Chapter 512 - 282: Killing Roy (Part 2)
As the smoke from the explosion cleared, Roy felt an agonizing pain in his rear.
But when he looked down, he discovered that his draconic lower body was gone.
The member of the Blood Race who called himself Baron Constantin was choking him, lifting his upper torso into the air. He tilted his head and said, "Feeling a sense of déjà vu?"
A sharp pain then shot through Roy’s chest. Baron Constantin was manipulating blood, slicing open his chest from the inside.
Then, he shoved two Blood Blades into the open cavity, preventing him from healing.
"Why can you use the power of the Blood Race... Why..."
Roy coughed up a mouthful of blood with every word, but even so, the disbelief in his tone was unmistakable.
Baron Constantin silently gripped the hilts and pushed them deeper into Roy’s chest as he spoke.
"As a reward for answering my questions earlier, I can tell you. The reason I can use the power of the Blood Race is because I’m dual-classing as a Blood Demon Hunter and a Dragon Knight."
"Dual-classing?"
"It means having two professions," Baron shrugged. "You can think of it as me being both a Demon Hunter and a Contract Knight."
"Two professions..."
Roy’s eyes widened, and he murmured, "How is that possible... How could you have two professions... A Blood Demon Hunter... What kind of faction is that?"
"Maybe it’s a Vampire Hunter, maybe not. But I don’t think they’re all that different."
"So you didn’t die before?"
"I did die. You crushed my heart. There’s no surviving that."
"Then you..."
"How did I come back to life? Ghosts. You know about ghosts?"
Seeing Roy nod, Baron said, "It has nothing to do with that. I was resurrected by Promoting. I was actually taking a gamble, but just as I expected, if life is a gamble..."
He paused.
Roy saw an inscrutable expression appear on Baron Constantin’s handsome face—the look of a sage who had just reached enlightenment.
"I am the best gambler."
Then, the sage-like figure murmured to himself, "I see now... I see... So that’s how it is... That’s how it is."
He suddenly looked at Roy. "When did Martin, the president of the Dragon Eater Association, disappear?"
He had learned of the disappearance of Martin, the president of the Dragon Eater Association, from Norton’s Wandering Soul.
And as it happened, he had once impersonated the man using the [Chain of the Imitator]—though a peculiar trait of the chain meant he had been unable to see what Martin actually looked like.
Roy was stunned for a moment, then said, "Martin, the president of the Dragon Eater Association, disappeared three years ago... but he’d already started to gradually withdraw from the Association’s affairs five years ago."
"When was the last time you saw him?"
"Five years ago," Roy said, gasping for breath.
Having gotten the answer he wanted, Baron nodded. He looked at Roy and said, "Is all Dragon Attendants’ Life Force as tenacious as yours?"
Then Roy saw Baron Constantin smile at him. "I almost forgot to ask. How do you think a person can come back to life without a heart?"
Roy felt the terror of his chest being sliced open by the blades. His voice trembled as he asked, "A Taboo Item?"
But Baron Constantin tapped his own chest with the flat of a blade. "You idiot. It’s hatred."
Then, right in front of Dewey Frank and the others who had just arrived, he ripped out Roy’s heart. And over Elder Pence’s shouts to stop, he crushed it!
Roy let out a dying groan and gasped his last breath. The light faded from his eyes, and his struggling body went limp, dangling like a burnt-out, ashen branch.
He was now just a lifeless corpse.
Baron Constantin tossed the corpse to the draconic Cultists, watching as they lost all reason, greedily fighting and tearing at the body like a pack of hungry wolves fighting over a scrap of meat.
He turned to face the newly arrived Dewey, Elder Pence, and their group. Behind Elder Pence, he saw Freya staring at him with astonishment, probably because he looked truly terrifying right now.
A Law Enforcer beside Dewey stared blankly at Baron and said, "Is that the legendary Dragon Knight?"
"What happened...? In the projection, wasn’t it Roy who had him captured...? Now... now it’s the other way around."
