Chapter 477: Shadow Weaver Trap

The High Plateau shuddered with a deep, subterranean groan that echoed up through the mountain like the death rattle of a dying titan. Outside the shattered high windows of the Great Hall, the endless ocean of crimson clouds surrounding the fortress transformed—turning a bruised, twilight purple, traversed by thick jagged bolts of spatial lightning born from pure compressed mana.

Inside the hall, the atmospheric pressure tripled within seconds.

The floating marble fragments, which had been suspended in anti-gravity since Cassian first broke the floor, suddenly felt the crushing weight of the vampire patriarch’s surging domain. Stone blocks larger than carriage houses began to sink, grinding against one another with ear-splitting screeches that showered the air with white dust and sparkling mica fragments. The air itself grew dense, heavy with the metallic tang of fresh blood and ozone, making every breath feel like swallowing warm, iron-laced water.

"His mana output just surged by forty percent!" Seraphina called out, her voice straining against the roaring wind.

She stood on a sinking marble slab, her boots braced wide as her ocean trident glowed with a bright, erratic blue light. Her royal water domain, usually a tranquil, pristine sphere, was oscillating violently, its surface rippling under the immense gravimetric field Cassian was broadcasting from the dais. Sweat trickled down her neck, darkening the collar of her silver shoulder guards. "He’s forcing the Throne of Marrow to bypass his natural core limit! If he keeps drawing from the Spire key like this, he won’t just kill us—he’ll collapse the spatial lattice of the entire plateau!"

"He doesn’t care about the plateau," Falcon snapped, dropping onto all fours on a nearby ledge to lower her center of gravity. Her four dark brown tails whipped restlessly behind her, their tips twitching with faint, dying sparks of green fire. Her dark skin was slick with exertion, her lungs pumping hard as she fought off the cold, creeping fatigue settling into her chest. "He’s an ancient parasite. If this mountain falls, he’ll just float into the Spire on our corpses. Kyle, we can’t keep playing defense against this kind of output!"

Yua picked herself up off a fractured obsidian pillar, spitting a mouthful of dark blood onto the stone. Her leather armor was shredded at the shoulder where Cassian’s spatial lock had caught her, revealing pale skin bruised dark purple underneath. Yet, her sharp red eyes flashed with a wild, unhinged excitement.

"Let him draw more!" Yua cackled, wiping her chin with the back of her wrist, her long crimson claws clicking together like iron shears. "Look at him up there! He’s swelling up like a bloated tick on a hound’s back! Bigger targets burn faster, Kyle! Just say the word and I’ll jump straight down his throat!"

Kyle remained standing at the apex of the central stone fragment, thirty paces ahead of them.

His dark coat whipped around his legs like a frayed battle pennant in the gale. Outwardly, he appeared cold, impassive, a silhouette carved from shadow and obsidian. But beneath his ribs, his core was screaming. The black demon fire circulating through his meridians felt like liquid glass, scouring his channels raw every time he drew upon his dark element. The lingering recoil from his *Void Divider* was a dull, throbbing pain behind his left eye, blurring his vision with faint violet static.

’Snow, analyze his current energy distribution,’ Kyle commanded internally, keeping his voice strictly level within his mind space. ’Give me the structural weakness.’

’Analyzing Lord Cassian’s primary mana grid,’ Snow’s voice resonated instantly, clear and sharp, cutting through the internal noise of his aching core. A glowing, intricate tactical overlay materialized across Kyle’s retinas, mapping Cassian’s body and the four pulsating nerve cables connecting his spine to the Throne of Marrow. ’Target is currently drawing 142% of his baseline capacity directly from the Spire’s primary key. His physical durability and spatial acceleration have doubled, rendering direct physical strikes against his main body ineffective.’

’And the cables?’ Kyle asked.

’The four nerve cables have swollen to twice their original thickness to accommodate the energy flux,’ Snow explained, highlighting the four thick, crimson conduits in brilliant crimson light. ’Because they are carrying unrefined, hyper-compressed spatial mana, their defensive spatial armor has become rigid and brittle. They are no longer merely power conduits—they are now his primary physical tethers to this dimension. If all four cables are severed simultaneously, the unrefined spatial energy backflow will cause an immediate, catastrophic core collapse.’

