Wu Yanning was certainly not a person of low intelligence.

She was very smart, having been the daughter-in-law of the Ling Family for so many years and having experienced many things, her mind was very flexible.

She was well aware that Ling Mingrui, as a father, did not take an obvious side in the struggle between his son and daughter. But she knew clearly that Ling Mingrui was more partial to his daughter.

Ling Mingrui’s attitude towards his grandchildren was also far less favorable than towards his grandson, Luo Ziling.

This fact made many people uncomfortable, and Wu Yanning felt the same.

But she knew where the reason lay.

She even understood the extent of the rift between Ling Zhengping and Ling Mingrui.

Today, when Ling Zhengping left in a huff, Ling Mingrui smashed a cup as he walked away, clearly showing the width of the rift between father and son.

Wu Yanning could not possibly leave with Ling Zhengping. She felt that if she did, she would not only fail to get recognition from Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua, she would not reap any benefits in front of Ling Zhengping either.

So she stayed behind, and after speaking some words, she cleaned up the broken cup and mopped the floor.

Ling Mingrui’s subsequent words confirmed her worries.

Ling Mingrui was clearly expressing his dissatisfaction with Ling Zhengping, and her staying made him slightly satisfied.

If she had just left with Ling Zhengping, she likely wouldn’t have had another opportunity to gain Ling Mingrui’s approval. So she cautiously said, “Dad, Mom, I’ll come over and keep you company more often. I can cook fairly well, so I’ll help with the cooking whenever I’m free!”

“No need for cooking,” Xie Enhua shook her head, “Just come by often is all, we are both old now and always wish to see you youngsters around. Ruonan visits frequently, but Zhengping won’t come around, not even once in ten or fifteen days, and this is the state of things even when we call him. It’s just outrageous!”

Xie Enhua was also upset about Ling Zhengping being impulsive today. She had called them over for a meal, yet while she was in the kitchen helping, an argument broke out with Ling Ruonan.

Xie Enhua knew that Ling Ruonan had been in a bad mood recently. During her trip to the Northwest, so many things had happened.

Luo Ziling almost died, and as a mother, Ling Ruonan was understandably angry, anxious, and eager for revenge.

Regardless of Ling Zhengping’s involvement, he should not be arguing with Ling Ruonan at a time like this.

He should not be acting rashly with Ling Mingrui either.

Although dinner was sumptuous, the people at the table did not enjoy themselves.

After dinner, Wu Yanning did not leave immediately. Instead, she helped Xie Enhua clear the dishes and then went to the kitchen to wash up.

Ling Ruonan was called into the study by Ling Mingrui to discuss matters.

“Is there evidence proving Zhengping’s involvement in these matters?” In the study, Ling Mingrui directly asked Ling Ruonan.

“No!” Ling Ruonan shook her head, “I don’t suspect Zhengping’s involvement in this matter. I simply informed him that today’s visit was to exchange opinions with you about these issues, and I told him that with the Chen Family’s blatant actions this time, I will not let it go. Unexpectedly, he became angry. My saying this made him mad, and I slightly suspect his involvement in this affair. But, it is just suspicion; nothing found thus far supports this. This incident appears to be instigated by the Chen Family.”

“Perhaps, he truly mingled in these affairs.” Ling Mingrui sighed deeply, “During this period, he has had clandestine contact with Chen Yijing.”

Ling Ruonan’s expression subtly changed, but she did not ask anything and simply lowered her head.

“He relies on your grandfather’s favor and often acts impulsively,” Ling Mingrui gestured for Ling Ruonan to sit down, he himself also sat down, and spoke in a helpless tone, “Your grandfather’s attitude should change, he has seen that Zhengping’s actions have indeed been reckless. Meanwhile, the things Ziling has been doing receive his praise.”

“Dad, no matter what, he and I are siblings, and at any time I do not want to see any incident of sibling rivalry occurring,” Ling Ruonan firmly stated, “Even if he had plotted several times to assassinate Ziling, as long as he does not do it again, I am willing to let it go.”

Implication being, if Ling Zhengping repeats similar actions, she will surely take account, and previous accounts will be tallied together.

Ling Mingrui was silent for a while, not commenting on Ling Ruonan’s statement, but asked if there was anything else she wished to say.

Ling Ruonan briefly described the matters of Chen Yiping finding him today, then asked, “Dad, since Wu Dongfang is personally overseeing this, does that mean Chen Yining and Chen Yijing are in for trouble?”

“Barring unforeseen events, likely so!” Ling Mingrui, without hiding from Ling Ruonan, whispered quietly, “We’ll have to see how Chen Ruchang reacts.”

“Hope they meet terrible ends!” Ling Ruonan’s eyes shot out hateful rays, “I truly can’t fathom why when Ling’er returns, they harbor such resentment for him!”

“Your son’s return should be most intolerable to the Yang Family. Yang Yunlin planned many operations, but they all fell through. Later, seeing this, the Chen Family joined in, unexpectedly escalating the conflict between Chen Jiahai and your son so high. Furthermore, Chen Jiahai is dead.” At this point, Ling Mingrui stopped, gave Ling Ruonan a peculiar look, and continued, “Of course, Chen Yining won’t swallow this with ease; after all, it is his son who died, and his daughter still entangled with your son.”

“Chen Jiahai brought it upon himself. Had he been more capable, Ziling would have long met his end at his hands. Such a person, should die early and reincarnate early!” Ling Ruonan remained resentful.

Ling Mingrui knew that discussing such matters with Ling Ruonan would only rile her up further, and wisely shifted the topic.

“What is their current situation? Are they in the mountains now?”

“In the morning, I asked on that side, and they were already finished scouting and went into the mountains. They hadn’t come down last night. The reports coming back indicate everything is safe and they’ve found quite a bit of precious herbs. Every summer, they go into the mountains to search for herbs for the purpose of concocting medicines.” After conveying this, Ling Ruonan asked Ling Mingrui, “Dad, what will happen next? What should I do?”

“If Chen Ruchang doesn’t have someone take the fall, both Chen Yining and Chen Yijing might be summoned again by Wu Dongfang and his men. If summoned again, they might not come out anytime soon!” Ling Mingrui said these words very calmly.

“Dad, do you mean the Chen Family is planning to sacrifice someone?”
