There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!

Chapter 326 - 91: The Temptation of the 19th Floor

  • Next Chapter

Titan had long known Duan Fei was despicable, but he never expected him to be this despicable.

Ever since Duan Fei returned, these guys had stopped fighting.

And it wasn’t just them. Some Slimes who arrived later were also persuaded by the others to stop fighting. No matter how much Titan provoked them, they remained unmoved.

In Titan’s eyes, every single one of these Slimes was a sumptuous feast, each with a unique flavor.

Gazing at these delicious morsels, he yearned to savor them one by one, but he couldn’t attack unless they challenged him first.

Left with no other choice, he could only suppress his craving for food and begin summoning new Demons.

But the very instant the Demons appeared, the Slimes sprang into action.

A massive Golem had just emerged from the other side of the arena when a dozen or so Slimes madly charged it, their weapons striking its body.

These dozen or so Slimes were all top-ranked star players. Attacking in unison, they gave the Golem no chance to retaliate, hacking it to pieces in an instant.

"What are you doing!" Titan roared furiously. "That’s my food."

"Finders keepers," Duan Fei replied lazily.

Titan shot Duan Fei a furious glare, then resumed summoning.

This time, a massive Hydra emerged. But before it could fully enter the arena, another dozen players dashed out. The Hydra’s nine heads promptly fell to the ground, sending the terrifying Demon to its doom.

Realizing Duan Fei was kill-stealing his mobs, an enraged Titan strode up to him and bellowed, "You pack of Slimes, stop!"

"Let us pass first."

"Impossible! The rules state that I only lose when my shoulders touch the ground."

"Then let your shoulders touch the ground."

"Are you asking me to throw the match?! There’s no honor in that!"

"Fine, then we’ll just wait it out. And just so you know, we’re very patient. We can keep this up for a year."

Duan Fei didn’t mention that their event time was limited to just seven more days. Instead, he nonchalantly sat down, projecting an attitude of ’We’ve got all the time in the world; we can outlast you.’

New Demons continued to emerge, but as more star players and other powerful players arrived, the Demons couldn’t even make it through the gate.

The perimeter of the arena was now packed with Slimes. Whenever a Demon appeared, they would strike swiftly, slaying it instantly and denying Titan the pleasure of battle.

Seeing that there was no exciting fight to watch, the shadows in the audience stands let out piercing boos. The players, however, simply turned the volume off, ignoring them.

After all, they had all fought their way here; you couldn’t survive without being thick-skinned.

Some players even showed their round, rolling bottoms to the audience, which only made the booing louder.

Titan seemed to be bound by some rule. His avatar couldn’t leave the arena, and he couldn’t attack anyone who hadn’t challenged him.

For Titan, who satisfied his appetite through combat, the players’ actions were like sewing his mouth shut, making it impossible for him to eat.

And the growing number of Slimes were like a parade of delectable, aromatic dishes. The feeling of being able to see but not touch made him even more starved, yet there was nothing he could do.

Finally, Titan irritably tore at his hair and roared at Duan Fei, "You win! Are you satisfied?! Fine, I’ll put my shoulders to the ground and let you pass! But I have one condition: you have to fight me!"

"No problem. You first."

Humiliated, Titan fell to the ground. His shoulders made full contact with the floor, marking his first-ever defeat in this manner.

Once Titan surrendered, a mural in the rest area began to glow. A small path extended out from it, allowing the players to walk along the path, into the mural, and into the world within the painting.

Slumping into a sitting position, Titan was about to curse Duan Fei out, but then he chuckled in spite of himself.

He picked Duan Fei up and said with a sigh, "I’ve known many despicable fellows, but you are by far the most despicable of them all."

"The fruits of victory don’t turn sour just because the methods were despicable."

"That’s true. Alright, you can go now."

"What if we don’t want to go?"

"What do you mean?"

"Look around."

Titan looked around, confused, only to find himself surrounded by Slimes.

The newly arrived Slimes hadn’t fought Titan. Now, they were all staring at the brawny leader, drooling with hunger.

"Titan, can I have a fight with you? A duel to determine victory and defeat, life and death."

"My goal is to fight every single expert in this game. Titan, you must grant me this wish."

"Look at those solid muscles! How fantastical! Come on, darling!"

Anyone who had reached the eighteenth floor by this point was among the best of the best players.

Most of these guys were battle junkies, their lust for a fight no less than Titan’s.

They had been held back by Duan Fei before and didn’t dare show their true colors. But now that the passage had appeared and the prohibition was lifted, they no longer had to pretend to be gentlemen. One by one, they jumped forward, issuing challenges to Titan.

Looking at these eager delicacies, Titan’s mouth began to water.

He stood up excitedly and said to the others, "Alright, come on!"

A great battle was about to erupt.

A dozen or so Slimes attacked Titan simultaneously, rushing forward only to die just as quickly.

After they revived and returned, they would assess their gains and losses from the previous attempt, then charge forward once more to battle Titan.

Seizing the opportunity, Duan Fei called over to Eight Desolates, Cuihua, and Shadow God, who were all watching with envy. He had Darts Guest stand guard while he pulled Jinghong along with him, leaping toward the mural and heading for the next floor.

Walking along the path on the mural, Duan Fei found that he had unknowingly arrived in a strange place.

He had been holding Jinghong’s hand when he entered, but sometime after, their hands had let go, leaving him all alone.

"Jinghong! Cuihua! Shadow God! Eight Desolates!"

Duan Fei shouted, but no one answered.

With no other choice, he could only continue along the path.

He was surrounded by Mist. Visibility was moderate, allowing him to see only about a dozen meters ahead.

Everything was quiet. There was no clamor, only the crisp chirping of insects and the gentle gurgle of flowing water.

The path he was on was paved with cobblestones, flanked by dewy weeds. The whole scene felt both strange and familiar. It seemed to stir some deep-seated memory, plunging him involuntarily into a wave of nostalgia mixed with melancholy.

He didn’t know how long he had been walking when he finally saw something different.

Countless gold coins were piled up on both sides of the road. The round, cute things looked like golden wheat, stretching far into the distance.

Duan Fei, however, didn’t spare them a single glance and continued forward.

As if sensing Duan Fei’s lack of interest in the gold coins, they soon vanished, replaced by something even more alluring.