’Simultaneously,’ Kyle repeated mentaly. ’What’s the window?’

’Maximum allowable margin of error between all four strikes is zero-point-two seconds,’ Snow warned. ’A failure to sync the strikes within this window will allow the remaining cables to channel the feedback back into the throne, triggering a localized spatial detonation that will vaporize everything within a three-hundred-meter radius.’

Kyle took a single, deep breath, letting the thin, freezing mountain air fill his burning lungs. He lowered his dark shadow blade until the tip rested against the cracked surface of the marble block, its dark steel quiet, absorbing the ambient crimson glow of the hall.

He turned his head slightly, his dark slitted eyes catching the gazes of Falcon, Seraphina, and Yua behind him.

"Listen to me carefully," Kyle said, his voice quiet, flat, yet carrying an absolute authority that instantly cut through the roaring wind and Yua’s manic laughter. "We aren’t going to engage his main body anymore. He’s baiting us into a war of attrition we can’t win. We’re cutting the four cables behind his back."

Falcon raised an eyebrow, her golden eyes narrowing as she looked at the four thick, undulating conduits of raw crimson energy anchored to the throne. "Kyle, those cables are glowing like miniature suns. Touch one with a normal blade and your steel will melt before it cuts halfway through. My poison fire can corrode spatial mana, but it needs time to bite!"

"You won’t be cutting it alone," Kyle said calmly. "We divide the targets. Seraphina, you use your ocean domain to conduct and compress Falcon’s poison fire into a high-pressure, hydro-thermal jet. Target Cable One on the far left. The water will act as a physical stabilizer, preventing the green fire from dispersing under the spatial pressure."

Seraphina’s eyes widened slightly in realization, then sharpened into steel. She gripped her ocean trident with both hands, planting the butt firmly against the stone. "Hydro-thermal compression... I can channel the stream, but I’ll need every drop of mana I have left. I can only hold the jet focused for two seconds."

"Two seconds is more than enough," Kyle said. He shifted his gaze to Yua. "Yua, Cable Two on the far right is yours. You aren’t cutting it from the outside. You’re plunging your claws deep into the nerve cluster at the root and igniting your blood-mana from within. Force a localized core explosion inside the cable."

Yua’s grin widened, revealing her sharp ivory fangs. "A bomb from the inside? Oh, I like that. I like that a lot. But the feedback’s going to blow my arms off, boss."

"Seraphina will extend her ocean barrier to wrap around your upper body the instant you make contact," Kyle answered without missing a beat. "You won’t lose your arms."

"And Cables Three and Four?" Falcon asked, her brown tails swaying in a precise, combat-ready cadence. "Those are the central conduits directly behind his spine. He’s guarding those with his personal spatial field."

"Falcon, you take Cable Three with your tail whip," Kyle said, his voice dropping into a dark, lethal register. "Infect the cable base with your pure endothermic poison fire. Frost-crack the spatial casing so the pressure inside tears it apart."

"And Cable Four?" Falcon pressed.

"Cable Four belongs to me," Kyle said, his dark gauntlet humming as black, quiet smoke began to pool around his fingers. "And so does his head if he steps out of line."

Up on the dais, Lord Cassian watched the four of them conferring in the distance. The crimson blood-mana radiating from his body had grown so dense that it formed a physical halo of dark red light around his snow-white hair, making his pale skin look like polished porcelain stained with wine. He held his bleeding left arm aloft, watching the dark demon fire continue to burn stubbornly inside his wound, resisting his ancient vampiric regeneration.

"Plotting in the dark, little rats?" Cassian mocked, his voice echoing from every wall, every pillar, every floating stone simultaneously. It was a terrifying, disorienting acoustic effect that made it impossible to pinpoint his location by sound alone. "You speak of tactics and targets as if you were grandmasters on a board. You fail to realize... I am not playing a game with you."

Cassian’s crimson eyes flashed with an ancient, murderous light.

*VAMPIRIC ART: VOID SPECTER STEP!*

There was no sound. No displacement of air. No spatial ripple.

Cassian simply vanished from the dais. He didn’t move through physical space, nor did he use a standard spatial acceleration step. He literally erased his presence from the tapestry of the room, reappearing a fraction of a millisecond later directly in front of Seraphina, his slender frame blocking out the silver moonlight streaming through the roof.

