Chapter 327: Chapter 92: Please Kill Me

After the gold coins vanished, a multitude of weapons appeared.

A single glance was enough to tell these weapons were no ordinary items. It was as if the art department had thrown every special effect in the game onto them, making them look like a collection of world-ending, mythological artifacts.

There was a complete arsenal of weapons, every kind of armor imaginable, and even a large number of accessories glowing with red light. The quality of every single item was even better than Duan Fei’s Glasses.

But Duan Fei only paused to look for a moment before continuing on his way.

When the weapons also proved ineffective, a surprised voice seemed to echo from the air.

Then, the weapons vanished as well.

After a brief moment of calm, Duan Fei saw new things appearing beside the path.

A magnificent candy house appeared. Its walls were made of sandwich cookies, its roof beams of soft bread, and clouds of cotton candy hung overhead. Even the water in the well had turned into sweet milk.

Ignoring these things, Duan Fei continued onward.

‘He had already sensed that something here was trying to lure him off the path, but the “chips” they were offering were clearly not good enough.’

As he progressed, more and more things appeared around him. Duan Fei even saw several sexy Slimes dressed in white silk stockings, waving small leather whips and gazing at him with what could only be described as deep affection.

‘Any player who could be tempted by *this* probably has some issues.’

After that, he even saw Jinghong appear in a deep pit by the side of the road. The moment she saw Duan Fei, she immediately shouted, “Duan Someone, hurry over and pull me out!”

Duan Fei decisively messaged Jinghong. “What are you up to?”

“Taking photos and screenshots. Something really pretty just appeared by the road.”

“Oh? Send it over, let me see.”

“That is something I would never show you as long as I live.”

Staring at her reply, Duan Fei felt a pang of sadness for some reason.

‘My daughter’s all grown up…’

He sighed. But this also confirmed that the person over there wasn’t the real Jinghong, so he continued on his way.

He then saw Cuihua, Eight Desolates, and the others, but he had no intention of getting involved and simply kept walking.

Finally, when it seemed like the path had run out of tricks, he heard a voice. “Congratulations, you have succeeded. Congratulations on passing the nineteenth floor. However, before you meet the Demon King, I have a few questions for you.”

“Go ahead.”

“Why weren’t you tempted? I placed every temptation I could possibly think of along the path. I even created Illusions of your companions, but you remained completely unmoved. Why?”

Duan Fei looked up at the sky, exasperated. ‘You call that stuff temptation?’

‘The gold coins weren’t Abyss currency, so they were completely useless. Why would I bother picking them up?’

‘None of the weapons could be taken out of here. A quick look at their Descriptions confirmed it. What use would they be to me?’

‘And my companions? That was even less of a concern. Putting aside the fact that they were Illusions, even if they were real, they could just die and respawn. There was absolutely no need to rescue them.’

‘All in all, what this being called “temptations” were no temptations at all.’

‘This just goes to show how bizarre players must seem to NPCs. The only reason for our existence is to have fun and get stronger. Nothing else can tempt us in the slightest.’

However, Duan Fei didn’t know if the voice could detect lies, so he gave an ambiguous answer. “The reason is simple. I just didn’t want any of those things.”

“Hmm… You don’t seem to be lying. In that case, what is it that you want?”

“To defeat the Demon King.”

The moment he said this, Duan Fei felt the surrounding temperature instantly drop by ten degrees.

This wasn’t a psychological effect, but a physical change.

He saw the dew on the ground begin to freeze. The air grew frigid as a piercing wind howled, carrying a deep chill into the mysterious area.

Just as Duan Fei thought the mysterious being was about to finish him off, he heard it speak in a ghostly voice. “I am Siren, one of the Four Heavenly Kings. My duty is to protect the Demon King. I should be stopping you, but the Demon King’s orders take priority. Go, Adventurer.”

The environment changed again, and Duan Fei found himself standing in a room.

The room was brightly lit. Countless Magic Lamps covered the ceiling, making the space as bright as day.

Behind him was a wall painted to look like a meadow. Four Slimes were still walking across it, but no matter how Duan Fei shouted, they didn’t respond.

Moving closer, Duan Fei discovered Jinghong staring at a Slime that was the same color as him.

Cuihua was trapped in the candy house, where she was learning candy recipes from the Witch inside.

The Shadow God was admiring the weapons, unable to put them down. Meanwhile, Eight Desolates was hanging out with the sexy Slimes and playing the King’s Game.

Duan Fei could understand what happened to the others, but Eight Desolates’s situation left him speechless.

‘Eight Desolates…’

‘I never would have guessed. You always act so prim and proper, but you’re actually a pervert who gets feelings for Slimes.’

‘Looks like I really am the most normal one here.’

Mentally giving himself a thumbs-up, Duan Fei turned and walked forward.

A path paved with a red carpet stretched out before him, as if to show him the way.

Lifeless suits of armor stood on either side of the path. As Duan Fei passed, they turned slightly and bowed, a gesture of respect for the Adventurer who had made it this far.

As he reached a fork in the road, an orchestra suddenly began to play. A host of instruments produced a melodious sound, fully expressing their joy.

When he passed an open-air dais, the red carpet deliberately looped around it, giving him a view of a crowd of blurry shadows below. They threw confetti and erupted in deafening cheers.

Duan Fei didn’t consider himself the type to get swept up in the moment, but faced with such a ceremonial finale, he couldn’t help but feel a little moved.

‘It feels like I’ve already slain the Demon King.’

To the sound of the grand, ceremonial orchestra, Duan Fei finally reached the end of the red carpet and saw the person standing there.

The man had an overwhelming presence. He hadn’t said a word, yet Duan Fei knew with a single glance that this was the Demon King.

He was a handsome man with a serene smile on his face. He wasn’t wearing armor, but rather a simple set of casual clothes.

As Duan Fei approached, the man spread his hands and spoke in a cheerful voice. “Welcome, Adventurer. I have been waiting for so long… so long that I was about to give up. But thank heavens, you’ve finally arrived. Congratulations on completing the many challenges, making your way from the first floor all the way to the twentieth, right here before me. I have one question for you: Did you enjoy the journey?”

Even though this man was his enemy, Duan Fei surprisingly felt no desire to fight.

Perhaps it was because the Demon King’s attitude was so amiable that Duan Fei actually gave it some thought before replying, “It was alright.”

“That’s good to hear. Now, as the final destination of your journey, please complete your mission.”

Handing over a silver dagger, the Demon King guided Duan Fei’s hand to grasp the hilt, aimed the tip at his own chest, and said with a smile, “Please, kill me.”
