Chapter 501 276: Dragon Knight (2)

  • Next Chapter

The Knight said, "The Dragon Eater Association has two Third Generation Species Dragon Attendants guarding Baron Constantin!"

"The Law Enforcers were all severely injured by him! Jiang Ge of the Holy Cross Association is dead! Gold has fallen into a coma!

A Saint from the Holy Mechanism was abducted by a Third Generation Dragon Descendant—their condition is unknown. Two Battle Nuns are in pursuit of the Dragon."

Everyone was horrified.

Dewey, who had been as silent as Freya, his gaze occasionally flickering between her and Elder Pence, suddenly turned pale. "Zick is there too!"

To Dewey Frank, Zick was the most talented young Old Race member in the Frank Family after himself. He was destined to become Dewey's right-hand man once Dewey became the Patriarch. That oaf Bill couldn't even compare in terms of importance.

Elder Pence made a swift decision. "Gather some men and head to Traitor's Cliff at once!" he ordered.

Dewey frowned. Pound froze for a moment, then said, "But isn't Baron Constantin attacking the Lion Eye Knight Order's base? Why are we going to Traitor's Cliff...?"

Hilde cut him off. "By the time we get to the Dragon Family ruins, Baron Constantin will be long gone. It would be a wasted trip. The Dragon Witch's target is the Mad Dragon at Traitor's Cliff. This attack and the Dragon Tide are most likely diversions to draw us away and buy the Witch time."

Windsor said, "But Mr. Wilder..."

Windsor's meaning was clear: were they just going to abandon Silver Lion Wilder here to face the Dragon Tide alone?

Wizard K spoke up. "I can stay. Berthelili's Alchemy Defense Matrix is complete; it just needs me to stay here and maintain it."

He gazed into the distance, where dazzling, world-shaking silver sword slashes tore through the Dragon Tide. Vast swaths of the horde disintegrated and vanished under those immense cuts. Even a roaring Third Generation Species that charged forward was hacked to pieces after withstanding just three blows, its remains immediately swallowed by the tide of dragons behind it.

Even the Silver-Tier-equivalent subspecies within the Dragon Tide couldn't withstand Wilder's assault. It was too slow to catch him, but its hide was so tough that even the renowned Silver Lion Wilder of the Inner Side struggled to pierce its defenses. This was because it was an Iron Mountain Dragon, a type of Mountain Dragon Subspecies.

Its hide possessed the hardness of thousand-year-old Profound Steel, one of the most durable materials used in the Alchemy Realm. For the moment, neither Wilder nor the dragon could gain the upper hand.

Overall, however, the Iron Mountain Dragon was losing the engagement. There were always lulls in their direct confrontation, and Wilder would use these brief, seconds-long openings to unleash his silver sword—dozens of feet long—and cleave through a quarter of the surrounding Dragon Tide with a single horizontal sweep.

Wizard K paused, then added, "Mr. Wilder told me he can keep this up for another half hour. Reinforcements will likely have arrived by then. So, I just need to stay here and provide support."

The others followed his gaze to the figure of Silver Lion Wilder and found themselves agreeing with his assessment.

But Dewey interjected, "My apologies, but in that case, I'm going to the Dragon Family ruins. Zick is a young member of my Frank Family, an Old Race. As his older cousin, I can't just stand by and do nothing."

His gaze swept over the Law Enforcers from the various Demon Hunter Clans. "Who will come with me?"

Immediately, several members of the Frank Family and other Old Race members allied with them stepped forward.

And so, one group followed Dewey to the Lion Eye Knight Order's base, while another group of Law Enforcers, led by Elder Pence, marched toward Traitor's Cliff. Within their ranks, Freya stared at Elder Pence's back, her eyes flashing with a mixture of deep hatred and fear.

'I don't know what that man is planning,' Freya thought, 'but my instincts tell me it's nothing good.' She secretly wrote a message on the paper Balense had given her.

...

Baron felt a sudden pang in his chest. He immediately took the Secret Notes from his Holding Ring and read the message from Freya. His brow furrowed instantly.

'Traitor's Cliff... Is the Dragon Eater Association planning to pin the blame for opening the Mad Dragon Seal on Carmen?'

He put away the notes and continued toward the Dragon Family ruins. 'The situation at Traitor's Cliff will have to wait until after I expose the "Fake Baron" at the ruins,' he thought. 'Still, I remember we flew near that area on our way from Inner London to Berthelili. Using [Illusory Cocoon] to get there later shouldn't be a problem.'

'As for Carmen...' He tried to sense her through their Blood Covenant but still felt nothing. 'Presumably, she isn't in any danger yet.'

'But even if she is in trouble, if a Silver-Tier Witch can't handle it, a mere Bronze Tier like me would just be throwing my life away... Crap, the bloodlust is back. I need to move faster.'

...

Back at the Dragon Family ruins, the battle was drawing to a close.

Lucy knew she was going to die. As Gold collapsed in disbelief, she realized she would be next. Just like the other Knights from the Lion Eye Knight Order and Jiang Ge from the Holy Cross Association, she was about to have her heart run through from behind by that son of a bitch, Sad.

Sad pinched her chin, forcing her head up. The angle made her face look poignantly beautiful. A flash of admiration crossed Sad's eyes before he smiled and said:

"My sincerest apologies, Miss Beowulf. I had originally planned to let you go, to let you run and sound the alarm... But I never expected you to see through my disguise. In that case, my hands are tied."

Lucy said, "Sad... I knew it was you."
