Triple X System
Chapter 478: Fall Of A Blood Sovereign
The dark void energy hovering above Cassian’s exposed neck thrummed with a terrifying, absolute silence. It was not a sound that traveled through the air, but rather a cold vibration that vibrated directly against the bones, devouring the frantic howling of the winds that tore through the broken windows of the Great Hall.
The spatial energy spilling out from the severed ends of the three cables was wild, chaotic, and loud—hissing like angry serpents as it burned through stone and marble alike. But in the immediate radius of Kyle’s dark shadow blade, there was nothing. No sound, no light, no warmth. Just the absolute, uncompromising weight of a executioner’s steel.
Lord Cassian stared up at that thin line of pitch-black void.
His pale, aristocratic face—once so calm, so insufferably superior, so utterly convinced of its own divine right to rule—was now completely undone. The intricate silver crest stitched into his snow-white collar was torn and soaked through with his own black, unholy blood. His long, silver-white hair hung in wet, tangled matted locks across his forehead, and his crimson eyes, once shining like polished rubies of the abyss, were wide, bloodshot, and trembling with a primal, pathetic terror.
He had lived for nearly four centuries. He had survived the Great Purge of the Crimson Ridge, outlasted rival vampire lords, slaughtered entire covenants of elder beast-folk, and struck deals with entities beyond the spatial veil that would make lesser men claw their own eyes out in sheer madness. He had believed himself immortal. He had treated the lives of thousands as mere fuel to keep his own heart beating and his domain intact.
And now, kneeling on the bone-ash steps of his own shattered throne, he was looking into the eyes of a mortal boy from the lower realm—a boy whose dark, slitted eyes held no hatred, no triumph, and no malice.
Only an absolute, terrifying emptiness.
"Wait..." Cassian whispered. His voice was no longer a grand, multi-toned echo that rattled the hall; it was a raspy, pathetic croak, choked with the black blood bubbling up from his ruptured lungs. "Wait... Kyle Conner... listen to me. The Spire... you think you are conquering it? You think you are ascending?"
Kyle did not lower his sword. His feet remained firmly planted, his boots resting on the cracked marble, his pitch-black demon gauntlet locked around the hilt of his blade with the steady, unyielding pressure of an iron vise.
"You know nothing of what slumbers inside the higher tiers," Cassian gasped, his fingers clawing desperately at the stone steps as the gravitational pull from Cable Four—still pulsing behind his spine—began to drag his lower body toward the spatial tear. "The Blood Moon... it was never a clan! It was a seal! A containment grid created by the First Ancestors to keep *it* from waking up! If you kill me... if you break the line of the First Patriarch... the seal collapses completely! You will unleash something that will burn your world into cinder!"
Kyle’s slitted eyes flickered slightly, but his grip on the hilt did not loosen by a millimeter.
’Snow, verify his claim,’ Kyle commanded internally, his voice razor-sharp inside his mind. ’Is there a secondary seal tied to his vital core?’
’Scanning Lord Cassian’s bio-energetic signature and its interaction with the Spire’s primary key,’ Snow responded instantly, her voice sounding like a pristine crystal bell amidst the quiet tension of his mind. ’Scan complete. Target is attempting a high-level cognitive deceit. The Throne of Marrow does contain a structural seal, but it is not anchored to his life force—it is anchored to his manual control of the four conduits. His claim of an apocalyptic entity being released upon his death is a fabricated narrative designed to induce hesitation.’
’Confidence rating?’ Kyle asked.
’Ninety-nine point nine percent,’ Snow replied smoothly. ’Furthermore, the spatial feedback loop within Cable Four will reach critical instability in precisely fourteen seconds. If his head is not severed before the energy reaches its apex, the spatial backfire will detonate his core manually, causing the very spatial collapse he is threatening you with.’
’Fourteen seconds,’ Kyle repeated.
