"An invitation? Who are they trying to fool!"
Old Zhou and his group had barely gone far, their silhouettes not yet fully vanished around a bend in Ghost Valley, when the calm expression on Gu Su’s face evaporated. Full of disdain and certainty, he scoffed under his breath.
’He knew it in his gut. Old Zhou’s so-called invitation to explore was just a front. It was obvious this group had him in their sights.’
’The calculating, scrutinizing looks in their eyes and the tone of their voices couldn’t fool him. After all, he’d been out in the real world for years.’
But one question quickly surfaced in his mind.
’How exactly did they target me?’
’Was it because I was too conspicuous when I bought all those supplies in bulk at Zhi Xiang’s shop? Did they see me then?’
’Or was it because my Graveyard Demon is still small, making me look like an easy target they could push around?’
Gu Su frowned, pondering for a moment. He couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason, but he knew one thing for sure: he couldn’t afford to be careless.
Old Zhou’s group was clearly hostile. The next time he entered the Game World, they would almost certainly attack. Trouble was unavoidable.
If this had happened yesterday, learning that other players were targeting him might have thrown Gu Su into a panic, leaving him unsure how to respond.
But today was different. While buying supplies at the Endless Ghost Wall, he had accidentally picked up a piece of information that could solve his current problem.
In three days, the Ring Moon would pass through a dangerous region known as the Void Valley.
The immense energy fluctuations from the Ring Moon would likely awaken powerful entities lurking in the valley’s depths, triggering a massive beast tide.
Because of this, the official authorities of the Ring Moon were currently in a frenzy, preparing to face the beast tide.
In addition to mobilizing its own defense forces and deploying them to critical points, the various districts of the Ring Moon were also recruiting "gap-fillers" from the City Lords of nearby Mobile Cities, Guilds, and unaffiliated players.
To put it bluntly, they were temporary reinforcements responsible for filling gaps in the defensive line during the beast tide, assisting the regular troops in fending it off.
This information was highly credible. It wasn’t just a rumor he’d heard on the street; Gu Su had gotten it directly from the military-affiliated player who sold him the second-hand Artillery.
At the same time, Gu Su had also learned something even more enticing.
Any player who volunteered to be a gap-filler and participate in the upcoming defensive battle against the beast tide could apply to the Ring Moon’s administrators to be reassigned to a different district, allowing them to leave their current area.
After all, the Endless Ghost Wall, where Gu Su was currently, was part of the DT-160 District. The Undead in this area were predominantly Ghost-types, which, while suitable for an Undead Mage, offered him no particular advantage.
Gu Su could just as easily choose the DT-104 District, where the Undead were primarily Skeletons, a perfect match for the main Attributes of his Undead Team.
Or there was the DT-501 District, a newer, more general Undead Area. It wasn’t highly developed, and no major player factions had established themselves there yet, making for a less competitive environment.
In fact, even before Old Zhou’s group had approached him, Gu Su had been debating whether he should relocate to find a more suitable area for his Graveyard Demon’s growth.
Now that Old Zhou had him in his sights, there was no longer any reason for Gu Su to hesitate.
Leaving would not only allow him to escape Old Zhou’s plotting but also give him the chance to use the beast tide to strengthen his Graveyard Demon.
"Crow’s Caw!"
No longer hesitating, Gu Su looked to the sky and shouted.
The words had barely left his lips when Crow’s Caw dove down from the clouds.
Gu Su turned, entered his tent, and grabbed a clean scrap of cloth, in which he wrapped 100 Gold Coins.
He then had someone bring over ten units of Pure Yang Chicken Blood and ten units of mushrooms.
These were the best things the Graveyard Demon could offer at the moment. They weren’t rare, but it was enough to express his sincerity.
Finally, he found a rough sheet of paper and a charcoal pencil and quickly penned a letter, explaining his request to change districts and participate in the defensive battle against the beast tide.
With all this prepared, Gu Su handed the bundle and the letter to Crow’s Caw. "Take these and find the administrator here in Ghost Valley."
"Tell him I’ve received an invitation from the DT-501 District and am preparing to head there to join the defensive battle. Ask him to help show the way and arrange the transfer."
"These are just a few local products. A small token of my respect. I hope he likes them."
Crow’s Caw didn’t ask any questions. It let out several sharp caws, summoning a few White Crows. They grabbed the bundle, while Crow’s Caw secured the letter to its own body. After giving Gu Su a nod, it led the other White Crows and flew hurriedly toward the depths of Ghost Valley.
After seeing Crow’s Caw off, Gu Su turned and walked toward the Yin Fire Heap.
Several idle Undead Bosses and Minions were still gathered by the Yin Fire Heap. They were lounging by the fire in twos and threes, absorbing the Yin Qi to nourish themselves, looking utterly relaxed.
Gu Su walked up to them and said crisply, "Everyone, get ready. We’re leaving soon."
Bone Forest and Bone Joint reacted first. The leisurely expressions on their faces vanished instantly as they bowed to accept the order. They then promptly turned and left with their Minions.
Immediately after, Healthy Body got his Walking Dead moving as well.
In just a few moments, the area around the once-bustling Yin Fire Heap had emptied out. Only Bone Ash and his Ash Squad remained, still busy at the supply pile, completely unfazed.
They were focused on sorting through the useful items they had salvaged from the junk, their expressions earnest and absorbed.
Gu Su stepped forward, his gaze falling on the object in Bone Ash’s hands. "Bone Ash, how’s the sorting going?
Find anything?"
Hearing Gu Su’s question, Bone Ash immediately stopped his work. A serious expression appeared on his face as he held up a rust-covered metal component, his voice filled with excitement:
"Lord, we might have a real find this time! Look at this. It’s a component from an engine. I’ve inspected it carefully, and based on the other parts we’ve found, I suspect there’s a complete, disassembled engine hidden in this junk pile..."
"An engine? Do you know what type of vehicle it’s from?"
"I’m not sure about that, but Tooth Bone should be able to fix it."
Bone Ash shook his head. He hadn’t found many parts yet, so all he could tell was that they belonged to an engine.
As for what model of engine it was, he couldn’t say for now.
If Gu Su hadn’t asked, he wouldn’t have brought up something he was so uncertain about.
"Besides this?
Anything else?"
"I also found a crushed laptop over here. Look, Lord, this is it. But it obviously won’t power on..."
