Chapter 297: 297: Cubs won’t eat!

Days turned into weeks, and weeks had become months. Sunnie’s tribe had grown more into a bustling atmosphere with the beastmen around bearing more cubs and expanding life and events.

The tribe had gone through more development with changes happening to the caves and wooden houses.

It was farming season again, so storage spaces were being worked on in the tribe. Men worked on storage spaces to improve more storage for the season while the kids ran around playing.

Sun and Kan, the eagle and tiger beast cubs, were running around the tribe’s surroundings, playing tag while running after one another and laughing.

It was a fun, playful atmosphere for them, and they were enjoying themselves. But Maren, who was running after them, wasn’t enjoying it at all.

"Hey, stop there... stop running around... come here!" She called out while going after them endlessly.

The two cubs were still laughing while running as fast as they could. Soon, they caught sight of a butterfly and suddenly changed direction, chasing the butterfly while laughing.

Maren had gotten tired as she sat down at a corner, shaking her head. "Oh, these little ones... why won’t they stop running? They should come and have their lunch or something," she sighed.

Luna and Lune were helping Eris and Luka build some storage space at a distance. They turned and saw Maren sitting there exhausted as they rushed toward her.

"Hey, where are you going... we’re not done..." Eris tried calling them back, but they were already gone.

"What’s wrong?" Luna asked as they arrived at where Maren was.

Maren shook her head with a sigh. "I’m so exhausted. They’ve been running around since morning. I wonder if they ever get tired of it at all."

She sighed as she stared into the distance. The two cubs were still running around.

"Should I go after them? I’ve chased them before and caught them," Luna said with a smile.

"No, don’t go running... they’ll fall and hurt themselves. And Mama and I will give you an earful for sure," Maren said.

Lune sighed as he said, "Maybe we should call Brother Ronan. He always knows how to get them together."

Maren sighed. "Too bad he went farming with Mama."

They sighed as they sat there, watching the little kids running around endlessly. Kan running while flapping his weak wings that weren’t ready to fly off yet.

Soon, Ronan returned with Sunnie. They had returned early, leaving the rest working there.

Luna and Lune instantly ran toward them. "Brother! Brother! The little ones won’t stop running!"

Ronan turned and watched the two kids running after butterflies as always. He smiled as he shook his head. "Again..." He sighed.

He put his hands between his lips and whistled.

Immediately, the two stopped running and turned.

"Mama!" With a smile, the two cubs called as they ran and rushed into Sunnie’s arms. After welcoming back Sunnie, Kan rushed into Ronan’s arms.

"You shouldn’t be stubborn..." Ronan said with a smile. "Listen to Sister Maren and go have your lunch now."

Sunnie smiled as she added, "Yes, do as she said. Okay?"

The two cubs stared up at them as they slowly nodded. Without hesitation, they turned and rushed toward Maren.

"We’re ready to eat."

"Yes."

The two said, smiling profusely while Maren shook her head. "You little rascals, what do I do with you now?" She smiled, patting their heads.

Maren had taken the two to have their meals, almost forcing them to eat because the two little cubs were stubborn again and didn’t want to have vegetables.

Sunnie, Little Black, Ronan, and the twin foxes sat at a distance, watching the scene while preparing the seeds for planting at the farms.

They watched and smiled at Maren struggling to feed the little ones. "I guess Maren has a lot on her hands lately with the little ones," Sunnie smiled.

"Too bad Zuna’s kids aren’t around. She would have been the one handling all four of them," Ronan smiled.

Sunnie shook her head with a smile. Zuna and her husband had already gone back to their tribe. They were heading back to settle down and celebrate with the tribe people.

Zukka had also gone with them to settle for a while. They promised to visit often, and everyone already teased Little Black about this because Zukka wasn’t around. They teased him constantly, saying, "You miss Zukka, right?"

When Maren was done feeding the cubs, Karl and Zayn had arrived. They were done with their work, so they offered to go and take the kids for a bath.

"Have they gotten better at bathing the cubs?" Eris asked, staring at Azure, who was their teacher.

Azure smiled as he shrugged. "Well, I can’t say. The last time they were pretty terrible. The cubs even ran out of the water, running around naked."

Sunnie smiled as she shook her head. Karl and Zayn insisted, so they took the cubs to the stream to give them a bath. Zayn and Karl had taken the cubs to the stream while Azure followed behind.

Lune and Luna were also sitting around and observing with Azure, who was monitoring them from a distance.

Karl and Zayn were not so good at the bathing. They had improved, sitting the cubs close to the water on a rock and washing the water through the cubs while cleaning them up.

But Kan and Sun didn’t seem to want a bath. Immediately as the water touched them, the two cubs instantly rushed up from where they sat and began running through the water, splashing everywhere.

In a short while, it had instantly turned into a mess. The cubs were running around in the water with Karl and Zayn struggling to catch the little ones, running around and splashing more water.

Sun and Kan laughed happily while running around. It was clear they were enjoying the water splash party. Karl and Zayn were certainly not enjoying it.

Azure and the fox twins sat there at a distance, staring at them without words.

"Do you think we should go and help them?" Lune asked.

Luna said nothing. She turned and stared at Azure to know what he would say. But Azure casually sat there with a smile, watching the mess happen.

Luna turned and then said, "No. No need to help. I think it’s good to leave them in the mess to learn. At least that’s what Papa Azure said."

Lune stared at her. "But he didn’t say anything..."

Luna shrugged. "I heard it." And so the three of them sat there watching them run around and splash water around.

It took a while, but it happened. Zayn and Karl had finally calmed down the little ones after a while of running around and messing up. They managed to give them a proper bath even though they were all drenched in the water.

They stared up at Azure, who was sitting there and staring at them with a smile.

Azure nodded. "Congratulations."

---

On evenings in the tribe, Maren always gathered the little ones, Sun and Kan, and sat them down under a tree. She would always tell them stories.

Sun and Kan would sit down attentively listening to the stories Maren would tell. But the mischievous Luna wouldn’t let them have their peaceful moments at all.

While the cubs sat down peacefully and tried to get the stories Maren was telling them, Luna would rush into the scene with the bug she caught.

"Ya!" She would drop the bug in front of the two cubs to scare them. Instantly, Kan and Sun would scream and rush into Maren’s arms.

Then Luna would end up laughing hard.

"Luna, what is it? Stop scaring the little ones," Maren said.

Luna stopped laughing as she said, "I’m only teaching them not to be scared of these things."

"...." Maren shook her head with a sigh. "You little rascal..."

Luna smiled as she said, "Let me take them around and show them things in the forest! I’m sure they’d be excited!"

Maren shook her head. "I know you wish to go and scare the little ones in the forest. Now you have little victims you can play your tricks on. I’m not letting you do that to our poor ones," she insisted.

Luna pouted with a sigh. "No fun at all." She said as she left them and turned, running to where Lune was sitting and picking stones.

Maren sighed as she stared at the two little ones, patting the tiger cub by the ears. "Don’t worry, sister is just playing. She won’t do it again. So let’s continue with our stories."

While she continued her stories, Ronan stepped into the scene and stared at them, disrupting the story she was telling.

Maren stared at him. "What is it now?"

Ronan blinked and then said, "It’s my time. I need to take the cubs and show them how to catch butterflies properly."

"...." Maren blinked.

The two of them had shared periods of who would take the cubs and teach them things. Maren guessed his time was up.