He looked down into Cassian’s trembling red eyes. "You talked too much when you were winning, Cassian. And you’re lying while you’re dying."
Cassian’s eyes widened in horror as he realized his gamble had failed. "NO! YOU FOOLISH LOWER-REALM BRAT—"
*SWISH.*
Kyle didn’t execute a grand, flashy battle technique. He didn’t roar a name of an ancient demon art, nor did he channel a roaring wave of elemental fire. He simply stepped forward, bringing his dark shadow blade down in a clean, horizontal sweep through the air.
The blade passed through Cassian’s neck without meeting the slightest physical resistance. The dark void energy coating the edge severed bone, muscle, spinal cord, and spatial mana conduits all at once—wiping out the microscopic cellular bonds before the nerves could even register the sensation of pain.
For a single, frozen second, time seemed to stop inside the Great Hall.
The screaming wind died down to a faint, hollow sigh. The swirling crimson clouds outside the shattered windows froze mid-whirl.
Cassian’s body remained kneeling on the top step of the dais, his pale hands still clutching the stone. Then, slowly, gracefully, his severed head slipped from his shoulders, tumbling down the bone-ash steps like an oversized marble ball. It bounced three times before coming to a rest at the base of the dais, right in front of Seraphina’s boots.
His red eyes remained open, staring blankly up at the vaulted ceiling, frozen forever in a state of sheer, unadulterated shock.
*BOOOOOOOOOOM!*
The instant the connection between Cassian’s neck and his body was severed, Cable Four—the last remaining tether to the Throne of Marrow—snapped with a sound like a thunderclap echoing inside a closed box.
Without a vessel to channel the immense, hyper-compressed spatial energy drawing from the Spire, the Throne of Marrow instantly violently imploded. The ancient obsidian chair, carved with the likenesses of a hundred gargoyles, collapsed inward on itself, turning into a dense, swirling vortex of violet light that sucked in the remaining shattered pillars, the bone-ash steps, and Cassian’s headless torso.
"Kyle! Fall back!" Seraphina screamed, reaching out her hand as the gravitational vortex expanded toward the top of the dais.
Kyle didn’t run. He executed a swift, high-speed spatial step backward, his body blurring into a trail of dark smoke that reappeared fifty feet away on the floating stone block beside Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua.
Together, the four of them stood side-by-side, watching in tense silence as the Throne of Marrow and the entire rear wall of the Great Hall were swallowed up by the collapsing spatial vortex. The violent implosion lasted for five agonizing seconds before it suddenly snapped shut with a high-pitched *POP*, leaving behind a massive, perfectly spherical void in the back of the fortress.
And right in the center of that empty space, where the throne had once stood, hovered a single object.
It was a key.
Not a key made of gold, iron, or brass, but a three-foot-long crystal lattice forged entirely from solid, frozen spatial mana. It floated in mid-air, spinning lazily on its axis, emitting a soft, soothing pulses of pale-blue light that instantly washed away the toxic crimson haze that had filled the hall for centuries. The air, which had been thick with the stench of decay and iron, suddenly smelled crisp, clear, and cold—like fresh snow falling over a virgin forest.
[NOTIFICATION: BOSS TARGET ’LORD CASSIAN, FIRST PATRIARCH OF THE BLOOD MOON’ HAS BEEN ELIMINATED.]
[REWARD DISTRIBUTION: 2,500,000 DEMONIC EXP ALLOCATED TO PARTY LEADER KYLE CONNER.]
[LEVEL UP! LEVEL UP! LEVEL UP!]
[CURRENT STATUS UPDATED: KYLE CONNER — TIER 5 HIGH-DEMON KNIGHT (PEAK STAGE).]
[ITEM ACQUIRED: ’SPIRE KEY: CORE ACCESS MATRIX (TIER 1)’.]
