After leaving the basement, Gu Su didn’t linger. He quickly climbed the stairs along the wall and returned to the top.
From this high vantage point, his view was exceptionally clear. He gripped the wall’s railing, his sharp gaze sweeping across the empty, desolate battlefield as he fell deep in thought.
’From which direction will the enemy appear?’
’What kind of enemies will they be?’
’And how strong will they be?’
As he calmed down, Gu Su had to admit that he had been a bit hasty this time.
He had charged into this unknown battlefield with his troops, knowing nothing of the terrain or the enemy, serving as cannon fodder. It was, admittedly, a bit rash.
But on second thought, his brow relaxed.
Risk and opportunity often go hand in hand. This seemingly reckless decision could very well prove to be a rare chance.
At the very least, he had already secured the initial Deployment Fee. If he could handle the enemy, he stood to gain all sorts of bountiful spoils. Other players probably wouldn’t have been so lucky, even if they’d vied for the same chance.
Just as Gu Su was lost in thought, weighing the pros and cons of his situation, a faint gust of wind brushed past overhead.
He looked up to see Crow’s Caw swooping down. It landed steadily beside him with a sense of urgency, its body still covered in dust from the battlefield.
"Sir, we’ve discovered an abandoned fortress near the battlefield."
"Where?"
The news immediately lifted Gu Su’s spirits. He straightened up, a look of pleasant surprise replacing the grim expression on his face.
He never would have thought he’d find such a windfall so soon after arriving on the battlefield.
After all, Lü You had told him that anything within his defensive perimeter was his for the taking.
"About five thousand meters ahead." Crow’s Caw raised a hand, pointing precisely toward the front of the battlefield.
Gu Su looked where Crow’s Caw was pointing. In the distance, he could only make out the blurry silhouette of ruins, with no sign of a fortress. Still, he didn’t hesitate for a moment and commanded, "Five Ghosts!"
At Gu Su’s command, a dense Black Fog suddenly billowed across the top of the wall. As the fog churned, a Five Ghosts Spiritual Off-Roader slowly materialized, emanating a faint, Undead Yin Qi.
With an agile leap, Gu Su vaulted into the off-roader.
This Spiritual Off-Roader, having undergone Spirit Communication, had long since transcended the limitations of an ordinary vehicle. Instead of driving sedately through the Graveyard Demon’s main gate, it charged straight for the edge of the wall. The vehicle soared into the air, tracing a smooth arc before landing securely on the battlefield below. It touched down with only a soft thud, completely free of any jarring impact.
The off-roader’s engine immediately roared to life. Like an arrow loosed from a bow, it shot forward, following close behind Crow’s Caw as they sped toward the abandoned fortress.
The Spiritual Off-Roader was incredibly fast, far surpassing the limits of a normal vehicle. A distance of five thousand meters was nothing to it.
In just three minutes, the off-roader came to a smooth stop amidst a field of ruins, parking precisely on a relatively flat patch of open ground.
The moment the vehicle stopped, the five Elite Skeleton Warriors aboard tightened their grips on their weapons and leaped out. With synchronized, uniform movements, they quickly formed a circular defensive perimeter around Gu Su, shielding him securely in the center. They vigilantly scanned their surroundings, guarding against any potential threats.
Now that he was here, Gu Su finally understood why the abandoned fortress had remained intact—and undiscovered—despite the battlefield having been cleared out several times.
It wasn’t an ordinary surface fortress at all, but a bunker buried deep underground.
The bunker’s design was incredibly discreet, with only a small portion of its entrance exposed, hidden amidst layers of rubble.
It looked completely unremarkable, but with a single machine gun mounted at the entrance, one could easily control the entire surrounding block. It was a textbook example of a position that was easy to defend and difficult to assault. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
The bunker’s walls were made of thick, poured concrete and were incredibly hard. It was doubtful that even a high-yield bomb could breach them.
Gu Su was secretly thankful. If the original owners of this battlefield hadn’t been completely wiped out, leaving no guards behind, his current forces would have had a hard time even getting close, let alone discovering the hidden bunker.
"Go on down and take a look," Gu Su said, tilting his chin toward the Elite Skeleton Warriors.
But the moment Gu Su gave the order, before the Elite Skeleton Warriors could even move, several Bone Dogs suddenly darted out of the bunker’s entrance.
Seeing the Bone Dogs’ reaction, Gu Su instantly relaxed. He knew that Bone Dogs were extremely vigilant; if there were any danger inside the bunker, they certainly wouldn’t be acting this way.
Their behavior meant one thing: the bunker was safe.
So, Gu Su drew the Plague Cutter from his waist and followed the five Elite Skeleton Warriors, cautiously entering the abandoned underground bunker to investigate.
Once inside, Gu Su discovered the bunker was far larger than he had imagined, with its internal structure still intact and its layout well-organized.
It contained not only a supply warehouse and an armory, but also living quarters, a command center, a maintenance bay, a generator room, and even a small mess hall. It seemed to have every functional area required for a military operation.
Though time and scavenging had taken their toll, and most valuables had been carried away, a few scattered items still remained in the corners. It hadn’t been completely picked clean.
As Gu Su moved through the tunnels, he kept a close eye on his surroundings. Before long, he spotted a yellowed map on one of the walls, which clearly detailed a section of the battlefield.
Examining the map closely, Gu Su discovered that in addition to this bunker, four more underground bunkers of a similar size were hidden in the nearby ruins. They were evenly distributed around the battlefield’s periphery, clearly part of a unified defensive network.
However, it wasn’t the four hidden bunkers that truly made Gu Su stop and take notice.
It was something on the edge of the map that looked like a small conduit.
It was a conduit for wiring.
But there was no telling where it led.
Gu Su beckoned, and Crow’s Caw landed beside him.
"Can Drilling Mountain drill into this and see what’s behind the conduit?"
