Triple X System
Chapter 481: An Ascendant?
The transition through the Spire’s transit portal was not accompanied by the sickening, spatial tear that usually tore at a warrior’s meridians. Thanks to the master authority of the Spire Key, the golden-violet archway folded reality around them like silk, depositing Kyle, Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua onto the cold, damp stone floor of the subterranean vaults deep beneath the Lumia Kingdom.
The heavy, metallic smell of high-grade mana, iron reinforcements, and subterranean dampness hit them instantly.
They stood in the ancient lower archives beneath the capital’s inner keep—the exact place where Kyle and Elara had once decoded the royal spatial scroll before his journey to the Crimson Ridge. The room was illuminated only by the faint, pulsing blue glow of the subterranean ley-line conduits built into the stone walls.
Behind them, the ten-foot portal collapsed into a silent, pencil-thin line of golden light before vanishing into Kyle’s shadow, leaving no residual spatial energy for the kingdom’s wardens to track.
"Static ley-line pressure," Seraphina observed quietly, her blue eyes scanning the dark vaulted arches above. She held her ocean trident at her side, her water domain sensing the subtle vibrations in the stone. "We are directly beneath the central keep. But the ambient mana down here is erratic... the ley-lines are far more unstable than when we left."
"It’s the corruption," Yua said, her red eyes gleaming in the dim blue light as she stretched her arms, her claws clicking together. "The air down here smells sour. Like a wound that’s been left to rot under a clean bandage."
Falcon walked to the heavy iron door at the far end of the archive chamber, placing her ear against the cold metal. Her four dark brown tails swished behind her back in a low, cautious rhythm. "Quiet on the upper stairs. The royal guard rotation must be shifted toward the outer perimeter. The whole keep feels like it’s on a war footing."
Kyle stepped forward, his dark coat sweeping against the stone floor. He didn’t draw his dark shadow blade, nor did he flare his demon fire. Yet, the subtle aura surrounding his physical frame was vastly different from the warrior who had left the kingdom months ago. His evolution into a Demon Knight gave his posture an unyielding, absolute weight—an authority that made the ambient shadows in the room lean toward his boots like obedient hounds.
He raised his right hand, placing his iron gauntlet against the heavy mechanical lock of the archive door.
CLICK-SNAP.
The internal iron gears of the ancient lock didn’t just turn; they yielded instantly to his spatial resonance, sliding open without making a single screech.
"We move straight to the inner sanctum," Kyle instructed, his slitted dark eyes fixing on the dark spiral staircase leading up into the keep. "No unnecessary clashes with the outer guard. King Troy and Princess Lumia need to know the Blood Moon is dead before the traitor inside the council realizes we’ve returned."
The climb up the spiral staircase was silent and swift.
As they ascended toward the upper levels of the castle, the physical signs of the kingdom’s transformation became glaringly obvious. The wide, polished marble corridors that once hosted scholars, foreign ambassadors, and royal court members were now stripped bare, reinforced with heavy iron plates and glowing defense runes. Fully armored elite guards marched in tight three-man patrols, their faces hidden behind iron visors, their weapons infused with anti-corruption mana.
Using Kyle’s short-range spatial steps and Seraphina’s water veil to mask their mana footprints, the four of them bypassed three full guard patrols without alerting a single sentry.
They reached the grand hallway leading to the Royal Strategy Chamber—the heart of the kingdom’s war council.
Beyond the reinforced oak double doors, raised voices echoed into the corridor.
"...the subterranean ley-line readings in Sector Four dropped another twelve percent this morning!" a harsh, elderly voice shouted from inside the chamber—one of the senior high councilors. "The Iron Works are barely holding the defensive barrier at sixty percent! If the Blood Moon Clan launches another assault from the Crimson Ridge, the outer wall will collapse!"
"Panicking will not restore the ley-lines, Councilor Vane," a cool, clear female voice cut through the noise—Princess Lumia. She sounded tired, her tone carrying the heavy weight of someone who had been holding a falling kingdom together on her shoulders for months. "Commander Ona’s puppet network at the Iron Works has been dismantled, but the lingering corruption in the defensive logs takes time to purge. We hold the line."
"Hold the line with what, Your Highness?!" another councilor argued loudly. "Kyle Conner has been gone for months! We have no confirmation if he even survived the Dead Ravine! Without a high-tier warrior to strike at the Blood Moon’s leaders, we are simply waiting for our barriers to burn out!"
Standing outside the door in the quiet corridor, Yua looked over at Kyle with a wicked, toothy grin, mouthing: "They miss you, boss."
