The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 134 - 133: Turret
Chapter 134: Chapter 133: Turret
"Tooth Bone, come here for a moment."
Walking to the left side of the wall, Gu Su called out loudly.
An activated room was located there, long since converted by Tooth Bone and his squad into a simple but orderly repair station.
This wasn’t just Tooth Bone’s daily workshop. The corners and shelves were neatly stacked with all sorts of repair tools: wrenches, Iron Hammers, rusted Metal parts, and grinding wheels. The air faintly smelled of rust and oil, carrying a busy and pragmatic air.
Hearing Gu Su’s call, Tooth Bone immediately stopped what he was doing, wiped the grease from his hands, and hurried out of the repair station. He bowed and asked, "My Lord, you were looking for me?"
Looking at the respectfully waiting Tooth Bone, Gu Su skipped the pleasantries. He reached into the Treasure Chest Wagon and tipped out the last few items. "Take a look at these and see if you can fix them."
What tumbled out were several mottled, White Quality Artillery pieces.
These Artillery pieces varied in size and length.
Although they were far from being as powerful or convenient as the Oil Sprayers already installed on the Graveyard Magic Wall, they were undeniably the most standard and basic city Defense weapons in the Game World.
Gu Su knew perfectly well that if these Artillery pieces hadn’t been merely White Quality—and heavily damaged, second-hand goods at that, resulting in a steep discount—he wouldn’t have been able to afford so many at once with his current finances.
After all, in this resource-scarce Game World, even the most basic, undamaged White Quality Defense weapons were not cheap.
Tooth Bone’s gaze fell on the Artillery, and his Spirit was instantly roused. He bent over, leaning in for a closer look.
Most of the Artillery barrels were dented and warped. Their surfaces were covered in thick rust, and some spots even showed fine cracks. It was clear they had suffered significant wear and were severely damaged.
Tooth Bone extended a bony finger and tapped lightly on a cannon’s body. He then carefully inspected the bore and the mechanical structure, studying them in silence for a long time.
After a good while, Tooth Bone finally straightened up and reported respectfully to Gu Su, "My Lord, of these five Artillery pieces, two can be completely repaired and put into normal use."
"The remaining three, even if we manage to patch them up, will have many hidden issues. Their service life will be short, they’ll break down again before long, and they might even malfunction during use."
Hearing this, Gu Su gave a slight wave of his hand and said nonchalantly, "That’s fine. Just think of them as a temporary solution."
"You know how it is. Everything is expensive here. Green Quality items—whether they’re weapons, equipment, or materials—all start at ten thousand Gold Coins or more. The prices are just absurd."
"I don’t know what those sellers are thinking, charging such outrageous prices."
Although he couldn’t help but complain, Gu Su understood perfectly well. ’This is just how the market is in the Game World right now.’
For ordinary players like him, White Quality was already the highest grade of item they could get their hands on.
Once players got a Green Quality item, they would treasure it like a family heirloom, regardless of whether they could use it or not. They rarely put them up for sale. As a result, the market price for Green Quality goods became abnormally inflated, far beyond what he could currently afford.
Thinking about his experience at Zhi Xiang’s place yesterday made Gu Su feel this even more deeply.
He had originally thought the prices for Green Quality items at Zhi Xiang’s were high enough. But it wasn’t until he got to the Endless Ghost Wall, a gathering place for ordinary players, that he truly understood there’s always a higher mountain to climb. The prices for Green items there were even more exaggerated than at Zhi Xiang’s.
At this point, Gu Su completely understood. ’Trying to buy Green Quality equipment and weapons is completely unrealistic. I’ll probably have to rely on myself, delving into game dungeons or wilderness maps to grind monsters for drops.’
Hearing Gu Su’s words, Tooth Bone had no objections. He nodded slightly and then waved toward the repair station.
Several Skeletons who were already on standby immediately walked out. In perfect unison, they stepped forward, swiftly lifted the Artillery pieces from the stone table, and headed toward the second floor of the wall.
Seeing this, Gu Su followed Tooth Bone and the Skeletons up to the second floor of the wall.
By now, all the rooms on the left and right sides of the wall’s second floor had been activated. There was no unnecessary clutter or extra structures; the entire second floor had been designated as gunnery emplacements and ammunition depots.
In addition, the previously planned watchtowers had now been built, also on the second floor. Each watchtower could station two Undead for semi-ranged and close-quarters Attack.
The Oil Sprayer Gu Su had acquired earlier was installed in the central gunnery emplacement on the right-side wall. It was a prime location, able to cover the largest possible area to the right of the Graveyard Demon and provide effective Defense.
This was quite logical. After all, this outer wall of the Graveyard Demon was built specifically to defend against external enemies and protect the stronghold. If it weren’t fitted with defensive weapons like Artillery, arrow towers, and defense towers, and lacked firing positions, the wall would lose its entire purpose.
After reaching the second floor, Tooth Bone immediately directed his Skeletons to carry the salvaged Artillery pieces one by one to their corresponding gunnery emplacements on the left-side wall and arrange them neatly.
Then, he led the Skeletons in methodically adjusting and repairing the pieces, taking into account the size and angle of each emplacement as well as the extent of the damage to each Artillery piece.
Some Skeletons were tasked with grinding the rust off the barrels, others with correcting the dented cannons, and still others were busy replacing damaged parts. The division of labor was clear and orderly.
Some Skeletons were even calculating the required caliber of cannonballs and gunpowder for these Artillery pieces—the truly crucial components.
’After all, these Artillery pieces can’t just automatically produce their own ammunition like the Oil Sprayers can they?’
’Without ammunition, this Artillery is just for decoration.’
Gu Su watched quietly from the side for a while. Seeing Tooth Bone and the Skeletons working so skillfully, he didn’t interrupt. ’Repair is Tooth Bone’s specialty,’ he thought. ’My interference would probably just cause trouble.’
Once he had a clear idea of the general repair process and their progress, Gu Su turned and left the emplacement area, heading toward the northern wall of the Graveyard Demon.
He had other things to check on and couldn’t stay there holding up Tooth Bone’s work.
Below the newly built Watchtower, Gu Su cleared out a room, preparing to build a control room there.
As for how to build this control room, Gu Su wasn’t sure yet.
But Gu Su believed that as long as he was willing to experiment, he could probably figure it out.
It was just like in the past when the Graveyard Demon had proposed so many quests or requirements; in the end, Gu Su hadn’t actually followed its demands.
Instead, it was often strange things that would stimulate the Graveyard Demon to undergo beneficial changes on its own.
