Triple X System
Chapter 480: Ancient Marble
The transition from the ruined, dust-choked air of the Blood Moon Fortress to the interior of the Spire was silent, marked only by the sudden, heavy shift in atmospheric pressure.
When Kyle took his first step past the threshold of the golden doors, the sound of the wind sweeping across the High Plateau cut off instantly. It was as if a massive, invisible wall had dropped behind them, sealing away the lower realm, the shattered throne room, and the silent abyss where Lord Cassian’s head had fallen.
They stood at the mouth of an avenue so gargantuan it defied standard spatial architecture.
The floor beneath their boots was composed of immaculate, white marble slabs, each polished to such a high sheen that it reflected the glowing sky above like a sheet of ice. Flanking the avenue on both sides were towering, ribbed pillars made of ancient, unweathered alabaster. Each pillar was wide enough that five men standing arm-in-arm could not span its girth, stretching up hundreds of feet into a vaulted ceiling that dissolved into a sea of artificial golden clouds. Floating beneath those clouds were dozens of soft, golden orbs of light, hanging motionless in mid-air, casting a warm, perpetual daylight across the entire structure.
"This isn’t just a hallway," Falcon murmured, her boots clicking softly against the marble as she stepped beside Kyle. She looked up at the towering alabaster pillars, her golden eyes reflecting the soft daylight. "The spatial expansion inside this place... it feels like we walked onto another continent entirely."
"It’s a spatial sub-dimension," Seraphina said, stepping up to Kyle’s left. She held her ocean trident vertically, using the butt of the staff to steady her footing. Her gaze swept across the pristine marble floor, searching for hidden rune traps or spatial distortion lines. "The Spire Key didn’t just open a door—it aligned our presence with the primary spatial lattice of the first tier. The lower realm’s gravity has no hold on us here."
Yua walked a few paces ahead, her crimson claws retracted, her dark red eyes darting left and right with sharp, predatory focus. She stopped near the base of one of the massive alabaster pillars, extending two fingers to touch the cold, unyielding stone.
"No dust," Yua observed, her voice echoing faintly down the long avenue. "No blood, no scratches, no signs of struggle. For a place that’s supposed to be an ancient trial ground, it looks like it was swept an hour ago."
"That’s because the environmental array is active," Kyle said, his voice quiet, carrying that new, grounded depth born from his breakthrough into a Demon Knight.
He looked down at his right hand, flexing his iron gauntlet. The dark metal was silent, showing no wisps of black smoke, yet he could feel the ambient mana in the corridor pressing against his skin. The air here was dense—easily three times thicker with unrefined elemental energy than the atmosphere on the High Plateau. Every breath felt rich, almost heavy, filling his lungs with a cool, sharp clarity that made his meridians thrum with steady, effortless power.
’Snow,’ Kyle called out internally. ’Scan the avenue ahead. Any concealed constructs or spatial shifts?’
’Scanning primary transit corridor,’ Snow’s melodic voice answered smoothly inside his mind space. ’Spatial lattice is stable at 99.8%. No concealed aggressive constructs detected within a six-hundred-meter radius. However, ambient mana density is increasing by four percent for every fifty meters advanced.’
’And the trial ahead?’ Kyle asked, his slitted dark eyes tracking the straight, unbroken path of white marble stretching into the distance.
’The corridor leads directly to the First Trial Nexus,’ Snow detailed, displaying a sleek blue schematic across his vision. ’The nexus is guarded by an ancient spatial warden system. Because Host holds the Spire Key: Core Access Matrix, the warden system will evaluate the party’s collective authority rather than deploying standard extermination protocols.’
"Keep your formation tight," Kyle instructed his team out loud, stepping forward into the center of the avenue. "The mana density in here is high. Your skills will carry twice as much kinetic force, but your stamina will drain faster if you force your domains. Control your breathing and keep your core output at thirty percent until we reach the nexus."
"Got it," Falcon said, her four dark brown tails swishing softly behind her back. The tips were quiet now, showing no sparks of green fire, though her posture remained alert, her body coiled like a spring.