Dewey was also stunned for a moment. Then he took a step forward, his gaze pausing on the two Blood Blades in Baron’s hands before he spoke.
"Baron Constantin, it’s all over. The Law Enforcement Organization has this place surrounded. There’s no escape."
Baron ignored Dewey and instead addressed Elder Pence. "It seems Elder Pence has also seen the scene I’ve been broadcasting. I wonder what your thoughts are on the fact that an elite scion of your family is a Cultist of the Dragon Eater Association?"
"Since Roy Hestia is dead, he has atoned for his sins. But you... Baron Constantin..."
Elder Pence’s gaze fell upon Roy’s corpse, which was being devoured in an instant by the dragon-transformed Dragon Devourer Cultists. A flicker of barely perceptible sorrow crossed his eyes, which then twisted into a ferocious scowl.
"Even if you aren’t a Dragon Devourer Cultist, the fact that you colluded with the Dragon Witch, bombed King’s Cross Station, and murdered a Templar Knight is indisputable! As an Elder of the Hestia Family and the former Knight Commander of the Griffin Knight Order, I have the authority to act as I see fit!"
His tone was grim as he ordered the Law Enforcers behind him and Dewey, "Kill him!"
But aside from the Griffin Knights by his side, no one moved.
The Law Enforcers quietly watched the young man at the center of their circle. They watched as he defeated the charging Griffin Knights in a single exchange. They watched the Knights die in agony, incinerated by flames, their bodies twisting into charred husks.
Elder Pence was also stunned, because he saw Baron Constantin, after finishing all this, staring at him with a chilling gaze. Those Golden Eyes carried a surging Dragon Mighty that washed over him.
He almost thought he wasn’t facing Baron Constantin, but a noble Ancient Dragon so majestic one couldn’t bear to look at it directly. And this Ancient Dragon had just set its sights on him, intending to tear him to shreds and roast him to a cinder with its flames.
Elder Pence narrowed his eyes, causing the wrinkles on his face to bunch together, making him look like a cunning old dog.
He looked at the surrounding Law Enforcers and said:
"Surely you don’t intend to conspire with the Lawbreaker, Baron Constantin?"
The Law Enforcers exchanged glances.
Just then, a rustling sound came from the woods. Several squads of neatly uniformed Knights emerged from the forest. Judging by their attire, these Knights belonged to the Holy Hall’s Six Great Knight Orders.
The one in the lead was a Celestial Horse Knight. He claimed to have seen a beacon on the other side of the Dracul Mountain Range and had therefore brought his squad of Templar Knights, who were undergoing a Trial, over.
This squad was composed of elites from the Holy Hall’s Six Great Knight Orders, all of them candidates for the Dragon Heart Knight Order, the most vital component of the Templar Knights. The lowest-ranked among them was Black Iron Tier, and the oldest was no more than twenty-four. They were, without a doubt, the future pillars of the Holy Hall.
The one in charge of their training exercise was the lead Celestial Horse Knight. He was the Knight Commander of the Celestial Horse Knight Order, and his Spiritual Pressure was at the Bronze Tier.
Elder Pence was overjoyed. He immediately explained the situation to the squad leader. The Knight Commander of the Celestial Horse Knight Order nodded and allowed his Templar Knights to treat the capture of Baron Constantin as part of their Trial.
The Knights were rubbing their hands together, brimming with excitement.
Baron, however, just sighed and said, "I don’t want to fool around with you, but if any of you want to die, feel free to come up and try."
"Such arrogance!" The words had barely left his mouth when a man stepped out from the ranks of the Templar Knights. His Spiritual Pressure indicated he was Black Iron Tier, and the insignia on his chest plate showed he was a Wild Boar Knight from the Six Great Knight Orders.
But the onlookers felt that for this man to dare be the first to challenge the legendary Dragon Knight, he must have had something special up his sleeve.
Then, they witnessed the world’s fastest battle.
With a great shout, the Wild Boar Knight charged forward. Then, with a low grunt, he was sent flying backward, crashing through five or six pine trees before landing in a cloud of dust.
