Chapter 710: The Trap Of Power

There is many people who debate about creations of invention all over the world.

They debated who created this certain invention first and take that as a source of pride.

Like this is built here first , so look at our ancestors, how smart they are

Yet, such boasting did not mean the new generation is as smart as those past generations

It is nonsensical boasting that did not even make sense when you delve deeper into it

But....maybe in some corner of the world, where certain invention should not have appear according to our own understanding of history, there is people who is inspired and created something out of the time that they should appear

But there is no one to popularized it.

and sometimes it is even suppressed

It is the same reason.

Certain invention harm the entrenched interest

It happens in the ancient world and it happens in the modern world

Those who were dominant during the copper era probably hurled insult at those bronze age weapon that defeated them

Then the bronze age empires are defeated by the iron age empire.

And so on and so forth and the ruling class would always suppress any invention that would shake their interest until it could no longer be suppressed and the interest class that suppresses it dies or be bathed in blood of the new era

And then a new ruling class appears and they too would try to do what their predecessor do and try to suppress the new inventions

Humans learns nothing.

Even if history is written in stones, paper, or even carved on the walls of mountain for everyone to see, they read it, they watch it, they promise they would not forget it, but in the end, they would always repeat it all the same

Because humans always felt like they were the exception

That they would be the one to succeed when the people before them did not

But history has shown, that the steps they take is the same step that their predecessors take.

Then if the step are the same, the rise are the same, then it follows to reason that the fall would also be the same

Hubris.

Pride.

And simple neglect and underestimation of the wisdom of the past has always led to the fall of these ruling class.

Just because they are the ruling class does not mean that they are smart. Some of them are very stupid. Some of them are stupid because of pride. Some of them are stupid because they lack education

And some are stupid because they are woefully ignorant of the trend of the world and the hearts of the people.

They are so sued in controlling the hearts of the people that sometimes, they forget that the people are not always static and power, especially mortal power is never eternal.

The very fact that humans are mortal and would die suggests that life....is always changing

In the future, it is the same.

A n invention or a more powerful system could change the world.

But monopolies would not like such competition. And instead of waiting until that competition could grow up, they would strangle it in the cradle.

Those entrenched interest in the ancient world is no different than monopolies in capitalism.

Capitalism will always leads to consolidation and monopolies which would always stifle free markets and any system when complex enough needs guardrail

Communism on the other hand requires a strong state power which would always easily be co-opted by people who will consolidate power

The difference is that the monopolies created consolidation in product, essential assets and wealth which will then turn into power and this power become absolute even more when one controls the means of production, means of living

It is just a slightly convoluted way of turning feudal once again.

The communism route for an ambitious and cruel person would be to take the state apparatus and turns it into a personal apparatus serving him instead of the state and the people of the state

It is a simple explanation and did not delve into details.

It is just the explanation that he could come up with his slight understanding of politics.

Before Aeryon would not think of such things.

But now he is a ruler and he has to think what kind of world he wanted to create and all of his simplistic thinking before has been subverted when he actually sit in the position of power.

He finally knew that it is not that easy to simply say that innovation is the catalyst for change.

He knew power and its trap

the steppe also has its own limitations and certain things that should not happen

When he made a decision there is many things he had to think about. It is a burden and responsibility of being a leader

Of course, if he just want to be leader that simply want wealth and want women and want the fame and glory, he did not have to think too much.

Just pass the buck to his descendant later and he could save himself pulling out of his own hair in frustration

But Aeryon did not start this ambition of his to make a mess of thing.

He wanted to stop the massacre of the Steppe people because he sees them as people

Not barbarians

And he wanted to dismantle the threat of the empires around them.

Empires would do what they do best which is to devour weak nations and only by being strong you could make this empire listen

If he is not in ana advantageous position and stuck in already failed situation, then Aeryon probably would choose a different method

But he is in the Steppe.

With a warrior culture.

And he had already the blueprint of a successful empire building in his own world

Genghis Khan shows the world what happens when the Steppe people united.

They could conquer the whole world!

Ayera on the other hand would not think too much.

She is very much bloodthirsty and her heart is not that forgiving.

Aeryon is thinking about all of this when Ayera once again spoke and brought him back to this conversation

"my brother send me a letter. He could bring his men and with the men I have we could kill Ogura. Wouldn’t that be good for you"

Aeryon only chuckles at this

"If it were that simple, you would have already done it instead of parading your men outside my city" Aeryon shakes his head

Ayera face tightened but she pretended not to hear what Aeryon had said and then she continue saying

"Utgard would surrender to you and as long as you could give me and my brother some respectable position and autonomy of ruling the Utgard tribe you would have an ally that is secure, that is reliable and that is intact"

Aeryon shakes his head again.

"You disappoint me, Ayera" there is a moment of silence between them.

Those words would probably hurt and made any of Aeryon subordinate rostrate themselves in front of the Khan

But Ayera let those words go inside her right ears and exited her left ears like it is the sound of the wind, sound of the bird’s chirpings passing by

Because she knew that her husband uses his words to unsettle people.

He is someone who did not take much stock in what he says as long as he could rattle the enemy

The only exception is when he promises someone. He would not promise things he would not and could not do.

Hence, he rarely promise anyone. But as long as he promises someone, he would do his best to fulfil it.

He closes his eyes for a moment and shakes his head again

"It is not time"

And another silence before Ayera suddenly said calmly

"When is it time?"

The voice is calm but it is anything but.

The killing intent is there.

It is just that she is now better at hiding it.

But could she hide it from Aeryon?

She could not

Because from the very beginning Aeryon already knows what his wife is really like.

She could be patient.

But she could not endure what others could not

She is born in power.

And as such, she has the advantage of people born to power and also the disadvantage of people born from power.

In history, if you seek the knowledge of rulers and peel back the history book pages, all of those great men that become rulers, especially those who rise from nothing, always share one common trait

They could endure what others could not and forgive and forget what others could not

Aeryon was also born to power. But he is also someone from another world.

What others might see as trampling of pride, he knew that momentary cowardice could become a fuel for future glory

If he won the world, there is countless scholars that would fight to whitewashed his name.

if he loses the world, no matter how virtuous he is, the pens of those historians would simply called him a bandit

Aeryon did not know what he would choose to do when that day comes but he believes that he could endures what others could not in his position.