His elongated fangs were fully bared, dripping with viscous, clear venom, and his right hand was raised high—his long, crimson claws extended like five razor-sharp daggers of condensed blood-stone, aimed straight for Seraphina’s exposed throat.

"Start with the sea princess!" Cassian shrieked, his voice splitting into a dual-toned, predatory screech that paralyzed the surrounding air. "Let’s see your water hold back your own arterial blood!"

Seraphina’s eyes widened in sudden, icy terror. The speed was absolute—far beyond anything the vampire patriarch had displayed during their initial exchange. She tried to raise her ocean trident to parry, but the heavy gravimetric field locked her wrists, making her movements feel like swimming through wet cement.

*CLANG!*

A blinding shower of orange and dark-red sparks exploded inches from Seraphina’s nose.

Kyle was there.

He hadn’t used a spatial step—he had predicted Cassian’s target based on Snow’s tactical heat-map, launching himself off his marble block the instant Cassian’s mana signature flickered. His pitch-black demon gauntlet was raised high, his iron fingers clamping down around the base of Cassian’s incoming claws, holding the lethal strike barely two inches from Seraphina’s throat.

The sheer, overwhelming kinetic weight of Cassian’s overloaded strength slammed into Kyle like a falling mountain. The marble block beneath Kyle’s boots instantly shattered into fine white powder under the downward force, forcing Kyle to drop to one knee on a lower stone fragment, his dark coat sweeping across the dust. The dark metal of his gauntlet shrieked under the pressure, deep hairline fractures appearing along the knuckle plates as he held the vampire back.

"You’re too slow, Conner!" Cassian roared, leaning his pale face down until his glowing red eyes were inches from Kyle’s slitted pupils. His breath smelled of bitter copper and ancient decay. "You burn your own soul just to match my casual movements! Look at your hand! Your dark system is breaking you from the inside out! You cannot protect them!"

"I don’t need to protect them," Kyle growled through gritted teeth, blood oozing from his gums and staining his lips red. "They know their job."

Kyle’s dark eyes flashed with a sudden, terrifying flare of pure black fire. He didn’t push Cassian back; instead, he opened his gauntleted hand, allowing Cassian’s claws to slide an inch forward, deliberately locking their arms together in a brutal, bone-crushing bind that trapped the vampire patriarch in place for a single, glorious second.

"Seraphina! Falcon! NOW!" Kyle screamed, his voice tearing his throat raw.

Seraphina didn’t freeze. She didn’t gasp or offer a word of thanks. Trusting Kyle’s guard with a absolute, terrifying clarity born from surviving a dozen near-death battles beside him, she ignored the vampire hovering two inches from her face entirely.

She spun her body away, driving the butt of her ocean trident into the floating marble fragment beneath her feet.

"Ocean Art: Pressurized Hydro-Spire!"

A thick, violent column of pressurized sea water erupted from the three prongs of her trident, shooting across the hall toward Cable One on the far left. Simultaneously, Falcon leaped off her ledge, soaring high into the air above Kyle and Cassian’s locked arms. Her dark brown skin gleamed under the moonlight as all four of her dark brown tails whipped forward in unison, pointing straight at the rushing stream of sea water.

"Poison Fire Art: Emerald Lance!" Falcon yelled, her golden eyes wild and unbroken.

All four of her tails unleashed a torrent of endothermic green fire directly into the core of Seraphina’s water column. The interaction was instantaneous and violent. The super-cooled green fire did not extinguish in the water; instead, the pressurized water trapped the toxic chemical reaction, compressing the endothermic fire into a super-dense, roaring green thermal jet that tore through the air like a localized beam of liquid destruction.

The hydro-thermal jet bypassed Cassian’s main body entirely, hitting Cable One at the exact point where it anchored into the stone dais.

*BOOOOOM!*

The thick, pulsating crimson cable swelled like an over-inflated vein before bursting into a towering geyser of acid-green steam and severed spatial fibers.

"AAAAGH!"

Cassian let out a strangled, agonizing shriek as a massive wave of raw, unrefined spatial feedback surged backward through his remaining tethers, blasting straight into his spine. The crimson halo around his white hair flickered violently, and the blood-red barrier over his chest cracked wide open, exposing his ancient, pale flesh beneath.

