"Finally found it."

I held a thick blue tome like book in my hand upward in similar form to how Ash in Pokemon held his gym badge after winning a gym battle, with the only difference being that I was using both of my hands.

On the top of the book, there was a title written in local language of Trestria.

Elemental Spirit Compendium"

"It's fine to go back, lest Volth comes looking for me."

I held the book and quickly walked out of the library then headed straight to my room.

Along the way, I didn't see many people, only a couple of maids passed by, but none of them asked me about the book in my hand.

However, this was normal. Although both my father and mother were nothing good, I was still the Second Son of the Anglus Family. Not many people in the family dared to stop me.

As for why not hide the fact that I was taking books from the library, do you think the people in Anglus family are blind? Or do you think that the library is open to just anyone?

The reason I could take away these books was purely because I was the son of Marquis Bahod. Otherwise believe it or not, if someone dared to sneak into the library they would turned into hedgehog the next second.

Once I returned to my room, I couldn't wait to open the book and see what was special about Elemental Spirits.

In the novel, the Elemental Spirits were merely a setting for Magic. Aside from the fact that Magic was performed via communication with Elemental Spirits, nothing else was introduced in the novel.

But this is real world. So things have got to be different.

"Hm, let's see what the Elemental Spirits are like..."

...

...

...

A month later,

"My dear Robert, how has your Magic study been going?"

Looking at the woman seemed to be smiling but whose aura was like a viper wrapping around my body, trying to swallow my soul, I suppressed the disgust and dread in my heart and said.

"It's been fine mother. My magic power has nearly doubled since I started learning and my communication with the Elemental Spirits has become much smoother. I have also learned Fireball and..."

A plain provenance note: the author's official page publishes this chapter, whereas the version here was not permitted.

I listed out my current learning without any exaggeration or lie because I knew lying to a calculating woman like my mother, would only invite trouble. She could easily find the teacher to confirm the truth.

Of course, this truth only contained the truth that I showed in front of the teacher and Volth.

"That's good. You're growing up fast, Robert. Mama is very proud of how diligently you've been studying your magic."

My mother's lips curved into a gentle smile as she reached forward and lovingly brushed a stray lock of hair away from my forehead, making me instinctively suppress the urge to retreat.

"However, you must never become complacent simply because you've made some progress, because there will always be people waiting for an opportunity to pull you down and surpass you."

Her fingers lingered against my cheek for another moment before she withdrew her hand, maintaining that beautiful smile which somehow made every word she spoke feel like brainwashing.

"You're still young, Robert, so you might not understand how cruel this world can be, especially towards someone who possesses talent and a promising future."

"Those people might smile at you today, praise your achievements tomorrow, and offer their assistance the following day, but you must never forget what they truly desire."

"They want to use you, Robert, and the moment you become useless to them, they will abandon you without hesitation, regardless of how sincerely you believed their promises."

I lowered my eyes slightly, pretending to listen attentively and nodded slightly. But in reality, I ignored this brainwashing completely.

After so many years, I have completely understood that the original Robert might not have been a born Villain. Instead he turned into a villain because of this repeated brainwashing and cold atmosphere of the Anglus Family.

"You're right, Mother. I'll remember your advice and make sure that I don't place my trust in people carelessly."

"Such a sensible answer, my dear Robert. I'm delighted to see that you're finally beginning to understand Mama's intentions."

She smiled more brightly, although the satisfaction in her eyes made me feel less like a beloved son and more like a tool who had successfully repeated the expected answer.

...

...

...

"Pah, disgusting..."

The moment I left the room, I spat out in my heart.

It's good that Lucia would always send Volth away after calling me, otherwise he would have probably seen the expression of disgust on my face.

With him here, I probably wouldn't even be able to badmouth that woman in my heart without changing my expression.

Although Volth is my butler and I have started to trust him, he is in the end, my mother's man. He will inevitably explain my every action to her.

Because of this, I can't express my true thoughts in front of him.

Just as I was cursing Lucia and turned around the corner, I almost bumped into someone.

Looking up, I saw a familiar face, full of coldness.

It was none other than Aisha.

"Watch where you're going, will you?"

Aisha glared at me with undisguised contempt, her adorable little face twisted into an expression that made me wonder how someone so cute could look so unpleasant.

What a pity for such a cute face?

I sighed in my heart and spoke up slowly, "I am sorry, I will be more careful next time, Sister Aisha."

"Tch, at least you know how to apologize, unlike those useless servants who can't even do their jobs properly."

She clicked her tongue, apparently satisfied with my response, before casually brushing a hand over her dress as though my mere presence had somehow dirtied it, then she walked away.

"Really, each person in this family is a classic villain!"

"But, I am a villain too, aren't I?" I couldn't but sigh, watching her leave.
