Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction
Chapter 127: Blessed Children
Kanan’s legs felt like jelly when he walked into the room. His eyes instantly darted to Glena and Viola, completely ignoring the other healers and herbalists who bowed to him in respect.
Wrapped in a blanket and cradled by their mothers were two babies who were asleep, the sight making Kanan’s hands shake.
“Kanan.” Viola smiled.
“Are you okay? Are you both okay? I heard you scream…I know that it’s normal, but…you’re both okay, right?”
“We’re fine, dear.” Glena smiled softly, rocking her child in her arms. “Are you going to say hello to your children?”
“I…uh…yes. Heh, sorry.”
He went to Viola first, since she was closer and was his mate. A side of him wanted to check on Glena first, as she had been the one there for him since the beginning, but he saw her nod her head when he went toward Viola, giving him her blessing to check on her first.
“Look, Kanan, I’ve birthed you a son. I hope he grows up to be a strong warrior like his father.”
“What if he wants to be an amazing miner like his amazing mother?”
“Ha, then I’d tell him that he chose the right profession!”
“Hahaha.” Giving Viola a kiss on the cheek, he asked, “What do you wish to call him?”
“I was kind of hoping you would name him. Maybe if you do, Lord Nemean would watch over him as he does you.”
Kanan’s first thought was Violin, but that sounded too cheesy. So, he dove deep into his brain to find a name that would suit his son.
“How about…Vertrin? I just made that up. Sounds cool, right?”
“Vertrin? I like it. It makes me imagine him being powerful in the future.”
After kissing Viola once more, Kanan made his way to Glena, kissing her, then looking at his child.
“A girl!” Kanan said excitedly.
“Yes. It seems you’re excited to have a daughter.”
“Absolutely. Having a son is already amazing, but now I have a daughter as well? Could life get any better?”
“So, what will you name her, dear?”
“While thinking of a name for our son, I thought of a name for a daughter if we had one. How does Glacia sound?”
“Glacia?” Glena nodded. “I like that. I like that a lot.”
“Glacia it is, then.”
Light began to shine from both of Kanan’s children as a mark on their hands started to appear.
At first, Kanan got into a defensive position, quickly and safely snatching the children from their mother’s arms in case something dangerous happened.
“Kanan? Is everything okay?”
“What’s going on? Why are they glowing?”
At this time, Yala entered the room alongside the Elders, hearing Viola and Glena’s worried cries.
“The babies! They’re glowing!” Lars shouted.
“Kanan, what’s going on?”
“I don’t…”
[Children of the host confirmed. Blood of Nemean confirmed. Name established. Vertrin and Glacia. Now blessing them with Nemean’s power.]
“Kanan!”
“It’s okay.” He quickly responded. “It’s okay. I’ve just spoken with Lord Nemean. He’s blessing them.”
As the light faded, a mark appeared on the right hand of Kanan’s children, one even appearing on his hand as well. The mark was a five-pointed star.
“T-The Spark of Nemean!” Elder Lars spoke in a trembling voice.
“The what?” Kanan returned his children to their mothers and stood in the middle of them, rubbing their arms.
“It’s the Spark of Nemean. Long ago, during the age of warrior Sala, Lord Nemean the Second left a mark on his descendants. It was that star. He told the people that his power originated from a star in his body called the Spark. It was his spark of life, of power.”
Kanan sat on those words for a bit, everyone else taking it in as well. He felt honored to have something that showed his status, but he wondered why he had only gotten it just now. It had been nearly a year since everyone learned of his blood.
“But why is it appearing now?” Kanan asked. “Could it have something to do with my children?”
[The host is correct. Part of your duty was to reproduce. Now that you have ensured the future of your people and bloodline, Nemean has decided to reveal the mark left on his descendants, one that he had hidden away for their safety.]
“I’m not aware of why the mark is only showing now, but–”
“Lord Nemean just told me.” Kanan interrupted.
“R-Really? What did he say?”
“Basically, the mark vanished to keep his descendants safe. Now that I have children, Lord Nemean deemed it right for the mark to return.”
“I see! That makes sense. Lord Nemean never stopped watching over us, and it makes me want to serve him even more!”
“Congratulations. Kanan.” Nala patted him on the shoulder.
“Thank you.”
“Congrats, Kanan. I know you’ll be a good father.” Telah smiled, approaching him. Leaning in close, she whispered in his ear. “I’ll get a dozen or so women from my tribe prepared to bear your children as well.”
“H-Heh, s-sure.” Kanan had infinite stamina when mating, but even he didn’t think he would be able to have that much sex. Only time would tell.
“Kanan, take some off. Enjoy time with your new family and bond with your children.” Elder Hal said with a smile.
“Is that okay? I can do that?”
“Of course! We aren’t so cruel as to have you work while you have newborns and recovering mates. You’ve earned this, Shaman.”
Kanan couldn’t express how happy and thankful he was. He assumed that he would get a day or two off, maybe a week, before needing to return to work. There was still a lot to be done, and it would be a while until everything was back to normal.
But knowing that he could relax and enjoy this time with his family put his heart at ease.
“Thank you. I’ll work extra hard once I have to go back to work.”
“Oh? I guess we’ll be having a lot more births within the coming year. I knew you had a lot of stamina, Kanan, but not this much.” Elder Lars joked.
“W-What? No! That’s not what I was talking about.”
“Fufu, it’s okay, Kanan. You know, I have a daughter a little older than you. She’s still of childbearing age.” Elder Trena said softly.
“And my granddaughter is close in age to you as well.” Elder Lars tried jumping in on this as well. No way he would let Trena have Kanan bless her bloodline.
“My daughters would gladly bear your children, Kanan. And unlike these two, I have four of them!” Elder Hal smirked as he one-upped the other two, their annoyed expressions making him feel superior.
“I’m not mating with anyone for the time being.” Kanan blurted, making the room go silent.
“Pfft, yeah right.”
“Did he forget his divine role?”
“Soon, the Breeding Ceremonies will have to continue.”
“See you next week, Kanan.”
“I’ll send you some Typhon women that meet your preferences.”
“ARGGHHHH!”
Imagine if I named the children Carl and Carla? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
