Chapter 296: 296: Egg Is Missing!

On a bright day, the atmosphere was sunny and beautiful. Everyone was outside working on the farmland harvest, which was rather bountiful. They worked towards making better use of the sun on their crops.

Most of the beastmen were sitting outside, laughing and having fun while enjoying the atmosphere and work at hand. It was a blissful experience for them all to work together while discussing.

Zuna was sitting down with Sunnie without working. Both sat and watched the scene while laughing at the conversation. Their husbands were working hard while they sat around and simply watched.

Not long after, Maren had walked out to the scene to meet Sunnie. "Mama... where are the little ones?"

Sunnie smiled at her. "Oh, you mean Sun and Kan? They’re inside. I put the two of them to rest before coming out. Careful not to wake them up."

But Maren’s face was still stiff as she said, "Are you sure about that?"

Confused, everyone paused as they stared at her. "What do you mean by that?" Luka asked.

"I can’t find the egg inside at all. The little Sun is there sleeping along with the two twin lion cubs, but the egg isn’t there at all. I can’t find him."

Immediately, silence filled the atmosphere as everyone stared around and then stared at Maren. Sunnie and Karl didn’t hesitate at all. They instantly got up to their feet, staring at Maren.

"Are you sure about this?" Karl inquired.

Maren nodded profusely. "Yes! I’m so sure. I thought he was out here with you all... but I didn’t see him at all, so I asked." She was already looking scared and worried.

Without hesitation, they dashed back into the cave to confirm. Just as Maren said, there was no sign of any egg anywhere while the other cubs were sleeping there peacefully.

Sunnie gasped as she staggered. Karl held her firmly while they stared around. No sign of the egg anywhere.

"Where could the little egg have gone?" Little Black gasped. "Where could an egg possibly go to?"

"We should dispatch immediately and begin looking for it. I think the egg has rolled away," he explained as everyone nodded.

"Is that possible? But it’s still little..." Maren said. "How could it possibly know where it’s going then?"

"That’s the problem," Zukka said. "The little one certainly doesn’t know where it’s going, and that’s why it’s dangerous and why we need to find the egg as soon as possible before something happens."

Everyone nodded in agreement while Sunnie stood there panicking.

Zuna calmed her down as she said, "Don’t worry, nothing will happen to the little one. We’ll make sure to find him as fast as possible."

Sunnie slowly nodded, taking that as hope.

Without hesitation, plans for the search were set, and they began dispatching in search of the egg.

Sunnie and Zuna had stayed back with Elza and some ladies. They figured that Sunnie was in shock and needed to be calmed down and kept company.

So they had Zuna and the other women keep her company while calming her down. While they did that, the others had set off in search of the egg, Kan.

Some were positioned to look for the egg around the tribe. Since they believed that the egg might not have gone too far, they decided to have some people look for the egg around the tribe.

The rest were to go out and look for the egg in the woods.

The search party kicked off. Everyone moved around and vigorously looked for the egg in all spaces. They searched through bushes, trees, riversides, and the like without missing anything. They made sure they looked everywhere for the egg.

---

The search was intense. Everyone kept looking everywhere for hours now, and there was still no sign of the egg anywhere.

They grew worried but kept looking. They needed to find the egg by all means.

Ronan was still searching. He was following the search group of his fathers and Maren. They kept moving until Ronan decided to divert.

Ronan sniffed and had a feeling of something, so he decided to follow his instincts and branched off. Curious, Maren followed him, and soon the two of them were walking alone on a path in search of the egg.

"Where are you going? We should follow the others," she explained.

But Ronan kept sniffing. "I have a strange idea that I’m getting a familiar smell... so let’s look around here." He said, following his nose while moving.

Maren was skeptical but followed him anyway.

The two of them moved for a while. Maren was giving up since they weren’t seeing anything at all. But Ronan persistently moved, trusting his instincts until he finally got what he wanted.

"Kan?" Ronan called as Maren looked closely at the scene.

What they saw wasn’t an egg at all. Rather, it was a little boy—a tiny male egg beastman. The little boy was lying there naked close to the bushes, roughly covered by leaves.

The little one had tiny little black wings of a bird. Immediately, Maren smiled at the sight. "Is that...?"

Ronan rushed up to the cub as Maren followed. The two instantly went down to their knees before the little cub while they stared closely at it in admiration.

"This is... Kan," Maren smiled as she said. "The little one hatched... I never knew it’d hatch now since it was already taking so long."

Ronan smiled as he said, "Yes."

Maren stared at him. "But how did you know where to look for him?"

Ronan smiled as he scratched his hair. "Eh, actually I wasn’t too sure, though." He smiled. "I kind of accidentally spilled chicken soup around the egg this morning, so I sort of followed the smell."

Ronan smiled, scratching his hair as he said. Maren stared at him, speechless, and then smiled, shaking her head.

"You and your weird acts. Well, I guess we found him because of that, so that’s nice, little one," Maren smiled, patting Ronan on the hair.

Ronan smiled as he turned to the little one. He smiled as he said, "We should get him back." Ronan looked around. "First, let’s get him something to wear."

Ronan quickly put together some leaves and then made some clothing, which he wrapped little Kan in. The little one simply smiled and giggled comfortably while he put it on him.

"I think little Kan is comfortable with you," Maren smiled as she watched from the side, happy and comfortable.

Ronan smiled happily as he dressed him up. "That will do." He smiled down at the little one. "How are you doing, little one? Don’t be scared... I’m your elder brother... you can call me Ronan. And this is your elder sister... you can call her Maren... okay? So you’re completely safe!"

Ronan smiled while introducing them to little Kan.

As the little one stared directly at Ronan, he let out a bright smile and giggled. It was a very bright giggle that had Ronan smiling too.

Maren smiled as she said, "Aww, the little one loves you so much. I think he’s ultimately attached to you... that was the same smile you gave me when you were so little. I’ll never forget that bright smile."

Ronan stared at the little one smiling at him as he also smiled.

Ronan stretched out his fingers as little Kan grabbed him firmly by the fingers, playing with his fingers while giggling as Ronan smiled profusely.

After a while, little Kan finally opened his mouth and said something vague. "Bada... rona... Rona..." He kept babbling as Maren smiled.

"Did you hear that? He called your name first. You’re the first word little Kan said. That’s so sweet." Maren seemed happy and more excited than Ronan himself. "That’s so sweet. I can’t wait to tell Mum and the rest about this."

Ronan, on the other hand, smiled while staring at little Kan without words. At that moment, he felt his heart melt. He didn’t have any worries about his previous insecurities at all.

Right at that moment, he felt assured. He felt the strong need to take care of the little ones better who looked up to him. And he was going to make sure he was always there for them.

"We should get going now," Maren said, standing up with a smile. "Others must be waiting for us."

With that, Ronan carried the little one gently in his arms while they made their way back.

As soon as they brought little Kan, everyone was relieved and happy again. They were extremely happy to see that the egg had finally hatched.

Little Kan was seated on a rock while everyone came to admire the little one, showing their adoration for him while Karl proudly sat down close to his cub, watching everyone admire him.

Maren, on the other hand, didn’t stop spreading the news on how the little one had said Ronan’s name and how it was his first words. She was rather super excited to share the news over and over again.

While she did, Sunnie and Zuna sat in a corner, now relieved as they watched everything go back to normal again.

The egg was found, and the little one had hatched safely. And so the mothers would catch a break for the meantime. Because at the end of the day, troubles of little ones were unending.
