Chapter 500 275: Dragon Knight (1)
Before anyone could react, a muffled grunt echoed from the darkness. With a flick of his hand, Jill recalled the Griffin Feather. The surrounding crowd gasped.
A savage, semi-humanoid creature dangled from the end of the Griffin Feather. Its pierced chest heaved violently, and a wheezing sound, like a cross between a car engine and a train whistle, rattled in its throat.
Aile said, "That's..."
"A Dragon Devourer Cultist that Transformed into a Dragon by consuming a Dragon Descendant," Jill said grimly. "We're surrounded by the Dragon Eater Association."
He then ran the Dragon Devourer Cultist through with the Griffin Feather once and for all, then turned to the Griffin Knight beside him. "You, take a few Knights and station yourselves in the auction hall to protect these guests. You must patrol in pairs. If there's trouble, tell the Griffins."
He added, "The rest of the Knights, with me!"
He sent a telepathic message to Aile using his Spiritual Power, "Change of plans. In a moment, I will use [Promise] to open a path for you. Get on a Griffin and go alone. You must set off the signal in the Dracul Mountain Range."
Aile said, "I can't just leave you all behind."
Jill said, "You won't have to. I'm not going to die. Not before I see Roy fully recover and Freya and I get married."
Jill said, "When you see that bastard Baron Constantin, send him my regards. Tell him I haven't forgotten what he did to Roy and Anthony. I will have my revenge for my brother and my friend."
With that, Jill led the Knights and charged out. As he had instructed, people hurled torches into the darkness from behind them. The flickering arcs landed ahead, illuminating a savage and formidable horde—Dragon Devourer Cultists who had Transformed into Dragons and a strange type of creature that was human from the waist up and dragon from the waist down (Dragon Attendants).
Without hesitation, Aile leaped onto a swooping Griffin. Using [Lion's Eye] to intimidate all the Dragon Devourer Cultists in the way, Aile followed behind Jill, trying to carve a bloody path forward.
And while they were trying to carve a bloody path, the Law Enforcers fighting the Dragon Tide were already drowning in a sea of blood.
Dead Dragon Descendants and Old Races were everywhere, along with the bobbing, skeletal remains of unidentifiable creatures.
This was the front line against the Dragon Tide, the very outskirts of Bertelili Town. The people here had all been engulfed by the Dragon Tide. When the Law Enforcers returned to this place, led by Silver Lion Wilder, they were met with a scene that looked as if it came from Hell itself.
"Fucking hell! How has no one killed that bitch, the Dragon Witch, yet?!"
A Knight, his sense of justice overflowing, saw the scene before him and burned with rage, wishing he could kill the Dragon Witch and Dragon Devourer Cultists who hid in the shadows, orchestrating everything and causing the current catastrophe.
Adam the Demon Hunter also grew uncharacteristically serious. "Some of the dragons in the Dragon Tide are Dragon Attendants, transformed from Dragon Devourer Cultists. These are the same beings I saw at Dragon Spear Plaza in the Dracul Mountain Range. Without a doubt, this Dragon Tide was almost certainly started by the Dragon Devourer Cultists."
Pound grabbed his sister Windsor's hand and pulled her behind him, saying indignantly, "This is all because of that bastard Baron Constantin! If he hadn't colluded with the Dragon Witch and taken this opportunity to attack the Lion Eye Knight Order, none of this would have happened!"
Wizard K, at the front of the group, said, "I seem to recall Baron Constantin clashing with the Dragon Eater Association at Dragon Spear Plaza. Why are you so certain he's colluding with the Dragon Witch and the Dragon Devourer Cultists?"
Pound said, "Isn't it obvious? The man was originally a Bloodless, but then he suddenly transformed into a Dragon Knight. If he didn't make a deal with the Witch, how could he possibly have a Knight's Lawbook?"
"As for his previous battle with the Dragon Devourer Cultists in the Dracul Mountain Range, that was probably just for show, an illusion created to fool us. Right, Windsor?"
