Villain's Refund System: The Protagonist's Harem Is Mine
Chapter 84 Execution Rite II
The second form came up out of its own corpse with the black-gold core burning at the center of a body that had stopped pretending to be an animal.
It stood nine meters at the shoulder, built from segments that no longer matched, with four heads that had all been the same head an hour ago.
’The Correction did not send this thing, it wore the thing the house already had, shit, and it has been sitting inside their ancestral beast for who knows how long.’
[Eye of Reckoning: Correction-evolved rite beast]
[Level: 1,340]
[Core: exposed under fourth segment plating]
[Rite status: void]
Damien’s ledger read zero, his left side was open under the coat, and the leg had stopped negotiating around the time he hit the arena floor.
Isolde came up beside the ceremonial stones with her cuffs still on and her ring spent, calculating in the way that made her family so uncomfortable.
"The reagent is gone and I have nothing else on my body, so tell me what you actually need," she said.
"Right, I need forty seconds of that thing hitting me, I need the fourth segment soft once the number is high enough," Damien answered.
"Your plan is to be bitten repeatedly by a fate-warped ancestral construct in front of my entire family," Isolde replied.
"Hmm, that is the whole plan, so if you have a better one I will hear it in four seconds," Damien said.
She did have one, which he really should expect from her, since any Marlowe in that arena stands inside a room built by alchemists.
The ceremonial stones were not decorative. They were feed markers, the channel under the wall carried four centuries of accumulated venom residue for exactly this beast.
Isolde put her cuffed hands on the third marker and told him where to cut, so Damien opened the channel gate in two strikes.
Four hundred years of settled hereditary compound came up through the floor grate and spread across the arena’s lower third in a green sheet.
"That thing has eaten this residue since the fourth century and its body is keyed to tolerate every part of it," she said, "though the core inside it never signed that arrangement."
’The core came from outside, yeah, and nothing that came from outside this world has four centuries of tolerance for Marlowe poison.’
The beast came through the residue on its own initiative, since a Correction reads routes rather than chemistry tables.
Damien went in under the second head and let it reach him.
[Debt: 0 → 604]
The bite took plating off his left shoulder and put him on one knee, while the ledger climbed through every exchange he refused to avoid.
[Debt: 604 → 1,088]
[Debt: 1,088 → 1,449]
[Warning: cap 1,460]
The residue reached the exposed core at thirty-one seconds, the black-gold light inside the fourth segment guttered like a candle in a draft.
’The light just dipped and the plating is soft, now, before it finds out what is happening to it.’
Reckoning released with a dozen points under the ceiling and the tally running gold along Verdict’s full length.
[RECKONING - 1,449 Debt × 2.0 = 2,898]
[Verdict conductance +20% = 3,477]
The strike went through the fourth segment, on past the destabilized core, into the arena wall behind, the entire structure came apart in the air.
The black-gold residue did not crawl away this time, since Blank was already on the floor waiting for it with its edges gone very still.
[Correction core destroyed]

Damien stayed on his feet six seconds afterward, long enough for the gallery to see him standing over the thing, then sat down in the residue.
Isolde got a shoulder under his arm without being asked and said something extremely rude directly into his ear.
"You sat down in four centuries of concentrated hereditary venom with an open chest wound," she added, hauling him upright.
"Then bill me for the bath, since reliable sources say you charge people over absolutely everything," Damien answered.
The house had a problem now, watched by a thousand witnesses in real time.
Evander stood at the channel gate demanding the challenger’s death under a clause about arena interference, he was still demanding it when the eastern doors opened.
Bram came through them with a registrar, two neutral academy officers and Celene walking on her own feet.
She came up the river on a dawn barge, nobody telling her what to say, then crossed the arena floor toward her brother the patriarch without once looking at Evander.
’Nobody coached her, nobody threatened her, she walked in on her own feet, huh, that is going to hold up under the brand in a way rehearsal never would.’
Oren came down from the family box to the rail, the truth brand carried behind him on a steward’s cushion, the bowl went quiet again.
The brand was a plain iron disc that had been in the house sixteen generations, it did nothing at all except turn black when a Marlowe lied while holding it.
Celene took it in both hands before the steward had finished presenting it.
"I signed the acquisition record for the compound found in my niece’s cabinet," she said, the iron stayed gray.
"My nephew Evander brought me the form, chose the hour, described the contents, then sealed my name under family privilege," she said, the iron stayed gray.
"My niece Isolde prepared nothing, administered nothing, knew nothing whatsoever," she said, the iron stayed gray.
"Evander hired four blades on the eastern quay last night to kill me before I could stand here," she said, the iron staying gray while a thousand people started shouting at once.

’Perfect Clear, yeah, bought with a witness, a barge, a fishmonger’s flat and four centuries of somebody else’s poison.’
Bram put two more documents into the registrar’s hands while the shouting was still going, which was the part nobody in the gallery noticed.
The first was Petra’s signed statement, taken before a neutral registrar six days earlier, naming whoever ordered the cultures alongside whoever signed their transport.
The second was a recording crystal from a fishmonger’s flat, in which a hired blade named Evander Marlowe and the eastern quay broker who had paid him.
’The brand handles the poison and the paperwork handles the rest, yeah, and a house cannot call a registrar’s seal a Sterling invention.’
Evander did not run, since no man runs in front of a thousand relatives, so four house officers took him at the channel gate.
Oren read the verdict himself, standing at the rail, in a voice that carried without effort to every seat in the bowl.
The charge against Isolde Marlowe was vacated, the rite declared void with its record sealed, the heir’s succession immunity suspended pending a separate proceeding.
Isolde Marlowe was disinherited, effective immediately, for bringing an outside house into a family matter while defying her patriarch’s order.
’He acquitted her and cut her off in the same breath, damn, he is buying the house’s stability with the only child in it who never lied to him.’
Isolde received that ruling standing in ankle-deep venom residue with her cuffs still locked, never flinching, her eyes fixed on her father.
"You may keep your name, this house will not contest your use of it," Oren said.
"I was always going to keep my name, since it is the only thing in this arena that was ever actually mine," Isolde answered.
’Eleven hundred witnesses and she gets the last word on her own father, yeah, they should have executed her while she was still polite.’
The system posted its own footnote while the gallery emptied and the officers argued about who had jurisdiction over a suspended heir.

Damien read that line sitting on an arena floor with his blood in the residue, he understood exactly what it meant for every plan he had left.
