yisur itself. It was just that Wilder, as a fastidious Celestial Horse Knight, was repulsed by the blood covering him.

He saw Gold, Adam, and Dewey, all renowned elite Demon Hunters of the Inner Side, standing stiffly beside Abraham like chastened schoolchildren.

He saw Hilde, Hamilton, and the other members of the Old Blood Nobility huddled together, sizing him up with meaningful looks, like humans studying a lion through the bars of a cage.

He saw the Pound Siblings staring at him in a daze, saw Barbara with her ever-present charming smile, and saw the gazes of the Law Enforcers, filled with covetousness and desire...

Finally, his gaze fell on Elder Pence. The Elder was looking back at him, his eyes chillingly cold, devoid of any emotion, light, or shadow—like the blackest Abyss.

’Everything... does it all really end like this?’

Baron suddenly stopped in his tracks. He turned to Elder Pence and asked, "Elder Pence, tell me, do you like the feeling of being hunted across the world?"

The moment the words left his mouth, the entire area fell silent. Everyone stopped to look at Baron, seemingly confused as to why he would suddenly say such a thing at a time like this.

A provocation?

Elder Pence narrowed his eyes, his gaze sweeping impassively over the surrounding Law Enforcers. "Am I to take that as a threat, Mr. Constantine?"

"Don’t think this matter is so easily concluded," Elder Pence said. "Your sins have not yet been fully cleansed."

"Constantine..." Kasha’s voice reached Baron via Spiritual Power. "Don’t be reckless."

His secretary, Stella, pushed up her gold-rimmed glasses. "The Hestia Family should focus on cleaning up its own mess first. I trust you’ll be receiving a notice from the Prole Court soon enough.

Having so many Dragon Devourer Cultists infiltrating the Hestia Family is an extremely serious incident for any Old Blood Family in the Inner Side. I just wonder how Elder Pence will choose to dispose of them."

Elder Pence smiled. "They will, of course, be dealt with according to their station. Westminster need not concern itself with the matter."

"Then we look forward to seeing you again in the Prole Court."

Howard glanced at Kasha. She tried to pull Baron away, but the Dragon Knight remained rooted to the spot, his gaze fixed on Elder Pence, deep and unnervingly still.