Windsor didn't answer, only saying, "Brother, ready your Magic Staff and Magic Cards. We're about to engage the Dragon Tide again."
Wizard Hilde smiled. "Judging from the last battle, Mr. Pound's combat experience really doesn't compare to Miss Windsor's."
But this time, the hot-tempered Pound didn't retort as he had before. He simply said:
"Of course. Windsor is number one among the third-year students at Edinburgh Wizard Academy. Her Wizard's Lawbook wasn't given to her by our family; it was awarded by Edinburgh Wizard Academy as a prize for being an outstanding student."
This response surprised Hilde. He had meant to provoke Pound, trying to get some payback for their confrontation in the auction house. Pound's straightforward reply, however, left him at a loss.
Hilde was about to say something more, but he caught Freya's icy stare. Understanding that this young lady of the Lancelot family was not to be trifled with, he resentfully shut his mouth.
Elder Pence then said with a cryptic air, "Miss Freya, you have been staring at this old man for a while. Is there something on my face?"
Freya said, "It's nothing. I was just thinking that it's quite a feat for you, Elder Pence, to join us in stopping the Dragon Tide, being our senior."
Elder Pence said, "I'm just a pile of old bones anyway. What's wrong with doing something meaningful for everyone?"
Freya snorted coldly and said no more. Instead, she looked at Barbara. "Miss Barbara, everything is ready. You can begin."
Barbara stared at the hellish scene before her, her thoughts unreadable. Finally, she said grimly:
"Mr. Wilder has already gone to the front to confront that Silver Tier subspecies. There are also two Third Generation Species there. We need to finish setting up the Alchemy Matrix here quickly and catch up to him. We can't let him fight all by himself."
The Law Enforcers all nodded. Although Wilder and a few Lion-eyed Knights were holding back the Dragon Tide at the front, the tide's sheer numbers and broad scope meant some creatures were bound to slip through. Therefore, at Wizard K's suggestion, they decided to set up an Alchemy Matrix outside Bertelili Town to block the Dragon Tide.
They just had to hold on until the two Black Iron Mages sent to Traitor's Cliff could successfully deliver the message and reinforcements from the Law Enforcement Organization arrived.
Once everyone had finished their assigned preparations, Wizard K and several other Wizards began chanting an ancient Celtic Spell, using the blood left on the ground to activate the Alchemy Matrix and encircle Bertelili.
After completing this, the Law Enforcers were about to head to the Dragon Tide to support Wilder when a battered Griffin Knight came running from a short distance away.
Elder Pence frowned. "That's one of the Knights who went with Knight Commander Sad to the Dragon Family ruins to support the Lion Eye Knight Order. What's he doing here?"
The Griffin Knight shouted as he ran, "Baron Constantin! Baron Constantin and those Dragon Devourer Cultists wiped out the Lion Eye Knight Order!"
Everyone froze at the news, then stood stunned, as if struck by lightning.
Freya's fine brows knitted together as she said, "What nonsense are you spouting? Baron Constantin wiped out the entire Lion Eye Knight Order?"
It wasn't that she doubted Constantin had the strength; after all, she had witnessed his combat prowess in the Dracul Mountain Range.
'The Baron Constantin at the Dragon Family ruins must be an impostor. The real one, that lecherous bastard, should still be at the auction house trying to figure out how to escape the Griffin Knights' encirclement... With this fake acting so brazenly, if the genuine Baron doesn't hurry up and expose him, he's probably going to end up taking the blame for yet another incident.'
Of course, she couldn't reveal Baron Constantin's true identity, so to the others, her words simply sounded like she was shocked by the Baron's power and actions.
Elder Pence calmed the Griffin Knight down, then immediately asked:
"What about the Law Enforcers who went to provide support? Knight Commander Sad, Faith Knight Jiang Ge of the Holy Cross Association, the Saint and Battle Nuns of the Holy Mechanism, and Lucy of the Beowulf Family—if they were all there, how could Baron Constantin have possibly prevailed against them?"