"Understood," Seraphina added, keeping her ocean domain tucked close to her body, reduced to a thin, barely visible veil of blue mist surrounding her boots.
They walked in silence for several minutes, their rhythmic footsteps echoing down the grand avenue.
As they traveled deeper into the first tier, the sheer scale of the Spire began to reveal itself. Between the gargantuan alabaster pillars, massive stone murals were carved into the side walls, detailing scenes from an era long forgotten by the lower realms.
The first mural depicted towering figures made of dark stone and silver light, holding massive spears as they drove back sprawling, chaotic masses of black Void beasts. The second mural showed a majestic, circular city surrounded by seven concentric rings of high walls, with a towering spire rising from its center—the exact spire they were now walking through.
"Look at these carvings," Seraphina whispered, slowing her pace as she passed a mural showing a woman in royal robes holding a glowing crystal lattice key—the exact twin of the Spire Key Kyle now possessed. "These aren’t cultist designs. This is pre-collapse architecture. The same civilization that forged the royal archives in the Lumia Kingdom..."
"Cassian called it a containment grid," Falcon noted, her gaze lingering on a carved figure of a multi-tailed fox beast fighting alongside the light-armored knights in the mural. "He said the Blood Moon Clan was guarding a seal."
"Cassian was a liar who used ancient history to justify his own greed," Kyle said coldly, not pausing his stride. "He didn’t build this place, and he didn’t understand the key he was sitting on. He was just a parasite feeding on the energy leaking through the floor."
"Still," Yua chimed in, glancing up at a mural showing a terrifying, colossal beast with twelve glowing eyes trapped beneath a mountain of chains, "he wasn’t lying about one thing. There are things locked up in the higher tiers that make the lower-realm vampire lords look like children playing with sticks."
"Then we adapt," Kyle said simply. "That’s why we’re here."
After twenty minutes of continuous walking, the grand marble avenue finally opened up into a colossal circular plaza.
The plaza was vast enough to house an entire city square, paved with intricate blue and gold tiles that formed a massive, glowing compass star in the floor. At the center of the compass star stood a elevated, ringed platform carved from translucent blue crystal. Floating ten feet above the platform was a floating, spherical construct forged from silver rings and spinning brass gears, pulsating with a soft, rhythmically ticking pale-blue light.
The moment the four of them stepped onto the blue-and-gold tiles of the plaza, the spinning brass construct froze.
CLICK.
The soft, rhythmic ticking stopped instantly. The outer silver rings of the construct aligned vertically, and a single, massive eye forged from pure, condensed spatial crystal opened in the center of the sphere, casting a cold, brilliant blue beam of light straight down onto Kyle’s position.
"Hostile?" Falcon asked instantly, her dark brown tails flaring outward, ready to ignite with green poison fire at a moment’s notice.
"Stay back," Kyle commanded, raising a hand to hold them in place. "It’s scanning."
The blue beam swept over Kyle’s dark coat, lingering on the pitch-black metal of his gauntlet before locking onto his chest, where his newly evolved Demon Knight core thrummed steadily.
HUMMMMMMMMM...
A deep, resonant voice—neither male nor female, sounding like ancient crystal grinding against glass—echoed from the construct, speaking in a high-tier dialect of the ancient tongue that vibrated directly inside their minds.
"ASTRAL WARDEN ARRAY: IDENTIFYING ACCESS AUTHORITY."
"PRIMARY SPATIAL SIGNATURE DETECTED: SPIRE KEY — CORE ACCESS MATRIX."
"BEARER EVALUATION: TIER 5 DEMON KNIGHT."
The blue beam flared brighter for a fraction of a second, scanning the spatial aura surrounding Kyle’s body. The construct’s silver rings began to spin again, moving at three times their previous speed as a series of soft, mechanical chimes echoed across the vast plaza.
"AUTHORITY CONFIRMED. WELCOME, ASCENDANT CONNER."
"FIRST TIER TRIAL: ’THE AVENUE OF JUDGMENT’ IS CURRENTLY BYPASSED VIA MASTER KEY PROTOCOL."
