The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 186 - 185: A Repeatedly Chaotic Morning
Chapter 186: Chapter 185: A Repeatedly Chaotic Morning
——————————
’Again?’
Gu Su practically shot up from the stairs out of pure reflex, spinning around and bolting for the exit.
His heart rate quickened slightly, not from nervousness, but from excitement. Although the previous few rounds of battle had been difficult, every time he tallied up the results afterward, the gains far outweighed the losses.
Bone Dogs died in droves, but the new ones he summoned were stronger. He had used up a lot of supplies, but he had plundered even more back. Even the Graveyard Demon itself was constantly growing with each devouring.
Right now, he was practically bursting with confidence.
He even started calculating in his head as he ran.
’What kind of Lizardman will it be this time?’
’Will they be cannon fodder like the last wave, or will they have proper equipment like the first?’
’Whatever kind they are, I have a way to deal with them.’
’I’ll use Corpse Explosion and the Soul Summoning Technique to clear the cannon fodder. If they’re Elites, I’ll have the Death Knight lead a frontal assault. Plus, with the newly activated Talent for the gunner squad, this will be a perfect chance to test their combat effectiveness.’
As he thought about it, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curl upwards.
But the moment he burst out of the basement and looked up at the sky, all his anticipation froze on his face.
In the sky, white meteors were streaking across.
Not gold, not green, but a pure, cold white.
The points of light trailed long tails behind them, like falling stars, densely dotting the entire sky.
Gu Su squinted, trying to discern their landing points. Then, he froze.
Not a single one of those meteors was heading his way.
The closest trajectories were landing at least two defense sectors away.
All he could see were flashes of white light exploding on the distant horizon. The dull sounds of the blasts reached his ears a dozen seconds later.
BOOM—BOOM—BOOM— Each one felt like a hammer blow to his heart.
Gu Su stood rooted to the spot, his head tilted back, watching helplessly as the meteors vanished one by one over the distant horizon.
His first instinct was to rush over and see what was happening.
But in the next second, he came to his senses.
’I can’t go.’
First of all, he had his own defense line to hold. The players for Sector 71 hadn’t been replaced yet, so he was still nominally responsible for that stretch of the line.
’What if enemies sneak over from somewhere else while I’m gone?’
Although Lu Chen had said that this wave of cannon fodder Lizardmen was a special case, no one could guarantee it wouldn’t happen a second time.
Secondly, even if he wanted to go, he couldn’t.
The Graveyard Demon’s movement speed was three kilometers per hour.
’What does that even mean in practice?’
It would take an hour just to cross from one end of Sector 72 to the other. If he included the length of Sector 71, a round trip would take up half the day.
As for rushing to someone else’s defense sector to snatch loot, he didn’t even dare to think about it. By the time he lumbered over, everything would be picked clean.
Gu Su stood there, watching the fires that were still erupting in the distance, an indescribable feeling in his heart.
Envy? Definitely.
Disappointment? That too.
But more than anything, it was a profound sense of frustration. An opportunity was right there, yet he could only watch others feast while he couldn’t even get a sip of the soup.
He raised his hand, grasping at the empty air, then slowly lowered it.
’Forget it.’
’Can’t fight fate.’
He turned and trudged toward his living quarters.
His steps were much slower than before. It was as if something had been drained from him, leaving him completely listless.
Just as he reached the door to his quarters, Gu Su saw that a well-prepared breakfast was already set out for him.
Ever since he had acquired the Dark Erosion Cave, Gu Su no longer had to worry about food.
Even the Undead had their food supply supplemented. Pure Yang Chicken Blood was a food specifically reserved for them, as absorbing Yang Qi and vital energy was an instinct for the Undead.
As for the tender chicken and fresh mushrooms, besides being sold, Gu Su could also eat them himself. Just like this morning, freshly prepared ingredients had already been delivered.
Right now, there was a whole broiler chicken and about a kilogram of mushrooms.
The mushrooms were iridescent and looked incredibly fresh.
He bent down, picked up the chicken and mushrooms from the doorway, and walked straight into his quarters. He went to the small kitchen in the corner, grabbed a knife, and cut the chicken into evenly sized chunks. He also sliced the mushrooms into thin pieces and tossed everything into a pre-washed iron pot.
As for the water for the soup, there was a reserve next to the Dew Grass outside. The process of filling jars had long since been automated. Although he had to walk a few extra steps to get it, the operation was very convenient. In no time, Gu Su returned with a full jar of fresh water and slowly poured it into the pot.
Gu Su hefted the pot, judging its weight.
’It’s enough for a large pot of soup. If I eat sparingly, it can last for a day.’
Gu Su leaned against the counter, staring blankly at the pot lid.
The water in the pot gradually came to a boil, and steam, carrying the aroma of food, escaped from the edge of the lid. He reached out, lifted the lid, stirred the contents with a spoon, and then put it back on.
Then he walked over to the bed and plopped down.
He had been busy ever since being woken up in the middle of last night. First, he fought several tough battles against the Lizardmen, then he tallied his losses, replenished his forces, activated a Talent, and constructed new buildings... he hadn’t stopped for a moment. He hadn’t felt tired then, but now that he had a moment of rest, exhaustion washed over him like a tide.
He leaned against the headboard, his eyelids growing heavy.
The pot was still bubbling away.
The aroma of the chicken and mushroom stew grew stronger.
But he could no longer keep his eyes open.
Just then, the Communication Puppet called out again.
"My lord, the enemy is attacking again."
Gu Su roused himself and ran out of his quarters.
The sky was still filled with the same kind of white meteors.
’It seems this is the effect of the second attack wave.’
But Gu Su noticed something: this wave of meteors still had nothing to do with him.
This time, the meteors didn’t even land near his defense line; they flew toward an even more distant location.
Gu Su looked up, watching the meteors from their appearance to their disappearance, and even felt the urge to take a picture to commemorate the moment.
’As a memento of my not-so-great Luck today.’
But just then, from the other end of his defense line, there was a sudden BOOM.
Gu Su looked over curiously.
He saw that over in Sector 73, something seemed to be charging wildly.
’What’s going on? Could it be that the player in Sector 73 was taken out?’
Before Gu Su could react, Alice’s voice came through the Communication Puppet.
"My lord, quickly grant the pilots command authority! Have them follow my orders to prepare for evasive maneuvers!"
Hearing this, Gu Su immediately knew something was wrong.
He decisively rushed into the cockpit.
"Did you hear Alice? Move as she directs, now!"
After switching over the command authority, Gu Su ran to the top of the ramparts to get a look at the situation in Sector 73.
Gu Su then saw a gigantic lizard charging toward him, carrying a Mobile City that had been broken in two on its back.
