VIVIAN

Vega lay inside a transparent medical capsule.

Cold blue light passed over his body as dozens of scanners moved around him.

The capsule hummed softly. A medical interface displayed his readings in the air.

POLLUTION RATE: 88%

BERSERK RATE: 88%

The medical capsule finally opened.

A male Healer stood beside it, staring at the results in disbelief.

"Sentinel Vega..."

He looked up.

"Your pollution and berserk rate are both at eighty-eight percent."

Vega slowly opened his eyes.

The Healer frowned. "What happened? IT was 90 last time?"

He folded his arms. "Did you finally accept female soothing?"

Vega sat up. "No."

The Healer stared at him. "No?"

"I haven’t received any female soothing."

The Healer looked back at the readings. "Then why has your berserk rate decreased?"

Vega remained silent.."I don’t feel my spiritual energy leaving my body anymore."

The Healer’s expression became even more confused. "If you didn’t engage in spiritual soothing, then how did this happen?"

He pointed at the readings. "This isn’t scientifically possible."

Vega glanced at the screen.

The Healer continued. "Did you take suppressants?"

"You know suppressants wouldn’t work on me."

The Healer sighed. "That is exactly why I’m asking."

He leaned closer. "Did you notice anything unusual recently?"

Vega thought for a moment. "Nothing unusual."

Then he remembered Vivian. "...But I met her again.."

The Healer raised an eyebrow. "Who is her?"

"Vivian."

"How long were you together?"

"A few hours."

"And?"

"She touched me."

The Healer stared. Vega continued calmly. "Maybe that’s the reason."

The Healer’s eyes widened. "Touched you? Like touch you? Where and where did she touch? Your spiritual energy didn’t reject her? It shouldn’t be so."

Vega pulled up the recording from the ship.

The video showed Vivian touching his chest while spiritual energy surrounded them.

The Healer watched carefully. He replayed it. Then again.

"Hmmm..."

He suddenly paused the recording. "Is that same Vivian?"

Vega nodded. "The same Vivian my apprentice examined? Is she the Vivian you talk about.?"

"The one she said has no Beast Core?"

"Yes."

The Healer rubbed his chin. "Perhaps she uses an artificial core like you."

Vega looked at him. "Artificial?"

"Yes. If she has a higher grade artificial core, it could explain why the scanners can’t detect it."

Vega replied. "If she has a higher grade one. Why isn’t she awakened like me? Why is She still a Zero class female"

The Healer immediately activated his communicator. "There’s only one way to find out."

He contacted someone. A few minutes later, the door opened.

A female doctor entered. It was the same female Doctor that examined Vivian in the Military.

She immediately bowed. "Sentinel."

The Healer looked at her. "Are you certain?"

She raised her head. "About what?"

"That Vivian has no Beast Core."

The female doctor nodded. "Yes. I’m certain."

She glanced at Vega. "Since Sentinel Vega appears interested in her, I’ve already applied to become her personal Military Doctor."

Vega’s eyes narrowed. "Or Darius Valen requested it?"

The female doctor’s body stiffened. She immediately bowed. She didn’t answer.

Vega’s voice became colder. "Is your loyalty to me..."

He paused. "Or to Darius?"

The female doctor swallowed. "To you, Sir."

Vega stared at her for a moment. "Leave."

She bowed. "Yes, Sentinel."

She turned and left. The door closed.

The male Healer Alex sighed. "Vega..."

Vega looked at him.

The Healer’s expression became serious. "Are you sure you want anything to do with Vivian Astronova?"

Vega didn’t answer. "Don’t forget what happened fifteen years ago."

His voice lowered. "The Astronova family isn’t a family you should get involved with after that incident.."

Vega stood. He walked toward his wheelchair and sat down. Vega could walk a few steps but he doesn’t have enough Spiritual energy to support his broken bone.

He straightened his clothes. "Don’t worry, Alex."

He adjusted his sleeve. "I’ll keep my distance."

He looked toward the door. "I already sent her away."

Alex stared at him. "You don’t have to send her away yet. I am just saying. Now she is useful and we can use her."

Vega frowned.

"She may be able to heal you." Alex stepped closer. "If she can lower your berserk rate simply by touching you, why not stay close to her for a while?"

Vega’s expression hardened. "So you can experiment on her?"

"I won’t harm her." Alex shook his head.

"We can observe her spiritual energy. Carefully. We can find out why she affects you. And why does a non awakened Female can soothe a awakened 4S Male."

Vega looked away. "You know why I chose this mission in Ignora."

Alex became silent.

"I don’t want anything more to do with Haxia."

Vega’s fingers tightened around the wheelchair. "I came here because I want to rest."

His voice became quieter. "Ignora is my resting place."

Alex stared at him. "Vega..."

"I’m tired."

Vega looked down at his legs. "My legs are already paralyzed."

His expression was calm. "I’m useless now."

Alex’s eyes reddened. "Don’t say that. No one will ever call you useless. You are just 24 and have done a lot for Haxia."

"Put your heart into something that can benefit Haxia soldiers." Vega looked at his friend. "Forget about a dying Sentinel like me."

He gave a faint smile. "There are many other people who need your help."

Alex walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder. "If you give up now..."

He stared at Vega. "How do you expect the Federick family to pay for what they did?"

Vega’s expression changed slightly.

"Do you really think your heart will be at peace if you simply disappear?"

Before Vega could answer....

Ding! The female doctor’s voice came through the communication system. "Doctor Alex."

Alex touched the communicator. "Yes?"

"Recruit Vivian Valen has arrived."

Alex’s eyes immediately lit up. A smile appeared on his face. "Perfect!. Talking about the Fox and she shows up."

He turned toward the door. "I want to meet this female without a Beast Core."

He walked out quickly.

Vega sighed. Then he pressed the control on his wheelchair. The machine began moving.

The large sitting room was quiet. Vivian stood near the entrance, she was admiring the Sentinel’s home in Ignora. It looked like Heaven while hers looked like Hell..

The moment she saw Alex, she immediately saluted. "Sir!"

She saluted because he wore the Military highest ranked Doctor Uniform.

But Alex barely acknowledged the salute. He walked around her, checking her out carefully.

He placed one hand beneath his chin.

Vivian’s eyes followed him.

What is he doing?

He walked around her again.

Vivian frowned.

Why is this man inspecting me like I’m an animal in a marketplace?

Alex suddenly stopped. "Hmmm..."

He looked at her from head to toe. "No Beast Core..."

Vivian’s eyebrow twitched. She wanted to ask what he meant..

The sound of a wheelchair approached. Vivian turned. Vega entered the room.

Their eyes met. For a moment, neither of them moved.

Vega’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. He felt a load pressing on his chest.

Vega’s eyes widened slightly. Something strange stirred inside him.

A memory. A feeling he thought he had forgotten.

For the first time in years...his heart began beating wildly.
