Chapter 709: Political Will

  • Next Chapter

The test of the dynasty begins later

The test was after the founder died

The question would be that...would the successor able to reconcile their predecessor founding heroes, manage their expectations to work for the successor and at the same time expand or protect the foundation of the founder?

And those who could not dop it would face the threat of national extinction

And of course, the sins and the mistake of an empire is always concentrated on the middle years and end years of a dynasty

Mongol dynasty also begins like this during the founding of it. Genghis Khan had many powerful warriors and there is also many civil officials that advises the Khan to rule the world not on horseback.

And the other Mongol emperors when they settled they also learns to try to adapt to the world

They know the problem of the Mongol empire and as the years go by, the system of the old should be reformed

This does not entirely apply to Mongol Yuan dynasty or the Manchu Qing dynasty

Each system of governance especially created by humans would always have flaws.

There is no perfect system because people itself isn’t perfect

Hence, there is always a need for reform. But as always reforms are not easy.

Because it is against the grain and against the entrenched interest

The Mongol empire particular, the emperors and those who are loyal to it, knows that they need to reforms and knows that they need to change

The mistake of the system other Mongol emperors also tries to rectify it.

Some Mongol emendators knows that they need to try to unite those people under their rule and ease up on certain laws and rule

However that is easier said than done.

Mongol emperors also is subject to certain restriction.

Some are subjected to the circumstances they are in.

some are subjected to the interest group that surrounded him and so on and so forth

of course, there is always some emperor who are just stupid and cruel

But the emergence of such an emperor has always been because the system is there to allow such impunity and because evil men have always been lawful and obedient men

Those who have committed great atrocity has always attributed it to these two sentence

One is "That is the law"

The other one is " I am only doing what I was told"

The cruelty and the violence and the darkness and evil of the world has always been perpetrated by these two kind of people who spouted these words

Instead, those who change the world, those who fought against tyranny, against evil people were always the one that is smeared the most, was called all kinds of name and attacked by all kinds of establishment

Hence, the wise knows that if all the establishment attacks a person, then that means that person is someone who fought on the other side of the establishment

But the people have always been ignorant. They killed their own liberators and worship their own oppressors.

that has always been the case

When there is no education, the rulers co-opted religions or ideologies to further their control. When there is education, they flooded the world with information so much that you don’t know what is true, what is up and down and every position could be defended whether right or wrong

And before you know it, they have you singing praises for your enemies and hurling insults to your own defenders.

But the one that has always suffer is the common people.

As for those wise people in the common people, they suffer even more

Because they know who is at fault but those around them always worship those oppressors. Dynasties knows this and emperors knows this and some emperor did not come to that position intending to be corrupt

As much as there is darkness in the human heart, to think everyone is evil is unwise.

Because then one would mistake gritted as a way of currying favour, sincerity as an action of self-interest.

Those who distrusted everyone is as much as unwise as a person who trusted everyone

A modicum of caution and restrain is required for both trust and distrust.

Some emperors do want to make changes. Some of them do care about the people. Some of them knows that the power they have come from the people and some of them can and sympathize with the people.

Those who did, always tried reforming the power. And such kings are usually smeared in the history book especially if other king rises up against such king and took his place

It is always said that the most powerful emperor has always bene the founding emperor or a dynasty or a restorer of the dynasty

Because founding emperor were the ones that created the interest group and the restorer brings a new group into the old carcass of a dynasty hence both have almost unlimited prestige and political power that is not present in any other emperors after them

Because they have legacies

And these legacies could be a blessing. But most of the time, these legacies is a burden that the future emperor had to bear

As for the Mongol dynasty, whether it was in the Yuan dynasty or the Khanates in the Steppes or the Emir and Khan in Goryeo and in India, there is also the culture that had formed in the Mongol court and among the Mongol nobility

Regardless of how the Mongol emperor desire or wise decisions and even if some of them could see that certain action would bring their dynasty to an end, they could not stop it so easily

Because everyone understand that once a culture has been formed, it is very hard to change it

The only difference between Mongol dominated court and the Han dominated court is that the Han dominated court cloaked the guise of righteousness’s and shared culture to oppress the people

In other words, the battle has always been between the haves and the have not.

Those Han people who brings down the Mongols, did they not oppress the people? They did the same.

Only they did it more beautifully and more disgustingly.

The Mongols uses brute force. One could easily see it. the Han court uses laws and intrigues and it is clean and those who died from it, dies an ignorant ghost. They didn’t even know how they die.

Taxes, corruption, monopolies. Is it different? Different in implementation but the harm is all the same.

The Ming dynasty rises after the carcasses of the Yuan but did the people prosper? No, only the nobles prosper. The people is still suffering.

The dragon slayer become the dragon.

Aeryon knew all of this. Looking at Ayera he thought of all the stories of history. He himself did not even know how he knew all of this

For now, it did not matter how he has these information in his head. How he knew all of this is also a mystery to him.

He did not want to dwell in that matter for now. But he must admit having these kind of information in his mind is more helpful than it is harmful.

At least, he would be prepared. He thought of all of this matter of history, of rise and fall of dynasties and empires.

And he knew he had to leave a strong foundation for his descendant. Not because he wanted a thousand year legacy.

He just wanted to make a mark. Wanted to protect the people he had come to know and love. And if he could.....make this world a better place

At least better than the world he came from

And because of that.....because of that dream and almost unrealistic dream, because of this perilous path he is determine to walk....Aeryon would kill.

And he would not hesitate to kill.

He could not change this world in a day.

Even if he wanted to espouse some of the thinking of the future, it did not mean that the thinking of the future is right

The modern world is not a paradise either.

It is more comfortable, yes.

But it is not a utopia either.

All of the great thinkers are from the past and all the thinkers of the modern world, are thinkers backed by corporate interest or authoritarian powers or those who shout the loudest, attracting the most idiot out of the crowd.

This world he is form, this era, he is in, it is an era of strife. He did not have divine help who could use his words to espouse great teachings and made people to follow his teaching

He is not that kind of person and he did not have such ability

But he does have the ability to kill. But the instrument of war is a dangerous one. And while he is wielding it, he is very cautious.

He kills, but he rarely kills out of anger. And he would not kill more than necessary.

Certain cruel punishment is used and certain cruel method is used but most of the time, he rarely used it

He knows that the more one used such method, the more it affects the people doing it and before long everyone would only know such method

Aeryon has always believed that technology is the driving force of innovation.

However, after being a leader he understood something else

Technology could only be the driving force of innovation if the political will is there
