The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 149 - 148: Troops in Position
Chapter 149: Chapter 148: Troops in Position
As the Graveyard Demon slowly ground to a halt, the invisible pulling force dissipated along with it. Gu Su quickly looked up and finally got a clear view of the entire battlefield before him. A grim feeling surfaced in his heart.
The battlefield before Gu Su wasn’t absurdly large in terms of area, but for him in his current state, it was already quite vast.
It spanned a full eight thousand meters from front to back, and its width reached an even greater ten kilometers.
This scale was roughly equivalent to more than ten thousand football fields stitched together. In real-world terms, it was about the size of a medium-sized county’s urban area, or one and a half times the size of the Beijing Capital International Airport.
An area of this size was already a significant challenge for Gu Su, whose forces were limited and whose Watchtower’s Level wasn’t high enough.
At his Watchtower’s current Level, it was impossible to cover the entire battlefield, making comprehensive surveillance impossible.
Not to mention, the number of Undead in his command was small to begin with. One could only imagine the difficulty of defending such a vast battlefield.
The entire battlefield was saturated with the thick, desolate air of an apocalypse. As far as the eye could see, the ground was littered with the remains of shattered and collapsed houses. Between the broken walls and ruins were scattered vast quantities of weathered bone fragments that had turned to dust. When the wind blew, the fine Bone Powder drifted with it, carrying a bone-chilling silence.
It was clear that this battlefield had once teemed with life. Its original masters had most likely been annihilated by someone’s hand, with every last trace deliberately erased. All that remained was this barren ruin, awaiting the next slaughter.
Gazing at the empty and dangerous battlefield, Gu Su’s brow furrowed. He stood atop the Graveyard Demon, lost in thought for a moment, and soon came to a decision.
He raised a hand and controlled the Graveyard Demon, slowly moving it forward some distance. He finally stopped it in the rear half of the battlefield’s central area.
This position allowed him to occupy the core of the battlefield while also leaving himself enough of a defensive buffer. It was ideal for both advancing and retreating.
After coming to a stop, Gu Su wanted to make the Graveyard Demon strafe sideways to adjust its bearing. He planned to aim the Graveyard Magic Wall on its left flank precisely toward the enemy’s most likely direction of approach. This would prepare his frontal defenses, ensuring he could immediately use the wall to defend the moment an attack came.
But the problem was, without a cockpit, Gu Su could only control the Graveyard Demon to move straight forward, backward, left, or right. He couldn’t turn it freely like a vehicle.
He couldn’t even make it turn around.
Gu Su hadn’t thought much of it before. ’It seems this is the Graveyard Demon’s biggest problem right now.’
Having temporarily adjusted the Graveyard Demon’s position, Gu Su turned around and said to the Undead Bosses waiting behind him, "Crow’s Caw, Odd-Eyes, send out your subordinates.
I need to know everything about this area. Not a single anomaly in any corner can be missed.
Alice, you’re in charge of finding a suitable route for the Graveyard Demon to move. I don’t want it getting stuck on the terrain, unable to adjust its position flexibly."
Upon receiving Gu Su’s orders, Crow’s Caw and Odd-Eyes didn’t hesitate for a second. They immediately bowed in acceptance and swiftly turned around. Leading their respective subordinates, they shot out of the Graveyard Demon like lightning, scattering to every corner of the battlefield to scout the area and identify potential threats.
Meanwhile, on the stone pillars flanking the Decaying Throne where Alice sat, two clusters of eerie green light suddenly flared to life. The lights emitted a faint glow, illuminating the area around the throne. More importantly, they expanded Alice’s field of vision, allowing her to clearly see the distant terrain and any movement, which would help her quickly map out suitable routes for the Graveyard Demon.
At the same time, the three Magic Skeleton Squads—Red Ice, Flame Bone, and Acid Wind—had already marched in an orderly fashion onto the ramparts of the Graveyard Magic Wall, taking up their respective positions.
As Gu Su’s only Magic Skeleton units, and with him lacking sufficient firearms or other ranged combat troops, they were undoubtedly the only long-range force he could rely on.
With a battle imminent and the enemy liable to attack at any moment, it was only natural for them to ascend the wall, occupy advantageous positions, and prepare for long-range support and defense.
As for Gu Su, he didn’t remain on top of the wall to observe the battlefield. Instead, he turned and hurried toward the Graveyard Demon’s basement.
He was in no mood to check on the Dark Erosion Cave right now; he went straight to the four Corpse Witches stationed in the basement.
Walking into the Corpse Witches’ research area, Gu Su stopped. His gaze swept over the four of them as he got straight to the point. "How much poison have you developed over the past few days?"
Hearing Gu Su’s question, the four Corpse Witches looked at each other, their faces a mixture of helplessness and speechlessness.
They were just ordinary Corpse Witches, not all-powerful Immortals. In just a few short days, it was impossible for them to have developed much of anything.
Not to mention their current research conditions were extremely crude. They had no equipment and no materials; it was already a struggle just to maintain their basic research.
Resigned, one of the Corpse Witches stepped forward, bowed respectfully to Gu Su, and said, "My lord, please just tell us what you specifically need. We will immediately halt our other research and prioritize completing what you require. We will not cause any delays."
Gu Su blinked. Looking at the helpless Corpse Witches, he realized his question had been a bit too hasty. He softened his tone and said clearly, word by word, "I need Poison Gas Bombs. Poison Gas Bombs that can spread over a wide area and stop a large enemy charge. The more, the better."
Gu Su’s reasoning was actually quite simple. He knew very well that he had a limited number of Undead, while the battlefield was enormous. Relying solely on Undead Soldiers for a frontal defense would make it difficult to withstand a massive enemy assault.
Therefore, he urgently needed a tool that could control enemies over a wide area. Poison Gas Bombs were undoubtedly the most suitable choice. They could effectively halt an enemy charge, reduce his own casualties, and help him expand his defensive perimeter.
As long as he could block the first wave, Gu Su would slowly gain the upper hand in the rest of the battle.
That was why the first wave was the most critical part.
Gu Su had to consider everything.
The Corpse Witches thought for a moment, conferred with each other, and finally said to Gu Su.
"My lord, would it be better if we released a poisonous smoke?"
Gu Su fell silent for a moment. "Won’t it just be blown away by the wind?"
"My lord, you must have faith in our abilities."
The Corpse Witch said with a look of certainty.
Hearing this, Gu Su was finally reassured.
"Alright. In five hours, bring the finished product up to me. I’ll arrange the rest!"