A cascade of golden and violet systemic rune windows expanded in front of Kyle’s eyes, refreshing his drained core with a sudden, warm wave of pure energy. The deep hairline fractures on his dark demon gauntlet closed up in a matter of seconds, the dark metal repairing itself as his meridians expanded to accommodate his new power ceiling. The agonizing ache behind his left eye faded, replaced by a cool, soothing clarity that broadened his spatial perception by tenfold.
Beside him, Falcon dropped to her knees on the marble stone with a heavy sigh, her four dark brown tails drooping behind her back like exhausted whips. The green poison fire on their tips sputtered out entirely, leaving only thin wisps of fragrant white smoke curling into the air. She wiped the sweat and grime from her dark face with the back of her forearm, letting out a long, ragged laugh that echoed off the surviving walls.
"It’s over..." Falcon muttered, her golden eyes staring at the floating crystal key in disbelief. "The old bastard is actually dead. We... we actually pulled it off."
Yua walked over to Cassian’s severed head, her boots clacking against the stone floor. She looked down at the dead face of the patriarch who had hunted her species for generations, her crimson claws retracting back into her hands. She didn’t laugh, nor did she celebrate with her usual wild mania. She simply raised her boot and kicked the head over, letting it fall off the edge of the floating fragment into the endless spatial abyss below.
"For my tribe," Yua whispered softly, her sharp red eyes glistening with a rare, quiet emotion before she turned back around with her signature wicked grin. "And because he had a stupid face."
Seraphina lowered her ocean trident, using it as a cane to support her weight as her ocean domain completely dissolved into thin air. Her pale cheeks were flushed with exhaustion, her royal hair disheveled, but a beautiful, relieved smile broke across her lips as she looked at Kyle.
"We survived, Kyle," Seraphina said gently, her voice soft and trembling. "The Crimson Ridge... it’s ours now."
Kyle stood in the center of the trio, his dark coat settling around his boots as the gale winds finally receded into a calm mountain breeze. He lowered his dark shadow blade, letting the pitch-black steel slide back into his shadow dimension with a soft, quiet hiss.
He didn’t look down at the abyss where Cassian had fallen. He didn’t look at the system notifications floating in front of his face, detailing his new power level or the massive EXP rewards he had just gained.
Instead, he walked slowly across the floating marble blocks, his boots crunching against the fine white dust, until he stood directly beneath the floating crystal key.
He reached out his right hand. His bare skin—now marked with thin, elegant violet lines of spatial resonance—touched the cool, smooth surface of the floating lattice key.
*HUMMMMMMMMM...*
The instant his fingers made contact, the crystal key dissolved into a liquid stream of pale-blue light that flowed straight into the palm of his hand, fusing directly into his core system.
At the same time, the massive, closed double doors at the far end of the hall—the doors leading deep into the central Spire itself—began to glow with a brilliant, blinding light. The ancient stone runes carved into the heavy archways clicked into place one by one, releasing seals that had remained locked for three thousand years.
Slowly, heavily, the ancient double doors swung inward, revealing a passageway lined with tall, pristine white pillars and bathed in a warm, inviting golden light that stretched far beyond the horizon of the High Plateau.
Kyle turned back to face Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua. The wind caught his dark hair, pulling it back from his forehead, and his dark slitted eyes shone with an unshakeable, brilliant light as he gestured toward the open gates of the Spire.
"Rest for ten minutes," Kyle said, a faint, genuine smile touching the corner of his lips for the first time in days. "Catch your breath, heal your wounds, and gather your weapons."
He looked toward the golden light streaming through the massive open doors, his dark demon gauntlet tightening into a fist at his side.
"Because the lower floor was just the trial," Kyle declared quietly. "The true Spire is waiting for us."
Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua looked at each other, their exhausted faces breaking into smiles of shared trust and unbroken resolve. They pulled themselves up, standing side-by-side behind their leader, ready to step into the light together. The reign of the Blood Moon was finished—and the legend of Kyle Conner was about to begin its true ascension.