"SELECT ACTION:
1. ASCEND TO TIER 2: THE CELESTIAL CANYON.
2. ACCESS LOCAL TRANSIT GATEWAYS (LUMIA KINGDOM / LOWER REALM NEXUS).
3. INITIALIZE FORTRESS SECURE PROTOCOL."
Seraphina’s breath caught in her throat as the mental translation of the options echoed in her mind. Her blue eyes snapped to Kyle’s face. "Kyle... did you hear option two?"
Kyle stood still in the center of the beam of light, his slitted dark eyes fixing on the floating crystal eye of the construct. "I heard."
"Local transit gateways..." Falcon breathed, her golden eyes widening as a look of genuine shock crossed her dark face. "The Spire doesn’t just go up... it connects back down to the kingdom."
"It’s a spatial nexus," Kyle said, his voice quiet, calm, and absolute. He looked back at his three companions. "The royal scroll Elara decoded back in the archives wasn’t just a map. The ancient royal line of Lumia was connected to this exact trial floor three thousand years ago."
"That means..." Yua started, her red eyes sparkling with a dark, dangerous realization, "we don’t have to march back through the Dead Ravine or trek across the Crimson Ridge to get back to the capital. We can open a portal straight from this platform directly into the kingdom’s inner line."
Kyle turned his gaze back to the floating warden construct. He thought about the state of the Lumia Kingdom—the militarized war machine it had become, the subterranean ley-line instability threatening its foundations, and the unresolved shadow of the traitor who had manipulated the defensive logs at the Iron Works. He thought about King Troy, Princess Lumia, and the corrupted forces waiting in the shadows of the capital.
The Blood Moon Clan was destroyed. Lord Cassian was dead. His physical core had evolved into a Demon Knight, and he held the master key to the High Plateau’s spatial grid.
He was no longer the missing warrior returning from a six-month absence to clear his name. He was an Ascendant holding the authority of the Spire itself.
"Snow," Kyle commanded internally, his dark gauntlet tightening into a firm fist. "Can we lock the portal coordinates from this platform to the Lumia Kingdom’s primary defensive anchor?"
’Affirmative,’ Snow answered smoothly, her blue interface windows expanding across his field of view. ’The Spire Key allows the Host to establish a permanent, secure two-way spatial conduit between the First Tier Nexus and the inner royal ley-line anchor of the Lumia Kingdom. The portal will be completely immune to lower-realm interception or external corruption.’
"Option two," Kyle said out loud to the Astral Warden, his voice echoing clearly across the vast marble plaza. "Initialize local transit gateway to the Lumia Kingdom."
"COMMAND ACCEPTED," the Warden Array echoed in harmony. "ALIGNING SPATIAL COORDINATES... ANCHORING ROYAL LEY-LINE... OPENING GATEWAY."
KA-THUUUUUUM!
The translucent blue crystal platform in the center of the compass star flared with a brilliant, blinding column of golden and violet light. The spatial lattice of the room parted cleanly, forming a massive, ten-foot-wide archway of swirling, stable portal energy right on the platform.
Through the translucent surface of the swirling portal, the view of the Spire vanished—replaced by the familiar, cold stone architecture, glowing blue mana conduits, and heavy iron reinforcements of the subterranean vaults beneath the Lumia Kingdom’s royal capital.
Falcon let out a low, breathless laugh, shaking her head as she looked at the open portal. "Well... look at that. Home delivery."
Seraphina gripped her trident tight, her expression hardening into a look of regal, unshakeable resolve. "The corruption in the capital won’t know what hit them when we step through that gate."
Yua cracked her knuckles, her razor-sharp teeth bared in a feral grin. "Let’s go clean house, boss."
Kyle looked at the open portal leading back to the kingdom, then back at the golden avenue stretching into the higher tiers of the Spire. The journey upward was far from over, but the foundation was laid. He had the power, he had the key, and he had the stronghold.
"Let’s go," Kyle commanded softly.
With his dark coat sweeping around his boots and his team at his side, Kyle Conner turned and stepped through the spatial gateway, ready to bring the storm of the Spire straight back to the Lumia Kingdom.