"MY POWER?!" Cassian screamed, his head snapping toward the severed cable in sheer, unadulterated horror. "MY GATEWAY?!"

"Cable Two is mine, you ugly leech!" Yua’s feral voice echoed from the right side of the hall.

She had used the distraction to sprint around the outer perimeter of the room, bounding off the remaining obsidian pillars like a crimson streak. She leaped forty feet through the air, her body spinning like a deadly drill, and plunged both of her hands deep into the base of Cable Two. Her long claws tore through the spatial casing, sinking deep into the pulsating nerve cluster inside.

"Blood Art: Crimson Detonation!" Yua roared, channeling every drop of her volatile demon blood into the cable’s core.

A brilliant, dark-red explosion erupted from inside the cable, tearing the conduit apart from the interior out. A sphere of pressurized blood-mana exploded outward, but before the concussive backlash could rip Yua’s arms off, a translucent blue bubble of sea water—extended by Seraphina from fifty yards away—wrapped around Yua’s torso, absorbing eighty percent of the explosive shockwave and hurling her safely onto a stone block below.

*KA-BANG!*

Cable Two snapped cleanly in two, its severed ends thrashing like wounded snakes as raw spatial energy sprayed across the throne.

Cassian’s body shuddered uncontrollably. The loss of two primary conduits caused sixty percent of his drawn spatial mana to instantly backfire into his internal meridians. He coughed up a thick fountain of black, unholy blood, his knees buckling as his physical strength plunged. The regal, unyielding vampire patriarch was gone—replaced by a wounded, frantic monster whose skin was rapidly cracking like dry clay under the internal spatial pressure.

"You... you filthy, lower-realm insects!" Cassian spat, his voice cracking with a mixture of hysterical rage and creeping, primal terror. Black blood leaked from his eyes, his nose, and his ears as his core struggled to contain the chaotic energy. "I am Lord Cassian! I am the First Patriarch! I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED BY MONGRELS!"

He tried to raise his right hand, intending to force his remaining core energy into a manual spatial explosion that would take the entire mountain peak down with him. "I will drag this entire plateau into the void!"

"Falcon! Cable Three!" Kyle commanded, his voice cutting through the vampire’s frantic screams like a guillotine blade.

Falcon didn’t need to be told twice. She executed a mid-air twist, her four dark brown tails expanding to their absolute limit. With a deafening crack that sounded like a whip breaking the sound barrier, her tails slammed into Cable Three, unleashing a final, blinding burst of endothermic green fire that frost-cracked the spatial casing and snapped the third conduit cleanly from the throne.

*CRACK-SNAP!*

With three cables severed within less than half a second of each other, the entire feedback loop collapsed into a single, terrifying point of origin.

The fourth and final central cable—Cable Four—began to pulse erratically, glowing with a blinding violet light as the Spire’s primary key attempted to pull its failing, corrupted vessel back through the spatial tear. The gravitational pull inverted, dragging Cassian’s thrashed, bleeding body backward toward the throne like an anchor sinking into the sea.

Cassian thrashed against the pull, reaching out his trembling, clawed hand toward Kyle. His eyes were wide, filled with a frantic, desperate plea that held no more noble pride, no more aristocratic arrogance—only the raw, pathetic fear of an immortal creature facing true extinction.

"Kyle... wait!" Cassian choked out, his voice raspy and broken as his flesh began to peel away in black flakes. "The Spire... you don’t know what lies beyond the gate! It is a graveyard of gods! You need my knowledge... you need my lineage to survive!"

Kyle stepped onto the top step of the dais, his boots coming to a rest three feet from the thrashing vampire patriarch.

He didn’t look at the glowing spatial tear above. He didn’t look at the crumbling throne. He looked down into Cassian’s terrified, blood-soaked face, his slitted dark eyes completely devoid of pity, anger, or hesitation. He raised his dark shadow blade high above his head, the dark steel absorbing the moonlight until the blade vanished into a singular, razor-thin line of absolute, pitch-black void.

"I don’t need your lineage, Cassian," Kyle said, his voice dropping into a quiet, chilling whisper that was heard clearly across the quiet hall. "And I don’t need your permission to pass."

The line of dark void energy hovered above Cassian’s neck, ready to deliver the absolute severance that would end the reign of the Blood Moon Clan forever.