Falcon rolled her golden eyes, shaking her head softly, while Seraphina kept her gaze fixed on the heavy oak doors, waiting for Kyle’s signal.
Kyle didn’t knock. He didn’t send a herald.
He simply stepped forward and pushed the heavy, iron-reinforced oak doors wide open.
CREEEEAK.
The loud, deliberate sound of the double doors opening caused every single voice inside the Royal Strategy Chamber to cut off instantly.
The strategy room was massive, centered around a gargantuan stone war-map displaying the glowing layout of the Lumia Kingdom and the surrounding territories. Seated around the long oak table were ten high councilors, four military generals, King Troy sitting at the head of the table in his heavy battle armor, and Princess Lumia standing near the central map, a glowing mana quill in her hand.
Dozens of elite royal guards inside the chamber instantly drew their halberds and broadswords, their armor clanking loudly as they formed a wall in front of the king.
"Who dares intrude upon the High War Council?!" the captain of the guard roared, raising his glowing blade.
Through the doorway stepped four figures.
At the front walked Kyle Conner. His dark coat was dusted with the faint white stone powder of the Spire, his pitch-black gauntlet resting easily at his side, his dark slitted eyes sweeping calmly over the shocked faces of the council. Behind him stood Falcon, her four dark brown tails swishing with quiet confidence; Seraphina, holding her royal ocean trident with majestic poise; and Yua, her red eyes sparkling with dangerous amusement.
The entire strategy chamber fell into a dead, suffocating silence.
Princess Lumia froze, the mana quill slipping from her fingers and clattering against the stone map. Her wide eyes locked onto Kyle’s face, her breath catching in her throat. "Kyle...?"
King Troy slowly stood up from his heavy iron throne at the head of the table. His battle-scarred face showed a rare, profound shock as he felt the sheer, terrifying density of the mana aura radiating from Kyle’s body—an aura far superior to the warrior who had left the capital months ago.
"Stand down," King Troy commanded, his deep voice cutting through the guard line like thunder. "Stand down instantly!"
The elite guards hesitated, then lowered their weapons, stepping back to open a lane.
Kyle walked down the center aisle of the strategy chamber, his boots clicking rhythmically against the stone floor until he stopped ten paces from the royal map table.
"I heard the council was worried about the Crimson Ridge," Kyle spoke. His voice was quiet, calm, yet it resonated through the large room with a clear, absolute depth that made the councilors instinctively pull back in their seats.
One of the senior high councilors swallowed hard, his hands trembling slightly as he looked at Kyle’s gauntlet. "Conner... you... you returned from the ridge? What of the Blood Moon Clan? What of their fortress on the High Plateau?"
Kyle reached into his coat. He didn’t pull out a speech, nor did he present official council reports.
He tossed a single, heavy object onto the center of the royal war-map.
THUD-ROLL.
The object rolled across the carved stone map of the Crimson Ridge, coming to a stop directly over the marker for the Blood Moon Fortress.
It was Lord Cassian’s signet ring—a massive, ancient band forged from dark blood-gold and set with a shattered, lifeless crimson crystal that had once held his pureblood patriarch seal.
"The Blood Moon Clan is no more," Kyle said, his slitted dark eyes sweeping over the councilors, lingering for a fraction of a second on two specific figures whose faces had suddenly turned pale as ash. "Lord Cassian is dead. His sectors are destroyed. His fortress on the High Plateau belongs to us."
A collective gasp echoed through the council chamber. Several councilors stood up in sheer disbelief, staring at the shattered signet ring on the map, while Princess Lumia took a trembling step forward, looking at Kyle with a mixture of wonder and profound relief.
"You... you cleared the entire Crimson Ridge?" King Troy breathed, his hands gripping the edge of the oak table so hard the wood groaned under his strength. "The four sectors... the Arch-Lich... Cassian himself?"
"All cleared," Falcon added smoothly from behind Kyle, her golden eyes flashing with a sharp, proud smirk. "And we brought back the master key."
Kyle raised his right hand. A soft, brilliant pulse of violet and pale-blue spatial light flared from his palm—the distinct, undeniable resonance of the Spire Key.
"The threat from the Crimson Ridge is permanently ended," Kyle declared, his voice cold and unyielding. "Now... let’s talk about the traitors who fed Commander Ona the defensive logs while I was away."
The atmosphere in the Royal Strategy Chamber instantly shifted from shock to a razor-sharp, lethal tension, setting the stage for the complete purge of the kingdom’s inner corruption.
