Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 599 Petrified
“You heard all that?” Jasper Rockwell suddenly slung an arm over Zane Langdon’s shoulder. “If I’m going to sell myself, I might as well sell myself to you.”
“Jasper!” Zane Langdon snapped, pushing Jasper off and striding toward the car.
Jasper Rockwell watched Zane’s retreating back and scratched his head.
‘What I meant was, I’ll stop taking a salary from Evan Fairchild. That guy’s a total scammer! Trying to get rid of me for a measly million. I could be like Sean Coleman and get my salary paid directly by Zane.’
‘Wouldn’t that be the same as selling myself to Zane?’
Zane Langdon started the car and drove right past Jasper Rockwell.
Jasper chased after it. The car wasn’t going fast, but it didn’t stop.
“Hey, it’s hard to get a cab here!” Jasper yelled, not ready to give up.
But the car just drove further and further away, disappearing into the night.
Jasper glanced around and immediately pulled his jacket tighter. The March chill was no joke.
He scanned his surroundings. Not a single taxi in sight.
After waiting for several minutes, he finally saw one, but it already had a passenger and sped right past.
Jasper squatted by the roadside and chugged the last bit of alcohol left in the bottle.
Holding the bottle, he started scratching lines back and forth on the ground.
The blue sports car reversed, pulling up in front of Jasper.
Jasper lifted his head and glanced over. He quickly set the bottle on the ground and stood up to greet Zane Langdon.
“Get in,” Zane ordered, his voice devoid of patience.
Jasper immediately started walking, but his footing was unsteady. His body swayed, and before he could even open the car door, he plopped right onto the ground!
“OWW!” A theatrical howl pierced the air.
Seeing his state, Zane unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the door, and got out.
His brow furrowed even tighter at the sight before him.
Jasper had managed to sit right on the bottle he had just casually tossed aside!
‘Unbelievable!’
Jasper rubbed his sore backside, a pained look on his face.
Zane couldn’t bear to watch anymore and averted his gaze.
“Are you done? If you’re done, get in the car!”
Jasper let go with one hand to try and pull the door handle, but he fumbled twice and missed. He was really starting to feel dizzy!
Suddenly, a firm grip on his arm—Zane had grabbed him. The floating sensation instantly found an anchor.
Zane pulled the door open and stuffed Jasper inside.
“Gently! That hurts like hell!”
Zane shot him a look. He didn’t get in the car right away. Staring at the bottle on the ground, he felt he needed a moment to cool off.
Jasper didn’t rush him. Leaning back against the seat, he felt the alcohol numbing his senses. His eyelids felt heavy, almost too heavy to keep open.
After letting the cold wind blow on him for a moment, Zane opened the door and got in. The moment he settled into his seat, he heard Jasper let out a snore.
‘I should have just left him here for someone to pick up!’
‘No, this is Shawn Fisher’s territory. And what’s Jasper’s status? He’s with The Sovereign. Someone would have taken care of him.’
‘So me coming back was completely pointless!’
He looked at Jasper’s sleeping face, took a deep breath, leaned over, pulled out the seatbelt, and buckled him in.
Just as he was about to pull back, Jasper suddenly moved, his lips brushing against Zane’s cheek.
Zane froze instantly, his body stiff and unable to move.
After a long moment, he finally glanced over at Jasper.
Jasper was sound asleep, his lips even twitching slightly.
Zane immediately sat bolt upright and rolled down the window.
‘It was like all the oxygen had just been sucked out of the car. Only now, with the cold wind blowing in, did he feel like he could breathe properly again.’
‘Is Jasper really…?’
‘No! Impossible!’
‘But whether Jasper is or not, I’m definitely not!’
